    I am as confident as I can be that the Twins won’t have 3 catchers on the 26-man roster on August 5th.

    Bell is anything but reliable. He regularly goes cold for a month at a time. Both players have huge variance in performance. This makes it nearly impossible to predict which would perform better over a two month sample from here until the end of the season.

    I would sell both if I got a stupid offer for each of them. I don’t think being slightly out of the playoff race should keep them from making a good baseball trade.

    I feel increasingly confident that the Twins will get an offer they can’t refuse for Jeffers. Demand is too high for catchers and supply is too low.

    Jenkins needs to stay in AAA and work on turning his raw power into home runs.

    I can’t predict if the Twins would be better off with Wallner or Bell as the DH for the rest of the season. Too much error bar.

    If they sell on Jeffers they need to redirect that cash to the pitching staff at a minimum. I think I would prefer a starter. They will get about 50 innings from a starter but only about 20 from a reliever. Gausman will pitch an inning or two deeper into a game than Rojas or Prielipp which will save 10 innings for the bullpen.

    That’s Kody Clemens with a better glove. Kreidler has a ton of plate appearances in AAA and his average at that level is .238.

    Some really lackluster outfield defense from the Athletics. I think they gave the Twins at least 4 extra bases. Prielipp looked great. Sands looked terrible. Everyone else did okay.

    Changing the subject slightly, is Sonny Gray pitching himself into the Hall of Fame? His stats don’t compare to past generations but they’re WAY better than most of his contemporaries. 36 WAR (8th among active pitchers), 2000 strikeouts, 137-104 record (5th in wins and 3rd among pitchers under age 40). CYA runner up and 3rd place finishes. He’s clearly better than any relief pitcher of his generation.

    I think every player is open to an extension if the number is high enough. The Twins should have had some discussions two years ago. If they didn’t, that is a huge mistake.

    If he wouldn’t turn down the QO then the Twins should ABSOLUTELY trade him. Get the prospects and offer him 1 year, $23M as a free agent to return for 2027. The qualifying offer only benefits the Twins if Jeffers turns it down.

    We are seeing parity like I can’t remember in baseball. The floor level of MLB talent is probably at an all-time peak. In an NFL analogy, we have the entire league between 4-6 and 6-4 with 6 games left to play. It is very hard to separate from the pack. The Twins are likely to win somewhere between 23 and 32 of their remaining 56 games. That makes them finish with 75 to 84 wins. Any trade deadline additions are only likely to sway that by 1-3 wins. That’s why it makes little sense to spend young talent to buy at the deadline. Selling Jeffers might cost them 1-2 wins in 2026 but could add them 5-10 wins over the next 5 seasons.

    Are you talking about the 2026 team? They look pretty evenly matched with the Athletics.

    Keep him in AA. The pitching might be better at that level than it is in AAA.

    All the pitching prospects are on the roster (Abel, Rojas, Prielipp, Matthews, Morris).

    I am on record here saying the Twins should give him a big contract extension in the 2024-25 offseason. They blew that opportunity. Now they have three catchers on the roster and one of them needs to go. I want the Twins to win more than they lose. I want them to do that as soon as next season. The best way to accomplish that is to trade players with expiring contracts for future help.
