  1. Don't leave out that Polanco is currently on the injured list with a hamstring problem.
  2. The internet is great at providing people to second guess decisions after the results come in and then claim "they knew it would be like that all along"
  3. If they're willing to spend $22M on Max Kepler they can also afford to replace him in free agency. Kepler has no reason at all to accept a 2/$30 extension from the Twins when free agency is this close. I don't think this has anything to do with whether or not people like Max Kepler. It's predicting what this front office will do.
  4. If the Twins are still in 3rd place at the trade deadline it would be smart of them to move Kepler.
  5. I think the recent offseason with the Ohtani deal pushed the QO up above $22M. That's a lot for one year of Max Kepler. The Twins are going into another offseason of "uncertainty" with their television contract which leads me to conclude that we will have another offseason where they cry poor in November and spend a windfall on whatever leftovers they can find in February.
  6. Atlanta just lost Acuna for the season. Do they have much depth in the minors?
  7. Yes, Statcast has him in the 82nd percentile in fielding and 12th percentile for hitting. He can still field. That is a good reason to use him as a late innings pinch hitter against LH relievers and keep him in the game for defense.
  8. Best comment in this thread. I wish I could upvote more than once.
  9. Jeffers is a borderline All-Star. Miranda looks good now that the shoulder injury has healed. Kepler has taken a leap forward in production that nobody predicted 5 years ago. Willi Castro has performed much better for the Twins than he did for the Tigers.
  10. Every year this trade gets better. It might go down as one of the top 5 trades the Twins have ever made. They dealt a below average veteran DH with no future on the team for a top of the rotation starter. That's like the platonic ideal of a trade.
  11. I agree to some extent. There is a balance here. I'm sure Brooks Lee will eventually earn a promotion but it won't be because he went 3-4 in one game. He needs to show success (OPS > 900) for at least two months, probably longer, and even then he will probably need to wait for an injury to give him an opportunity. People want to find a savior in the minors but there's usually a good reason a player is still in the minors. It's kind of like people who think the backup QB will solve all the problems for a football team. Another thing that seems silly in this thread is the idea that every player who is struggling was "screwed up" by the Twins batting coaches who are completely incompetent and every player who is doing well is doing it completely on his own by actively ignoring his coaches. Total malarkey.
  12. I think you need to go down another layer to figure out what's happening. Chasing 3% more often is sample size noise. I have a feeling this is about pitch location. He has a hole down and in, knows it and doesn't like to swing at pitches down and in. Now the pitchers know that as well and he will need to adjust. Even the photo you have above shows him swinging late on a pitch down and in. To pull that pitch for power he needs to make contact in front of the plate.
  13. He's been bad against RHP, decent vs LHP. Miranda has been much better vs RHP and should be getting more starts at 1B when Lewis returns. Kirilloff could also get more starts.
  14. If they want to move Castro to the outfield then they have enough outfielders.
  15. The Twins already have to bump someone off the roster to add Royce Lewis. They're not going to bump someone else this week to add Keirsey.
  16. If Ryan finishes in the top 3 in the AL CYA voting the Twins get an extra draft pick.
  17. Last 7 days Keirsey .423/.429/.692 Martin .333/.516/.524 Holland .286/.444/.786 Wallner .095/.222/.095
  18. Bad teams are exactly the kinds of teams who play guys like Manuel Margot. They often need a placeholder to let them keep their prospects from gaining service time. The Rangers just acquired Robbie Grossman to fill in because their outfield depth is depleted. I don't think the Twins would get much beyond salary relief for Margot.
  19. You can't look at career stats for Margot, he's clearly not the same player. Looking just at the raw athletic skills on Statcast for 2024. Player Range, Arm Strength, Sprint Speed Castro 81st percentile, 89.1 mph, 27.9 ft/s Margot 17th percentile, 82.7 mph, 27.1 ft/s Looking at outfielder jump Castro 0.6 reaction, 0.8 burst, -0.2 route => 1.2 ft above average Margot 1.1 reaction -2 burst, 0.2 route => 0.6 feet below average Castro gets about 1.8 feet more jump on the ball, has a higher top speed and a better arm.
  20. If the Twins gave Castro a 3 year $15M contract extension he would be quite tradeable. Contracts have value beyond the context of your current roster.
  21. Manuel Margot seems to have the least value to the organization of any player on the roster. Willi Castro is a much better option as a RH bat in the outfield and a better fielder as well. Austin Martin and DaShawn Keirsey look like adequate depth in AAA. As bad as he's been so far there is at least one other team where Margot could provide value. The Rockies outfield has been bad with Jake Cave 2nd in WAR among outfielders. Their RH batting rookie outfielder Beck has a broken hand. That's a team where Margot can definitely contribute. Are there any others? The White Sox signed Tommy Pham and the Rangers just acquired Robbie Grossman or they might have had interest. Would someone else be willing to pick up the remaining $3M for Margot to see if they can get him back to his career average performance?
  22. This seems like a digression. Emmanuel Rodriguez was not part of the Jorge Polanco trade.
  23. Why is it that umpires always get tired of the batter not swinging? Why don't they ever get tired of the pitcher nibbling and refusing to throw strikes? It is an interesting psychology question.
  24. Miranda has the 4th highest OPS on the team. It would be rather dumb to send him to AAA. Adding Lewis means Miranda will play more at 1B and DH. If Miranda is the DH against lefties then Vazquez sits more often. I think everyone would be happy if Vazquez was sitting more often. I think this is going to be decided by where they want to play Willi Castro. They could put Castro in LF, move Kirilloff to 1B/DH and option Larnach or move Castro to 2B and option Julien. They could also make Castro the 4th outfielder and cut Margot since Castro has been beating up on LHP.
