  1. If they move Jax to the rotation things could get thin quickly. Duran could be inconsistent again. Alcala and Sands could have a sophomore slump. Stewart and Topa might not pitch at all. I'd say they're just as likely to have the bullpen crater as they are to be at the top of the league.
  2. You didn't mention Topa, who has the potential to be pretty good if he's healthy. He has had more major league success than Varland, for example.
  3. They should absolutely trade Chris Paddack to help the major league roster.
  4. Lots to like, he's made huge progress in a short time.
  5. League average was a 680 OPS. Winokur was 21st in OPS among batters with 128 plate appearances. Rayne Doncon was 8th with an .838 OPS. Detroit prospects Max Clark and Kevin McGonigle were standouts among the 19 year olds.
  6. They must think Adams will be worth using in the bullpen next season. If he's on the roster he'll get some innings. He didn't make the recent Twins Daily top 30 prospect list. I'm way more interested in what other teams are getting rid of than what the Twins left exposed. The Guardians let Connor Gillispie go and he's as interesting as Adams..
  7. Right. I see no evidence that the program as described above is helping to develop pitchers or keep them healthy. I do not believe that affiliated games are uniquely stressful or that protecting pitchers from seeing batters is helpful to their development. They're baseball players, not fighter pilots.
  8. Vazquez can actually play baseball at an MLB caliber level. He's overpaid but he's not useless like Dobnak. Dobnak has no value for anyone. Who wants a washed-up pitcher who can only help you lose ballgames? If you give the Rockies a little more than $3M to take him they might accept. To get anyone to take Dobnak you'll have to give them something they think is more valuable than $3M.
  9. I wouldn't worry about that. He's cheap enough that he usually gets picked up on waivers and the new team picks up the salary.
  10. Veteran innings eater in the bullpen. That is worth $1.5M.
  11. Not worse, just cheaper. Though actual Manny Margot is probably signing for league minimum this offseason.
  12. I would be shocked if Sasaki gave up tens of millions of dollars in endorsement money to sign with the Twins instead of the Yankees or Dodgers.
  13. This seems quite high for Winokur. He ranks 31 for Fangraphs and 16 for MLB.com. He is a toolbox but lots of questions about whether his bat will keep up as he moves up levels and also whether the Twins will be able to put him at a defensive position where he will find success. Travis Adams and Adrian Bohorquez should have made the top 30.
  14. I hadn't thought of that. How about Dobnak and $5M in international bonus money to the Dodgers for C Hunter Feduccia. The Dodgers get $5M to offer Sasaki and a $3M salary that doesn't count toward the luxury tax. The Twins get a backup C for negative $8M in 2025. Bonus - Ryan Jeffers gets to hit LHP again. This allows them to send Vazquez to the Cubs for a grade 40 prospect. $18M cleared from the 2025 budget.
  15. They can't trade him unless they acquire a young catcher to take his place. Saving $10M on Vazquez only to spend $7M of it on Danny Jansen is just moving deck chairs around.
  16. Apparently the Cardinals are also looking for RH outfield bat and one of their fans put together an article listing potential fits. Most of the players make money and therefore won't be a fit for the Twins but there were a few interesting cheap options at the end of the article. An .842 OPS vs LHP is not great for a player who spends that much time at Coors Field. Also, not the glove I would be looking for. Would be interesting as a minor league free agent but not someone I would like to put on the 40-man roster. Also, a reason why Kalai Rosario is unlikely to get selected in the Rule 5 draft when players like this are freely available. Interesting. I would have to lean on the scouts pretty heavily here. Sounds like a bargain basement Manny Margot to me.
  17. It's really just 3 spots. Every team carries two catchers and the second catcher is expected to play 40% of the games. Nobody has room to carry a position player they don't want to play.
  18. I expect Culpepper's development will not happen at an accelerated pace. Full season at High-A this year, Double-A next season. If he misses some time due to injury, he'll make his Twins debut in 2028 at age 25.
  19. If you add up these odds it puts the over/under at adding 4.5 players to the roster. I will take the under on that. They're not going to fill the roster with Double-A players when they have so many needs at the MLB level. With the exception of Raya, divide all those numbers by two (or more).
  20. I will go with just Raya. The Rule 5 draft is overhyped every year. Almost nobody gets picked and out of the players who get picked its mostly relief pitchers who are kept. Almost every team has their own marginal prospects like Rosario and Olivar. Additionally, many teams have someone who is out of options that they want to keep on the MLB roster. With the expanded playoffs almost everyone is trying to contend. There is no room on an MLB roster for a position player who can't play when you only have a 3-man bench. The Twins made their position player moves in September when they added Helman and Keirsey. Looking around the league the focus is on Boston, who has a full 40-man roster. They signed Michael Fulmer to a 2-year minor league contract last season while he rehabbed from ligament replacement surgery and now they don't even have room to add him to the roster. I wouldn't be surprised to see Boston make a couple trades today.
  21. I would rather keep Willi Castro at $6M than give Josh Bell $7M. Castro out-hit Bell both of the last two seasons and Castro can actually play infield. Josh Bell is a downgrade on Miranda at 1B. Your roster still needs an outfielder and a second baseman.
  22. I think the Twins should buy out Jeffers' arbitration years with a 3 year contract and 4th year option.
  23. Not just the Padres and Royals - every team in baseball besides Oakland. Oakland only gave him a shot because they didn't have any better options than what everyone thought Rooker was at that time. Absolutely nobody thought Rooker would have a season like the one he just had, including Oakland. If you want to feel smarter than everyone else, go ahead. If you really feel confident you should be putting some money on your predictions. Is TwinsDaily going to write a hundred articles mad at the Twins because they didn't add Adolis Garcia when he was available to any team in baseball? That's just as big of a miss but people (especially on this website) seem to focus much more on the players in the organization than the players outside of the organization. Loss aversion is real.
