Prielipp was rough in terms of control to start but quite dominant after the 1st inning. Roden on base 5 times with 4 walks.

My disbelief in Lee goes back to before he ever made it to the majors. He gets brought up for 3B because Lewis looks lost at the plate. I only bring up Lee in the context of Culpepper taking over short. Then, the least lost guy between Lewis and Lee gets 3B. Let's hope Amick is the minor league break out player of the year.

Best way to stream Milb

I went with MLB+. A reliable platform for $60/year. No point in spending too much time looking at alternatives. -
I don't think it will be a couple weeks. Culpepper will need to prove himself for a couple months but nobody thinks Lee is a SS long-term so I wouldn't think they would be all that reluctant to replace Lee with Culpepper if Culpepper shows well at AAA. He has more ceiling both offensively and defensively. Another potential scenario that could emerge is a competition for the starting 3B job between Lee and Lewis if Lewis does not get going with the bat. I think Lee's value will be the ability to back-up 3 INF positions as a switch hitter. That has value.

You might recall that I thought the twins and Mets matched up well this off-season. I think that was a great opportunity blown. A high ceiling / near ready middle infielder like Williams is just what we need. Who do you think they could have received as the 2nd piece? Reimer? Tong or Sproat would have been great but I doubt the Mets would have given up Williams and a 55 grade SP prospect.

Best way to stream Milb
Major League Ready replied to Major League Ready's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
That was the first thing I tried but when I went to subscriptions on the Milb site they did not have a Milb only option. However, you can get Milb games with a MLB+ subscription for $60/year. -
What is the best way to stream Milb for those of us who get Twin's broadcasts through DirecTV or similar providers.

The main guys (Jenkins / Rodriguez / Gonzalez and Roden will get plenty of time. They can rotate at DH so that they all get consistent ABs. I am hoping Gonzalez can stick at 1B. I would play him and Mendez there and see if they can develop at the position. That will get them consistent ABs, even if they are only good enough to play there occasionally at the MLB level, I was really pulling for Fedko but I kind of got off that band wagon this spring. He will still get plenty of times because he can replace any of these guys when they are out for injury or just a days rest. I am hoping the issue is further mitigated fairly early in the season because one of more of them get called up.

I understand where you are coming from. My perspective is probably different because the only player of these 5 I thought was a great prospect was Lewis. I never believed in Lee and got a lot of crap here for saying so. Defensive ability for Wallner and Larnach was always quite suspect and Martin was not an impressive prospect. Jenkins, Rodriguez, and Culpepper have multiple tools. They are much more complete players and therefore have a much higher ceiling IMO. Gonzalez is an average athlete at best but that hit tool could make him an impact player. Part of this is that I see this group much differently. The other part is that I see no chance with the current group so moving on at least provides an opportunity to reach a higher level.

I think there is a very good chance two of Jenkins / Rodriguez / Gonzalez / Roden will be better than Larnach and Martin. I would bet even money on Culpepper being better than Lee too.

Buxton, Keaschall and perhaps Bell / Wallner make the Twins better but the Saints will be better defensively and more exciting on the bases. I will watch the Saints because Jenkins / Culpepper / Rodriguez and Gonzalez are crucial to the Twins becoming a contender or even a serious playoff team. Matthews, Prielipp, Rojas, and Raya could also provide a big boost. Of course, prospect development is always key but we need it more than ever and I don't recall this many legit prospects being on the door-step in a long time.

I will be watching a lot more Saint's games until that "emerging core" makes it to Mpls. They will be a lot more exciting to watch.

One key difference is that two years ago there was a reasonable chance of contending or at least being a playoff team. This team is screaming for new blood with some athleticism. Also, many of us never believed in Brooks Lee. His numbers never suggested he would be an impact player. That debate resurfaced here often. Same with Martin and Farmer was always a bench player. Jenkins and Rodriguez are much better prospects than Lee and Martin and Gonzalez probably have a much better chance of being well above than Lee or Martin. Would Tampa / Cleveland or Milwaukee have kept Larnach? I really doubt it.

When last season ended, it was clear 2026 needed to be about transitions, That seemed to be the direction Falvey was headed until Tom Pohlad showed up. I think his ridiculous insistence that the Twins "need" to contend this year is the core problem. Why on earth do you keep Larnach when you have several players with more upside? They should have started the season with Buxton, Wallner, Martin, and Roden. Six weeks into the season they could start looking at Jenkins / Rodriguez, and Gonzalez to move if Martin or Roden were bad. They could have even added Outman and had 5 OFers for six weeks and switched him out for one of the above with no cost. The Larnach deal made this roster situation untenable.

I would have preferred they had just kept Fitzgerald.

If this is their plan, they are bad at being bad. They would have gotten more "youthful talent" and probably been worse had they sold off during the off-season instead of at the deadline. It makes absolutely no sense if that's the goal. However, Tom Pohlad does seem completely inept so you might be right. The tell-tale sign that this is not the case is that Pohlad hung onto Lopez. He could lowered the payroll another $20M had he dealt Lopez. I think he actually thinks this team can contend.
-
When Tom Pohlad took over, he made it quite clear he rejected the idea of rebuilding. He clearly stated that we had to be a contender this year. Never mind that we were rated in the bottom tier of the league and never mind he was unwilling to spend. We just have to. I mean it sounds like a ranting teenager. The Pohlad's were never the solution but making a 180 in the middle of a rebuild demonstrates a considerably higher level of incompetence.

I think a lot of people view a #3 in the context of a playoff team. A #3 SP looks different when viewed through that lens. The middle of the 3rd band among playoffs teams would be ranked 30th.

You're right. I did a poor job of articulating what I meant. I meant that in terms of secondary positions, Backing up CF would be more valuable than playing a corner OF position where we have very good prospects on the horizon. So, I guess I do know what you came to that conclusion. My bad.

I am not sure why you would come to that conclusion. He could play every day at 2B and in the event Buxton was out, he could cover CF. We have better back-up options at 2B than we do CF. In theory, this would eliminate the need to roster Outman.

The two that are listed at one position play a premium position (SS). Organizations are reluctant to move guys off SS. They give them every opportunity just like the Twins did with Lewis, Martin, and Lee. A very high percentage of guys listed as (SS) end up playing elsewhere. If you look at the scouting reports, McGonigle and LeVries, it's quite possible they get moved to a different position. I would think Keaschall's greatest value would be to back-up CF.
