Article: Twins Throw Curveball With Draft Strategy
Dman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah what Gordon is doing at his age in AA is very impressive. His power seems to be coming on as well. I think the Scouts might have to rethink this one. I think he is going to exceed initial projections. Time will tell. -
I agree with you. I really thought the new regime would go for fast moving pitching to try and help this current wave out. Instead they seemed to pick players with high end tools and projection. So while they did a nice job there is no real immediate help on the horizon with this draft. So with the results of this draft the only way to help the current window would be trades and there is no guarantee they get a deal that works for them or that they have the players to get what they need. I guess if all else fails then they wait for wave two to arrive. Then we should have some valuable players to trade like Kepler, Sano, Polcanco, Buxton maybe others. With younger options to fill in like Gordon, Palacios, Whitefield, etc. We should have money to keep some core talent while younger talent rises. Will be interesting to see how things play out, but I am starting to doubt they can turn things around soon enough to help the current team.

While I can't say I understand the plan there must be one as Falvey seemed stressed about making sure the whole draft was successful not just the first few rounds. They must be looking for and identified the type of players they think will be successful. While there might not be a ton of great names left every year it seems several teams draft High Schoolers in the later rounds like 30 and beyond but don't have the pool money to convince them to sign. Maybe they want more lottery picks like that. You could take Rooker as an example. They picked him at 38 but couldn't get him to sign. I don't know what the plan but there has to be one. If they got the first pick under slot and then the senior sign Rooker will be lucky to see half the money for his slot and the Canadian should be under slot too so there should be money to play with. What they end up doing with it is hard to say at least right now.

Dman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So is the long term plan here to switch the window for true contention? All these picks are young guys that need 3 to 4 years to develop. So I guess we trade some of the stars we have in the making while we wait for the pitching to arrive? Because you know we ain't buying pitching so we are likely going to have to trade for it and pitching is expensive.- 720 replies

If the Twins do get Carlson. They would likely need to come up with 1 to 1.5 Mil as he was slotted for somewhere between 15 to 20 to get picked. Hope they saved a lot on that first pick but then they would have two highly rated 1st round picks.- 720 replies

If they get him that would be a big get as they don't have him far from Baz in the rankings. I had heard Carlson might fall some as so,e scouts didn't trust his arm. We'll see.- 720 replies

So McKay loses 1.6 Mil or more depending on what he signs for. If it is true I wonder what the Twins offer was and if he regrets not taking it.- 720 replies

If they were going to go High School I would have gone with Gore. Either he wouldn't deal or there is something there they don't like. Never saw Lewis pick coming. Thought they would go McKay for sure.- 720 replies

Article: Twins Daily MLB Draft Review
Dman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins don't take McKay at number 1 it looks like he could fall to pick 4 or 5. My guess would be his side is more willing to deal (take less) at number 1 because he could be out 2 million or more if he falls to number 5 which it looks like he could. Also some scouts still think McKay might be the best player in this draft. If the Twins can save money to spend later on HS talent that falls or if they can make a deal for someone who wants to slide that would make sense. Also there is fallback if he doesn't make it as a pitcher he can hit. He has some interesting versatility as a pitcher in that he could be a late inning pinch hitter because he can hit home runs and has a good eye at the plate. I question just how good of a pitcher he can become in MLB mainly based on his velocity. If the Twins do like him they must be OK with what they have seen as from what I have read they see him as a pitcher.- 18 replies

Article: Twins MLB Draft Preview: MacKenzie Gore, LH SP
Dman replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Personally I like Gore for best potential over anyone else. There is risk there though and it might take him longer to get to MLB than Wright. Unless the Twins get a sweet heart deal I think they have to go with Mr. Wright. -

Is Pressly really this bad? Can't throw strikes can't get anyone out? -
Mad Max is back! I had totally given up on him as he has had some pretty brutal stats for the last year and a half. Hopefully he got rid of the hitch in his swing and can get back to smacking the ball around like he did when he first started in MILB.

I really like those young hitters for the Kernals. Imagine what that team would have been like AK on it? That would have been one tough lineup. Here's hoping some of those guys become MLB players.

Mike is right total sarcasm. I have been following Wells since last year when he started K'ing guys at a high rate. His trend seems to be that he K's more than one batter per inning so I thought I would comment on that. Your description of the night gives me context I didn't have so just makes what he did even more impressive than I realized.

Article: Kernels Hitting A Stride
Dman replied to Steven Buhr's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are some exciting 20 year old hitters on the Kernals and Tyler Wells being a K machine is something I'm not used to seeing. We lack young upside pitching in A ball so a little disappointing in that regard. Although Kranson is older his hit tool appears legit. I assume mid season will see more young arms for the Kernals? Still fun to follow this team especially the hitters right now. Here's hoping they all go far and make it.- 9 replies

Article: Five Years of Twins Daily - BYTO Edition
Dman replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was late to the blogs and forums and just found Twins Daily a few years back so that is all the history I have. When I found this site I was in heaven. So much good conversation and the moderation kept things from getting off track and out of hand. This is the site I come to more often than any other. So many other sites are just personal attack sites and two or three people can hijack a thread and make it pointless. That doesn't happen here. I really have enjoyed what you guys put together. For me it is the best site I visit bar none. I wish more sites could be like this. Keep up the great work!!! -
Article: Get To Know: Twins RHP Tyler Benninghoff
Dman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was surprised that Twins made the move to get him but I really liked that they got him. Hard to say if it will pay off or not but a good move for the 11th round for sure. Sure seems like he has the pitches hopefully he can refine them and make it to MLB. -
I like Greene for the pick. I like that he is really young and can be molded through the system. I think his upside is just too hard to ignore. Go big or go home. Time for this franchise to take chances for high potential players. With another high school pitcher we should have a nice class of guys coming up together at the same time. Hopefully he shows some good development next year and doesn't get hurt but this is the guy I like best by a wide margin right now.

Article: Pondering A Plan For Jorge Polanco
Dman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I question what kind of return we can get for Dozier. What teams can really afford to give up good pitching for a 2nd baseman? Granted Dozier's power has to be appealing to other teams it just seems like it will be hard to find a match.
