    I think the Twins might want to trade Austin and I wonder if they have some team or teams interested. They have Rooker and Wiel in AAA that are similar to Austin and they would be able to move them up and down because they have options. If Raley breaks out some they could even use him in that role. There is no shortage of guys similar to Austin in AA\AAA that give the Twins better roster flexibility. Personally I think he is gone.

    Yeah good point unless Rooker, Lewis or Kiriloff are great from the start we have to wait a year or two for them to develop as well. I just hope we can find or trade for some young front line pitching at some point. It feels like unless they find some super stars we are stuck in perpetual rebuild.

    Yep what are they gonna do give up on Rosario, Buxton or Kepler and Cave in the outfield? Give up on Sano or Polanco in the infield? Give up on Garver, Austudillo as catcher utility guys? It is too early to give up on those guys we have to hope they develop. Pitching wasn't as bad last year and we have Slegers, Romero, Gonsalves Littel, Thorpe,Mejia and Stewart waiting for chances. We can't keep them in AAA forever. The guys we have need to step up. I agree it seems like we have saying next year for the last four years or so and is getting old but at this point I feel resigned to the fact that we need more of a core before we start making moves. I am willing to give them another year to prove themselves. If guys don't improve then Lewis, Kiroloff, Rooker and maybe Gordon and Wade await their chance sooner rather than later.

    I am surprised. It feels like the FO is waiting for 2020 or at least depending on young guys being ready to step up next year instead of going with more vets. Although I can see Schoop as rebound candidate having him fro just one year kind of stinks and he isn't the type of player I was hoping they would get. I have to say I am a little disappointed. I guess the plan is that the young players we have are going to break out and we are going to try and sign them to long term contracts? Not sure why else they seem not eager to spend.

    When we traded for him it is his eye at the plate that caught my eye. Good plate discipline will take a player a long way. He does need to hit a bit better and if that power continues to show up he has a real shot at the bigs. As usual that is a lot of "ifs" but right now I feel good about this kid. Next year we will know a lot more about the player he will be.

    Molitor has had an amazing baseball career. All-Star, WS ring, WS MVP, silver slugger, and Manager of the year. I guess the only award he hasn't won is league MVP. I nejoyed watching him manage. He never had a ton of talent to work with so hard to say just how good a manager he could have been, but if I were him taking a lessor role might be better than being on the road all the time.

    I Really like how Wells attacks hitters. That no fear mentality seems likely to lead to success at higher levels. It is like he is daring hitters to try to hit his pitches. Really thought he pitched about as well as possible this year. If he can keep it up and I believe he will then he should get his big league opportunity next year. I thought Colina was solid but unspectacular last year. At the end of this year I felt he really turned his game up a notch. Hoping he can Mejia like in the near future. Always have been high on Brusdar but was hoping more younger pitchers would be making some noise. I still think pitching is a weakness in our system. Way to many number 5 starter types and not enough 2's and 3's potential. Still I like our system and am hopeful that if just a couple of these guys work we can be competitive down the road.

    I see your point but baseball is way, way different now than it was back then. Baseball is more about analytics and building super teams. Teams with outstanding shutdown bullpens. You aren't going to get those little teams that could anymore. Just like the all or nothing approach at the plate, it is an all or nothing approach to building the team. We need at least a handful of super stars to compete and we aren't really even close at this point.

    Pretty excited about Breek and Berroa. Both are very young and appear to have swing and miss stuff. Not sure what to think of Rijo just yet. He certainly knows how to pitch at a young age but does he have the stuff to make it further than AAAA that I don't know. It is a nice group of guys but small sample size and the numbers (stats) at these levels usually don't tell us that much about the player. Lot's of guys have stood out in short season ball only to fall back to earth in A or A+ ball. Right now all of these guys look good and I hope they all make it but likely only 1 or two will.

    Good to see Rortvedt hanging with the big boys. if he keeps improving with the bat we might actually have a good young catcher in our system for the first time in a long time.

    They could bring Gordon up as he needs to be added to the 40 next year anyway. Since he is having trouble at AAA it might not make sense though as he should conquer that level before moving to the next one. Wade on the other hand does not need to be added to the 40 man next year and I wonder if they might keep him in AAA all year. The Twins have Rosario, Buxton, Cave and Kepler already in the outfield taking 40 man spots. Depending on who else they feel they need to add to the 40 man they might not want Wade to take up a spot. I guess I would like to all the pitchers up to see what they have. I am not sure Reed, Bard or Anderson have the stuff to make it but it would be nice to get a good look before making 40 man and off-season decisions.

    I hope the Twins can find a way to trade him and get a decent lottery ticket in return.

    I doubt Stewaert has a great debut but I will give the FO credit for checking out if he can handle getting MLB hitters out. We need to know what he has before we give up on him. Personally I think Stewart is better off as reliever but I am glad the Twins are giving him a chance to prove he can be a starter. Go Kohl. I hope you do well in your first start at the MLB level.

    Rodney just wasn't going to be a part of the future for this team. While I did enjoy the FRE I just didn't see him being a fit for this team next year. I think this team needs better options. The return feels a bit underwhelming but considering the type of pitcher he is I guess this is about what he was worth. Would have been nice if they could have gotten some DSL or GCL lotto ticket as well but I guess Chalmers was it. I guess it is nice to get something for him. Thanks for the memories Rodney. Have fun being on a playoff team and entertaining the A's fans.

    Gonsalves should get the call. He has earned it. I don't know if he will get knocked around or not but now would be a good time to find out. Though he might be worthy I don't see the FO adding Rooker to the 40 man. They should, however, send him to AAA right away and if he does well there he could be called up early next season. I can see Zander is going to get aced out which is a bummer because he had a great season this year but if Rooker passes him there really is no place for him on the MLB club. Twins have some interesting 1B\OF position players at the higher levels right now. I wonder how that is going to shake out.

    HAdn't thought about that but if the FO moved them to AA this year yet then I would say the chances would be better for them to make it up to MLB in 2019. I still ultimately think the FO will wait until 2020 though. They will want to be sure they are ready and I think there is going to be a 40 man crunch in 2020 as well. So lots of things to think about before they let them move up to the big club. If they do well in AAA though they may force the FO to make those moves sooner. I'm just excited we have two players this good coming up with lots of good talent right behind them.

    I hope they start both Lewis and Kiriloff in AA next year. That way if they play well they can get some time in AAA before trying MLB. I think 2019 is a bit of a pipe dream for either player. They would have to be really ready because they would need to use a 40 man spot and start using options. It is not decision to take lightly but if they dominate there is an outside chance they debut. 2020 should be an exciting year. Lewis and Kiriloff will likely debut and we should have some young pitchers in Graterol, Duran, Balazovic close to MLB. Also Rortvedt, Javier, Badoo and Miranda should be close by 2021 with an outside chance that Severino and Celestine are ready then as well.

    There was always concern about Buxtons hit tool from the moment the Twins drafted him. I thought most scouts biggest fear was his bat might not be good enough. He changed the narrative on that issue by hitting well in Cedar Rapids and I think Fort Meyers as well. After that he plateaued and swung from awful to good to awful to his current status. At the MLB level it still looks like he is struggling with pitch recognition and contact. I know he has slumped when being injured so it certainly plays a part in his struggles but even when not injured he can really struggle in the box. Not sure what to think but hope, hope, hope he can figure it out. Right now as things stand I would rather see Cave out there than Buxton.

    First things first, congrats to Ray Smith! Wells impressed me tonight. He just moved up a level and didn't cave. In fact he didn't even give up a hit. I am excited that he might be a pretty good pitcher in the future. Graterol was impressive as well. Just 19 and starting to dominate high A that is pretty cool. Love what most of the new guys are doing in the system. Was happy to see Raley get a homer another hit and a walk. His OPS looks much better now. This system has so many fun guys to watch right now it's crazy. I think most all the Minor league teams are going to be fun to watch this year and next year as well. Hoping to see some elite pitching come through this system as we have several young pitchers with potential.

    Hope they keep Rooker moving. Would be nice if he got AAA at bats this year yet. Maybe he can be ready for the Twins next year.

    Rooker could be 24 at AA if he starts there next year. So not that much different in age in my mind, but yeah I get your point Wiel will be 26 next year so his prime years are coming. Hard to be much of a prospect when you should be in the majors. Still his numbers are good this year.

    I agree with your statement about Wiel. He hasn't hit double digit home runs yet this year and Rooker is at 20 and Raley 17. But he is right there with both of them when it comes to doubles. I hadn't looked at BABIP so you are right he will be due for some regression. But even with normalized BABIP his eye at the plate right now is better than the other two. One thing we know about the higher levels and that is that batters don't typically strike out less so he has an advantage there. The next level will probably tell the tale for all three of those guys as they will face a lot more junk\breaking balls in AAA. Hopefully Weil works just a bit more on muscling balls over the fence and then he should get his shot.
