    Since when does Sonny Gray swing a bat? if you’re having trouble scoring runs, isn’t it more important to suppress opponent runs? im not saying they shouldn’t trade Gray, I just don’t get this logic. Sonny Gray is a top 10 starting pitcher in MLB. I’m not sure how he could get it more together or earn more run support. If anything, the Twins should go to 6 starters for a while to give them a breather

    I never said Julien was the answer, only that Kepler is a problem. the Twins absolutely MUST get more hitting from the outfield, and Kepler (and Taylor) are the two most prominent holes in the lineup out there. Neither one of them should be starting regularly

    At 100 plate appearances by wRC+ Kepler Ranks 36th in the MLB. That means 5 teams have given 100 plate appearances to two Right Fielders that hit better than Max Kepler. by OPS he ranks 34 Batting average he ranks 46 Even after a monstrous couple weeks, Max Kepler isn’t an MLB starting Right Fielder, and I think that’s a problem.

    I’m with you on doubt Rocco is fired. They’d have to miss the post season, and even then, maybe third place in the division. I have no idea if Cruz can be a good manager or hitting coach. This is probably not the right time for the Twins to find out… unless Falvey or Levine get canned and they gut/rebuild. a scorched-earth rebuild might drive me away from the team. Yuck

    I love a good super utility guy as much as the next, and think he’s earned his spot over G-Cinco, but let’s not over-sell his fielding. He’s average in 6 positions. That has value, but he’s not an “elite fielder”

    Agreed, if they do trade off Gray, there’s no shot in the post season. The pitching is built for the season, not the post season.

    I’m with Chief, not worried about Gray’s comments. I’m listening on trade offers for Gray, but only accepting an absolutely silly overpay. He’s worth a ton to the Twins and I want to watch good baseball, not continuous rebuilds. the QO is a win-win for the Twins

    But then why measure barrels and hard hit rate? Pitching and hitting stats normalize at different rates, but there isn’t a FIH, just a FIP.

    I caught the Twins at Wrigley pre-renovation and it was just kinda old, but the charm of the rooftop bleachers was cool and the neighborhood around it is awesome! I caught a Brewers game there post-reno. The scoreboard was jarring

R-squared is statistical fit of the trend line. 0 is no correlation. 1 is perfect correlation. Of course the trend line is negative, but the R-squared is -.078. This in compared to OPS the R squared is positive .9 so if we look at the Twins Ks leading the league, it doesn’t tell us much about how well they score runs relative to the league. the Twins are 24th in the league in Runs scores they of course lead the league in K rate But they’re 22nd in OPS why? Because they’re 16th in walks and 20th in slugging. So yes, they’re 24th in the league in scoring runs. The sneaky thing is they’re second in preventing runs they don’t need to be the best hitting team in the league to go on a tear. Incremental run improvement can absolutely improve this team’s outlook.

    I don’t expect Gray to retire either. He still has a ton of fire. However, Gray strikes me as a guy who would pitch for free.

    How did the rebuild work for Pittsburgh, Detroit, KC? Rebuilds in baseball take longer than 3 years. Drafted players usually take 5-6 years to reach the MLB Why would you want Falvine to make any trades if you want them fired this off-season? Aren’t they incompetent?

    Just say “no” to rebuilds! but it is time to change the GM and Manager, at least Levine, and Rocco need to go. They clearly don’t have an answer for the frustratingly awful hitting.

    When I read the title I thought “Oh my God! Did Morny die?” Also, 2008 was 6 years into the Gardenhire era. Morneau didn’t make his debut until 2 years after Kelly retired. As to the thrust of the article, agreed, Morneau’s quiet demeanor is in stark contrast to the 4 All Star appearances, AL MVP, and HR Derby champ.

    The Moneyball maxim prioritizing OBP as a key metric does still hold water. SLG drives runs, but avoiding outs can bunch up runs. balls in play forces fielding to be more effective, but as we saw in Miranda’s last stint in Minneapolis, quality of contact matters too. interestingly, OBP is up .03 in our small sample size.
