  1. As an SCSU alumnus I found the jab quite funny. Thanks Royce!
  2. The million dollar question, Ash!
  3. In the Athletic article, they walked through the difference. The Padres had a partnership w/ Diamond, meaning there’s no bankruptcy court process. With the Twins it’s just a standard buyer/seller agreement so it does fall under Bankruptcy and following the Bankruptcy process. Balley Sports did stop paying the Twins and apparently agreed to a prorated amount to keep the broadcasting going through the process.
  4. Standard of deviation matters here. Mean to median fits, I would expect it to as your graph so astutely shows, they can’t score negative runs and they rank on the middle of the pack in runs too. But the zeros and ones count. If the STDev was tighter, they’d win more games.
  5. The Athletic wrote up a good article. “ One source, who has advised some of the creditors, believes Diamond is sending a message to MLB with the move, as if to taunt them with how much the Padres are losing. This source texted: “The question to ask is, ‘What is MLB doing?’ I mean they just cost the Padres a bunch of money without a clear way to replacement. “I would expect MLB will try to launch a new RSN but it is impossible to fathom that they will get (anywhere) near the approx $50-60 million per annum they (were) getting from Bally’s. It will probably be half that and maybe even on a sports tier.” That said, MLB controls the Padres’ digital rights, the feature Diamond fruitlessly negotiated for the last several years. Now MLB can sell all media platforms for the Padres, one small step toward its goal of a local/national multiplatform viewing option. — Kaplan”
  6. I would like to see those 4 in the top 4 of the lineup very much right now, w/ Jeffers number 5
  7. I would say Pagan is the most unrepairable piece of the bullpen problem. Jax and J.Lopez being ineffective and Thielbar hurt are bigger, but more fixable.
  8. Firmly agree with the OP and @gman. Jax has had a rough month and shouldn’t be this bad forever. Pagan has been a train wreck for 3 years, why see if you can fix him in the 4th, if you couldn’t fix him in the 3rd? further, there’s too many low leverage relievers on this team, they can’t afford to have firmly established low leverage relievers. Stewart was a great find, they need to turn Pagan’s spot over to another kid, see if they have another lightning in a bottle reliever in the minors.
  9. 1) while they miss having more hitters, this rotation is awesome and P. Lopez has contributed to winning far more games than Arraez would have. Arraez WPA season to date .33, Lopez .70. Lopez has contributed twice as much to win expectancy outcomes as Arraez has. 2/3 - Buxton is still hurt. Is Buxton Perma-DH? 4 - agreed, he likely won’t stay this bad all year. 5 - Duran is the “true closer” and an elite reliever in the MLB. If he’s not good enough, there likely isn’t a reliever good enough for you. the bullpen is a problem, issue is no depth and they haven’t developed or signed depth. 3 reliable relievers out of 8 is not good. 6 - lineup inconsistency, can you provide data to back this up? Do hitters that hit in the same spot in the lineup produce better results?
  10. This! they also need to hit more. They won’t win many games scoring only 3 runs
  11. They’ve done the bonus pool slot maneuvering a few times, and have played it straight a few times. You could be on to their strategy for the draft.
  12. Wade has played 6 games in CF field being traded. The Giants don’t see him as a CF.
  13. Oh man! That is horrible news! Best of luck to Alcala on the recovery path
