  1. you are correct, WAR is not predictive, but I get the OP's intent to try to parse out the difference between the two to figure it out. I do however care quite a bit that his FIP to ERA are quite a bit different. The question is "How is he doing it?". Those two stats are the very basis of the question. How... is with very good outfield defense.
  2. his hard hit rate is down slightly as well. I think his most telling stat is BABIP, in reference to why is ERA is low and FIP is high. I like to call it "The Byron Buxton Effect"
  3. 5% 25% chance he's still a Twin 30 minutes after the first game
  4. theres 6 holes in the pitching staff. Can't fill all those holes from the minors. Agreed, the FO needs to audition minor leaguers, but "when" is the rub. I don't think all of the guys mentioned are, or ever will be, ready. I have trust that Falvine will bring them up as they are deemed ready. They are competing now. Need to do what's best for today for the big league club, and for the development of the young/milb players
  5. i recall while I was singing his praises the last couple years, you were not. I guess history is written by the victors
  6. Berardino thought Hughes was going to the 60 day DL. Not sure if you can make that move between games... interesting
  7. according to Berardino Busenitz is on his way. Vindicated or still outraged? https://mobile.twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/875921684875890689
  8. According to the cub reporter (unofficial but seems to be a decent source) an injury needs to be verified for the player to be placed on the DL. I'm not sure of the mechanics, but that does seem to call for an independent second evaluation. http://www.thecubreporter.com/disabled-lists
  9. you need to be active to be the 26th man. DL is inactive. Indeed moot... hate to say it, but they could really use his help
  10. hes on the major league DL, they'd need to option him to AAA first. Why would you short-hand yourself for the next 10 days in the middle of this string of consecutive games played?
  11. i don't yet fault the FO for the handling of minor leaguers yet. It's the middle of June, lots of time. Recycling quad-A guys isn't my favorite either, but sometimes it's required. I don't see acquiring free agents or making trades in direct conflict with promoting minor leaguers. This bullpen is awful and there's plenty of room for all of the above.
  12. Per The Cub Reporter "Beginning on MLB Opening Day up through August 31st, a club can temporarily add (recall or select) a 26th player to its MLB Active List on any day where two games are scheduled, as long as the second game was scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. If the second game was scheduled less than 48 hours in advance, a 26th man can be temporarily added to a club's MLB Active List for the second game of the doubleheader only. The "26th man" must be on the club's MLB Reserve List (40-man roster) or has to be added to the club's 40-man roster that day. The "26th man" does not have to be a pitcher."
  13. Santiago is on the DL. Not eligible to be 26th. Interesting theory though
  14. Per Berardino https://mobile.twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/875837192089763841 Wilk to start Saturday. I'm baffled why he's not the 26th man.
  15. no one knew whether or not FA relievers were going to work out at the time. So because free agents didn't work in 2017, Levine shouldn't seek out free agent relief help for 2018? Or maybe spend what it takes to get a good free agent reliever. If 3 years or more is what it takes, get it done.
  16. talk about consistency. Santana has 3 complete games and averages 6.78. Berrios has not had a complete game, and averages 6.64. Berrios seems like he has thrown up fewer clunkers this year, but maybe that's selective memory.
  17. i think 75% of the posters here begged for more bullpen help. A free agent or two would have only cost money. Even a non-competitive team needed a much better bullpen. It's way too soon to judge how good Falvey and Levine are doing.
  18. the pitching trade talk is very much related. The bench is not so thin as it is short. i think the assumption with all of the trade talk of improving the rotation is being able to permanently drop to a 12 man pitching staff, adding another bat to the bench. Escobar is extremely valuable to this team, and the only way I'd trade him is to improve the rotation. I would not trade him for a reliever as that would not necessarily give the flexibility to carry fewer relievers. I would be on the trade market for at least one very solid setup man, but would not sacrifice major league talent to acquire.
  19. if you could repeat the Nunez deal, you do it every time. I don't think they can do it again, this time. However if Nunez plus a minor leaguer could move the needle for a solid rotation #3 piece with at least a season of contract left, do it. Other than something that really improves arms, hold on to him, he does have a lot of value to the Twins
  20. Shouldn't the 4th though have been Italian hospitals? Italians sure are smart. Augie Ojeda (or Brett Fabre) is a fantastic way to give someone intravenous fluids. Go Twins
  21. agreeed w/ Thrylos too. If Turley could gain some efficiency (as some of his write ups suggested) he could be very effective. the high pitch count is what ultimately limited is start from being better. Seems like he pitched well enough to get another shot.
  22. thanks! He's my second. I also have a 3 year old daughter, when I was home for parental leave with her, I finally after 2 years went from Lurker to Poster. Seems like parenthood and TD go well together for me and my children.
