  1. according to Fangraphs/PitchFX Gibson throws 2 seem, 4 seem, slider and curve. No split finger. I've made this statement before too, but come to find out I misread what I saw/listened to Bert too much. To your point, Gibson is a quintessential Pitch To Contact pitcher with poor command. His only hope is to have the low BABIP, so yup put your best field out on his starts.
  2. i wonder about that too... I do however wonder if Stewart and Gonsalves were improperly developed as I would expect one of both of them to be closer to MLB ready by now.
  3. yeah, I'd plunk him, first AB, then have Castro push him around.
  4. I get being ejected, he was in an altercation, but the two people who picked the fight get nothing while the guy defending himself gets a suspension? That's BS.
  5. I'm very pleasantly surprised with Polanco's arm. He's played well and made the throws a major league SS should make.
  6. Duffey has been their best reliever and they're short the long man. I would swap Gibson and Duffy using Gibby as the long man, staying with 4 starters for the next 10 days. Bring up Berrios to replace Mejia
  7. Ok, so I turned it off in the 6th, but I just checked in on MLB game day to see Giminez pitching. I had to turn on the game to catch that train wreck. How do you run out of pitchers carrying 13?
  8. agree, he should not be a starter for the Twins. Neither should Phil Hughes. Behind Berrios and Mejia there's no one, unless you want to have bullpen games with Haley starting every 5th. If you cut bait on either of those two, you need Gonsalves or somebody ready for a promotion too.
  9. is Breslow, Boshers, or Rogers the new Duensing?
  10. im not surprised that Boshers is the shark bait It seems like no one they want to roster is ready so they're giving up the sacrificial lamb. How many LOOGYs does this staff need?
  11. i agree that the bullpen needs to be culled of marginal big leaguers, but I argue that Haley as a candidate should be viewed through the lens of the rotation as much as the bullpen. That rotation also needs to be culled but no matter who is replaced and who is the replacement there will be prolific short starts. I value Haleys ability to pitch 3 innings in relief effectively. The only other reliever(currently) that is capable of that is Duffey who has probably been their best reliever and should be used in high leverage situations. Otherwise yeah, Belisle, Tonkin, and Kintzler are all pretty much the same guy. Breslow and Boshers are pretty much the same guy. Those 5 need to be turned to 4 and 2 of the 4 need to be swapped for better or at least higher upside arms that can miss bats.
  12. with this bullpen I'll take league average or replacement level. There's not a lot of options right now.
  13. is that a function of the bullpen? Or is it a function of the rotation? Seems like a bit of both. Haley has promise to be an ok starter and has been ok to pretty good in a swing man role. Until he was injured he ate innings which is a really good thing for a swing man to do. Agreed tho, the bullpen does need to bring in guys like Chargois who have potential to be high leverage guys. There's 3-4 other guys who have been one inning at a time mop-up guys like say Tonkin or worse yet Breslow who's a LOOGY that can't/won't be used past the 6th that should be making room.
  14. when 3/5 of your rotation goes 5 innings or fewer pretty much every start, there's a lot of value to a long man and very little value to a LOOGY. Admittedly very SSS Haley had a 4.15 FIP with an ERA to match. That's better than Hughes, Mejia and Gibson and more innings pitched than any of those 3. Has he been lights out, shut down guy? No. he's been your 6th (or 3rd) starter
  15. hes been an ok long man. I see value in the ability to come out of the pen for 3+ innings and not let the game get further out of hand.
  16. You are correct. That's what I get for making assumptions in regards to suspensions. http://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3506 "An MLB player or minor league player who is placed on his club's Suspended List does not count against his club's Active List or Reserve List. An MLB player or minor league player who is placed on his league's Suspended List does count against his club's Reserve List and Active List. A player on the Suspended List continues to accrue service time. The main instance where it is used is when a player is suspended by the league as the result of an on-field incident, but it can also be initiated by the player's own club in the case of unacceptable behavior (such as a player getting into an altercation with his manager, a teammate, or a fan), or a violation of team rules related to chronic tardiness, possession of alcohol or reporting to work intoxicated, missing a doctor's appointment, et al. The Suspended List is used more liberally in the minor leagues, mainly because minor league players don't have the protection of a union. NOTE: When an MLB player is placed on the Suspended List, a grievance is usually filed by the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) on behalf of the suspended player because the player does not get paid while on the list." Also, i pray that when Adrianza gets activated DanSan is the casualty.
  17. i buy this with SS, C, and CF. not so much at first. Mauer is one of the 25 best players on the team and the best first baseman right now, but that's not a real high bar. Man I hope Park gets healthy and goes on a madman tear. He's shown flashes of very good fielding and clearly can hit dingers. It'd be great if he could look as awesome in the bigs as he does on all those KBO videos on YouTube
  18. i should hope Rowson and Sano noticed and are working on it. I don't know exactly what the threshold is for SSS alerts, but 7 games is definitely a SSS alert.
  19. if Sano is suspended he comes off the roster, though he'd have a definite gripe being the catcher made contact first. What do you mean by this? " The Twins have an automatic move off the 40 man involving Ehire Adrianza."
  20. https://mobile.twitter.com/RhettBollinger/status/855916165142589442 http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/twins-justin-haley-lands-on-dl-with-biceps-injury/ Let the corresponding roster move speculation begin
  21. pre-arbitration has value, and the preference would be to get the initial return and the cut bait before the arbitration salaries out weigh the utility
  22. i think Murphy is the first callup to conserve service time for Garver, but they aren't dropping a pitcher to add a 3rd catcher.
  23. catchers get injured, players go thru cold streaks, it's a long season. The odds are stacked against him, though I hope he does debut this year and earn his spot in the bigs
