  1. As I see it, DanSan kept his spot over Park. Park could probably play SS about as well as DanSan, but apparently hitting dingers isn't enough. See, I can say outlandish nonsense just like Souhan
  2. ok, lots better pitching, but still not good pitching and not good enough to overcome their hitting. I think the Twins and Royals fight for last place in the division
  3. Fantastic review/overview! I do like me some Hot Indian.
  4. This year the Royals look almost as ugly as the Twins do. Slightly better pitching, terrible hitting. The battle of who could care less... yeesh
  5. why in the Heck isn't Hughes starting the season on the DL? I gotta think Duffy starts the season in the Pen to be the assigned second starter to Hughes' 2 inning "starts".
  6. im kinda baffled Hughes isn't starting the season on the DL. By accounts he's been shaky and low velocity
  7. remember our wager on beverages over 13 pitchers? I do.... And I love Surly
  8. agreed, but it begins and ends with pitching.
  9. its so hard to filter the lens thru which you consume your information. We tend to take sides which is the role of organized labor, management, and media. The truth is always in the middle as organized labor exists to be the counterbalance to poor management. If MLB management did not abuse their labor in the earlier days, management would not have the disadvantage in labor negotiations (relative to other sports) that they have today. I'm uncertain the extent of the abuse today. As I earlier stated, it's difficult to be impartial. I do give Slowey credit for turning his ability to lawyer his position into a pretty decent gig.
  10. of 14 options for 12 pitchers on the opening day roster about 4 of them SHOULD be plan A.
  11. agreed, but I can see a scenario where Haley and Wimmers are both in long relief based on how Falvine feels about the roatation. Maybe not opening day, but short starts and taxed bullpen with no optionable pitchers loom on the horizon.
  12. if these guys can't stand out on the worst pitching staff in baseball why bother?
  13. i would maybe look to have Buck or Park hit 3 and Sano 5. Otherwise I really like these lineups based on OBP
  14. last year he had the highest OBP on the team. Of any stat for lead off, that's it
  15. Forgive my ignorance, I always assumed that Radke, Viola and Baker were starters when they were amateurs and had 3 pitches when they became big leaguers
  16. if he was big league ready the Red Sox wouldn't have let him go rule 5. The criteria isn't if he shows you enough to be the 5th starter or mop up guy, but if he shows you enough upside and/or you think you can fix him, to be worth stashing on your 25 man roster. I don't know the answer there, but a success could mean a lot for 2018 as the roster is constructed we could see a very similar rotation in 2018 to 2017. Can Falvey and Allen fix Haley? I would be interested to see them try.
  17. 2015 was also the return from suspension mid-season. When everyone else is already at top speed it takes a while to catch up. My recollection (cuz I'm too lazy on Sunday morning to look it up) was Santana looked bad his first couple starts and the pitch forks and torches were out in the forums here. By the end of the season TR looked like a genius. I'd guess a more studious fan could chart his OOZ swing rate by start that season to see well below career at the beginning and well above at the end, average 20% because he didn't have enough starts raise the average up to 2014/2016 is levels
  18. Theres a reason why MLB players have almost exclusively guaranteed contracts as opposed to every other US pro sport, where guaranteed contracts are almost never guaranteed. The MLBPA did not get that influential by letting "insignificant details" go by. They investigate everything that the owners and GMs do in regards to the sport's affects on its union members. It's their duty to ensure the players cannot be negatively impacted by tracking fatigue. What if the intention to protect players from injury becomes a bargaining chip in contract negotiation? It's certain to happen at some point. The union would want to evaluate first.
  19. I think instead of giving Gibson a personal catcher, Molli should give him his personal shortstop
  20. i think they need Grossmans OBP more than the org filler that would be the return for Grossman.
  21. i prefer to think of myself as a Spartan. So you value Grossman over DanSan but have a perceived notion that Grossman might return some sort of value in trade, more than his value to the team as currently constructed?
  22. if you think this, why wouldn't every GM in MLB. I think Grossman's value is getting on base and the other DH types have an option left. Have Grossman DH to start the season with an occasional start in left to see if he can replicate last year. If he can't, it's ok to cut bait and bring up Vargas, Park or Palka
  23. so they need to bring back Cuddy for his card tricks in the clubhouse?
