    there is opportunity cost. While I'm in favor of this move, depending on who gets sent, trading away prospects on low wattage moves means you can't package them on a higher wattage move.

    Sano must be the heir apparent to Mauer. I doubt he's still at 3rd in 2020, and if he is still the third baseman and good at it (better yet!) passable first basemen are regularly available free agents, or someone could emerge rather quickly from the minors.

    there's real potential, but you can only count on 1 of Romero, Gonsalves, and Thorpe. If things really break right, you might get two major league regulars out of the 4 in the next three years. I doubt any of them spend more than half the 2018 season in the bigs. Agreed, anything you can get from Burdi, Chargois, Jay, and I add in Reed is bonus. Which ever one is healthiest first, bring him up to mop up, probably Reed (over Breslow) ASAP.

    on the position player side, I can see good things on the horizon. On the pitching side, the cupboard is bare and grocery store is almost empty in the near to mid-term.

    it depends if Hughes has no trade rights, per The Cub Reporter Outright Release Waivers Submitted by Arizona Phil on Sun, 09/02/2012 - 1:38am Outright Release Waivers are irrevocable and cannot be withdrawn once they are requested. While a player claimed off Outright Assignment Waivers costs $20,000 (or $25,000 for a Rule 5 or Draft-Excluded player), a club can claim a player off Outright Release Waivers for the minuscule sum of $1. However, a club that claims a player off Release Waivers is responsible for paying 100% of the player's remaining salary, whereas if the same club waits until the player clears Release Waivers, the club can sign the player for the MLB minimum salary (or prorated portion of the MLB minimum salary), with the player's former club responsible for the balance. A player who is claimed off Outright Release Waivers has the option to decline the assignment and become a free-agent (he has up to five days to decide).     im trading in that TV for pennies on the dollar so I don't have to pay someone else to dispose of it for me later. Opportunity cost of prospects getting low leverage experience being the "trade in value" for Hughes. The longer they wait, the more likely the injury. Hopefully it's not a Romero or Gonsalves or Berrios that gets injured

    it depends on the policy, but as far as I know, every policy is based on injury.

    Perkins has a $700k buy out option for 2018 - that will no doubt be exercised. One could also lump Gibson in this pile - while he's not injured, he's been ineffective, with up to 3 spots in the rotation potentially open at the end of the season, it would be a devil you know, vs devil you don't situation. Gibson will be out of options and no longer arbitration eligible, he might be had cheaply. I hope he's had cheaply elsewhere

    the contract is the point of the exercise. If his contract wasn't ugly, it wouldn't be a salary dump.     While intra-division trades are rare, the writer quoted below has an interesting idea. http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2017/07/a-rod_miggy_to_boston.html Trade to get Fulmer, take on Zimmerman's bad contract, potentially upgrade two spots in the rotation. I am doubtful the Twins have the resources to make this happen... but what if... If you could overcome being in the same division, what would it take?

    I think hat's changed is that Cleveland was supposed to dominate the division, and hasn't yet. Agreed with those above, can't really go "all-in" but need to improve the rotation and bullpen for this year and 2-3 years to come.

    i would hope that the plan is to put enough front end pitching in place to put Mejia back to #5 and May, Romero, Gonsalves, Jorge go to AAA or the bullpen and be starters 6,7,8.

    Gibson's HR/FB rate is really high this year compared to the last couple years. I would expect it to come down some over the rest of the season.
