  1. fascinating! Maybe the FO found a bit of a diamond in the rough with Every Day Eddie
  2. It would be great to see Joe ride off into the sunset on a high note. Great article Seth
  3. Ok, I would be slightly less harsh, but only slightly. It didn’t work. You are emphasizing teamwork and glossing-over talent. Michael Scott quoted all those inspirational posters too, but that was one disfunctional office. The organization I work for recruits the most talented people it can attain first and coaches leadership behaviors once new employees are on boarded.
  4. The FO needs to find A front of the rotation pitcher 1-2 bullpen arms First base (or move Sano and find 3rd) Second Base (or move Polanco and find SS) Catcher (I love Astudillo as a 3rd catcher utility guy, Garver could be the guy, or first base.... Castro and knee injuries leaves me concerned) Probably a corner OF with Kepler as CF and Cave as 4th OF. That’s 25% of the Active roster already. Trades should be prospects to acquire big leaguers or close to big leaguers. Unless you really get blown away on a big leaguer like Kepler/Buxton/Rosario/Polanco/Sano where you could transform the franchise
  5. Everyone is available for the right price. That being said, I’m not shopping him because he’s my fallback for Buxton in ‘19.
  6. is it really? How can one say it’s complicated in one sentence, then say that Hunter’s comments apply to Buxton too? Hunter works for the MN Twins. If the Hunter method applies, then why isn’t it working? Leadership isn’t talking a good talk. Leadership is actions and behaviors. Leadership is winning.
  7. couldn’t agree more, but when you are hiring an accountant, you don’t look at your pool of applicants and say “he’s entirely unqualified, but let’s hire him anyways: just look at the leadership” You hire the most qualified accountant and use leadership attributes as the tie breaker. I suppose there’s this pool of relievers in the x dollar range or catchers in the y dollar range and Levine recruits and signs the one that checks the most boxes and he can come to an agreement to price. It doesn’t sound like that, it sounds like the FO is seeking out leaders specifically, which we know the old adage about too many cooks spoiling the soup. I agree that leadership is important, but there’s a gap in my understanding of how it fits in the acquisition of talent and outcomes on the field. There was another poster that pointed out, and I agree, that leadership doesn’t directly impact individual players. If all Buxton needed to pull it all together to be a superstar, he’d have his mentor by now.
  8. Great interview Ted! If you get a chance, please pass along my thanks to Mr. Giminez for his insights. Generally for anyone to comment. At my place work, part of our development plans is identifying leadership activities and concepts to work on. This happens at every level of the organization, from the CEO to the Janitors. There’s been some chatter from the FO that they may have found the threshold to the “too many one year contracts” and its effects on a baseball franchise. Is it just that this years team is too mercenary? Kind of an odd solution to trade for a rental to gain leadership...
  9. i still wanna see Garver get the majority of time behind the dish, but agreed Astudillo should get more than he has gotten.
  10. it's a Pitchers Duel
  11. agreed from all the evidence - but what if Molitor and are Falvine are on different pages? If I were Falvine and trying to put as many pitchers on my 2019 roster as humanly possible, I would like Astudillo's combination of position flexibility and contact skills. he's passable at C, 3b, 2b, LF and never Ks.
  12. isnt that the ultimate goal? To entice your opponent to reduce the number of plate appearances of their best hitters?
  13. Gleeman wrote about that 7 years ago. Still pretty applicable https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2011/03/14/why-arent-more-mlb-general-managers-former-mlb-players/ I’m not yet ready to be done with Falvine yet. It’s only been 2 years. I can’t blame you for your skepticism of them as leaders of baseball ops, but I can’t blame them on this move. It was Buxton and his injuries/ineffectiveness that created this situation. A repeat of last year, and he’d at least be up. How can 30 days at the end of a season be worthwhile at the expense of a year? Buxton needs to hit and stay healthy. The rest will sort itself out.
  14. why would Dougie Baseball or Dozier’s opinions matter?
  15. agreed that cutting those two were mistakes, esp Rodriguez. how many guys have they cut that we never hear of?
  16. I agree that Buxton is probably not happy with the situation. I doubt we’ll see a big rift over this. I didn’t get the sense from the article that there’s a huge storm brewing.
  17. https://www.mlb.com/news/byron-buxton-will-not-play-during-september/c-292993134 Buxton’s wrist injury still hurting. Romero hit innings limit
  18. not even close. 1994-‘01 was way more bleak. I wasn’t around for the Senators, but it’s impressive to have hundred loss seasons in 154 games. I hate Reusse’s writing, but he had a couple points nestled in between his curmudgeonly grunts. This team has its work cut out for it, but I’m still hopeful this offseason and all those resources available [read: KA-CHING!] work out better than ‘18.
  19. its only pride that stops them from finishing out the season 20-12? What about the Indians, Astros, Yankees and As?
  20. Grossman has negative defensive value, his one and only skill is getting on base. He can’t hit, he can’t field, so his “role” is as pinch hit DH when the bases are loaded in the bottom of the 9th so he can try to walk in a run but it’s ok to lose your DH. Meanwhile the rest of your bench consists of a one utility infielder, one 4th outfielder, and a backup catcher. In the age of 13 man pitching staffs, every bench player must have field and hit utility, especially in the AL. Is it Molitor’s fault that Grossman is there? No. It is Molitors fault Grossman was written into the lineup card 300+ times over the last 3 seasons
  21. you answered a different question than the quotation, but it was my question. Thanks for answering. Buxton, Wade, and Cave are unproven commodities. In 2018 the 7th option for OF will end up being one of the better contributors. It’s likely Granite is never even an MLB 4th OF, and Buxton has hit or stayed healthy enough to be counted on. I’m fine with Austin as the 5th outfielder. He shouldn’t be a starter by default.
  22. agreed with Nicksaviking, need to improve the front of the rotation. Pineda could, and if the FO were to make a big move and Pineda looks like the Pineda of old, could become the best of the bunch.... BUT... Pineda has just as high of a likelihood of failing miserably. Also, the median baseball team trots out 10 different starters in a season and at least one a year sends out 13+ without counting the reliever bullpenning situation. Superior teams have the triple A depth that when they get to 8-10 don’t put up the inning and a third and 5 runs like we’ve been seeing with our own versions. Minor league depth in the rotation is critical
  23. Wait... Mauer, free agent at the end of the season is a certainty while Kepler, under team control for 3 more seasons and going through Arbitration for the first time this offseason is not a certainty?
