  1. can u-haul unload a bunch of that real estate for a good price and not take a massive tax hit? They have a terrible liquidity crunch on their hands... If they can squeeze through that itty-bitty window, and start flowing cash again there’s still a question of growth. Looking at the adjacent housing market, is now the time to exit self storage? Mortgage interest rates can only climb from here. Home prices are sky high and still climbing. With a decade of growth since the Great Recession, are moves as a result of home buying going to grow? I’m skeptical. If you can’t move to a bigger house, you need somewhere to store all your stuff. But self storage is a cash hog and saturated. I’m not buying it. I’m no investment pro, I’m sure they know things I don’t, but I just don’t get it. I’m not buying that recommendation
  2. According to Sherman and Martino, the Mets filed a grievance against Cespedes and stopped paying his 29mil salary last September. They’ve now come to an agreement for 10 mil guaranteed and 20 mil in incentives. Speculation by Jeff Todd that it has to do with his ranch incident last spring. Tons of links below... fascinating, I can’t think of another incident like this. https://mobile.twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/1205629286755061761 https://mobile.twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/1205607761054179328 https://mobile.twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1205597454550224896 https://mobile.twitter.com/timbhealey/status/1130565124052410368 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/mets-yoenis-cespedes-agree-to-amended-contract.html
  3. that’s not how the company I work for works, and with player salaries something more than 40% of cost of goods sold, I can’t imagine any owner being ok with going over budget, just this once. I would guess there are scenarios built in around acquiring levels of contracts, but at the end, the budget is the budget, and there is never ever carry over, year to year
  4. last day is rule 5 draft. That's usually on a Friday when I freak out over losing some career minor leaguer that I now can't remember....
  5. With Odorizzi on the QO and Pineda on a two year deal, you’ve only got Berrios and Pineda for 2021. Development is not linear, so having more pitchers would help alleviate my anxiety... Alcantara as your 5th starter in ‘20 gives a ton of upside and depth with Dobnak in AAA. We all saw how thin a rotation can get as the season wears on.
  6. DSP literally does have a chair at the table that Derek Falvey does not. https://www.mlb.com/twins/team/front-office The org chart has DSP on the executive board with the three Pohlad Brothers. Notably not Falvey on the board. DSP is CEO and Falvey is senior VP. Pecking order is clear
  7. Lots of discussion regarding Cole to the Yankees here http://twinsdaily.com/topic/35804-front-page-official-twins-winter-meetings-day-3-thread/page-3?do=findComment&comment=941398
  8. Maybe Ryu told them he wants a fresh start?
  9. and still came up short!
  10. Sad to see SCSU drop it’s D2 Football program. https://www.twincities.com/2019/12/10/st-cloud-state-to-end-football-golf-programs-in-2020-due-to-legal-financial-issues/
  11. It doesn’t have to be free agency, there is still time to get a deal done. Hopefully sign Ryu and make a trade!
  12. I am sorry to see Gibby go, but am happy for him and his opportunity. What a class act!
  13. Similar K rates and FIP for each. Ryu has the edge on WPA for the last two years. 2018 (1.08 vs .46) and 2019 (3.73 vs -.4). Also assume Ryu can be had on a more team friendly deal due to injury issues. My vote Ryu, hopefully Wes and the training staff can keep him healthy.
  14. I liked the line on Shelton’s ink, very funny!
  15. That is the link for notification settings. I have my notification set for when I am quoted. I get notifications for 99% of the time I am quoted, but if Nick, Seth, or Ted quote me, I don’t get a notification.
  16. I would think if margins were actually as thin as some of the article/estimations show, we’d see a lot more of the private equity leveraged buyouts like we saw in retail during the mid-aughts. That would be a nightmare scenario for fans, owners and players alike, but with ownership already private, those details are rather opaque. I guess we saw a version of that 17 years ago with the Expos being purchased by the league and resold and moved. Since then team valuations have only increased.
  17. I’ve noticed this too and assumed it was because the writers probably use the article comments and not the forums. This is a good question for Brock Beauchamp our owner/IT/guru-extraordinaire.
  18. Mod Note: Keep it about the OP and not each other. goulik put good research and writing into the thread starter and deserves good debate about the Twins willingness to increase total payroll.
  19. Hendricks is on a 4 year 55 mil with a ‘24 vesting option. Darvish 6 year 126m thru ‘23. Darvish did not opt out this year. Does Darvish have another opt out clause? I would think Darvish would be the cheaper trade in terms of prospects even with the sexier k rate. Hendricks being three years younger and 8 mil per year cheaper with a similar FIP would leave room for Donaldson, and my preference. I’d be happy with either, or both.
  20. his season in total wasn’t far from his career in aggregate. 24% K rate, 5% walk rate, 3.67 FIP is good mid-rotation output.
  21. Hopefully Sergio does well for himself, wherever he signs.
  22. yup, Lee County owns it, and Jet Blue park. https://www.businessobserverfl.com/article/boston-red-sox-and-minnesota-twins-spring-training-economic-impact-lee-county-businesses
  23. thanks for resurrecting this thread. I just watched 1.1 on Prime because of this post. Fantastic! I look forward to the rest
  24. So the floor for the ‘20 rotation is (providing health) the ‘19 rotation which was top 10. I’m very ok with that and will be very pleased if the FO can acquire a front of the rotation starter to move back Berrios, Odorizzi and Pineda a slot.
