Trio Hinting at Twins Pitching Pipeline
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am happy for their personal success, but we need to have some prospects step up and become dominant and these three do not seem to have the assets to do that. What I do not want is to fill out a rotation of okay pitchers that block possible top arms. Let's hope we have some who really excite us.- 40 replies

I understand the excitement over Noah Miller, but as I have posted in the pass I want to see him perform in the minors before handing him such a high rank. I will be interested in the top ten since Celestino and Winder could not crack it. Final thought - I like Wallner, he seems to be what the team wanted Sabato to be.

If he played more he might. It is hard to hold part time irregular players to the standards of starters -

This is old time baseball except Ober would have pitched nine. Why are we throwing away the first two spots in the lineup? Kepler and Rooker do not belong there. Of course Polanco and Arraez are the only two who do. How many Twins are batting more than 250?- 50 replies

Astudillo continues to defy the doubters. Is it because of his body that so many want to knock him? He had a good defensive play, a key HR, and he will play anywhere on any day with enthusiasm. I love watching him. Last night when he was pulled Dan Gladden was in shock, not because of a defensive replacement, but that they pinch hit for him after he had just hit the big HR. With Jax and Ober giving us serviceable starting, its time to see some more young arms. -
I enjoyed seeing both Balazovic and Sabato have big nights, but the item that really got me was the choice to bring up 35 year old Nick Vincent for Burrows. I am happy to be done with Burrows, but bringing up a 35 year old in a year where we need to learn about our talent for the future really seems strange to me.

In Defense of the Twins Front Office

You forget Harris of the Giants, Cashman - Yankees, Preller - San Diego, Tampa Bay, and a number of other good front offices in your comparison. -
Interesting list of names we know from other postings. Rooker not being in the top ten, his slash line in both AAA and MLB has me questioning his long term future with the club. I hope he lights it up the rest of the year and then, of course, he will have to be dropped from the list altogether. I was surprised to see Sands so low, I hope that means that the pitchers above him are really good. Disappointing to see Enlow out for a year. I hope Steer continues to develop into a good utility man in the majors. Nice report.

I guess I was projecting. He has worked hard for a lot of years. His performance was dipping, his playing time was getting less and less - then he is in the minors again. I would be depressed.

Gordon is not a prospect anymore for me. I hope he gets more chances in MLB but I think his performance does not warrant being this high on your list. Sabato has been a huge disappointment and I would not have him on the list at all, but I understand that he was a first round choice. When you are finished please give us the rankings by position - especially pitchers. Thanks for the work.

In Defense of the Twins Front Office
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With baseball it is always wait and see. Our fans are in shock - preseason favorites to compete for the title, news of signings to put us over the playoff edge, a seemingly complacent approach to the BP and the fans who had the faith entering the season found themselves floundering before the end of the first month. Fans cannot fire the FO, but they can complain - it is there right. The problem is, they can also stop listening, stop attending, and stop caring. The challenge for this FO is to not just get the team winning again, but to get the fans back so that they can then start to add to the fanbase. -
This was not the most uplifting of the weekly reports. Gordon is depressed and played like it. Balazovic was auditioning to be a Twin and blew it. Moran looks great so the Twins start Burrows. Miranda looks great so we keep Donaldson off the IL and he does not play in the field all week. Hard to respond positively after the White Sox just made the MLB team look like it should be an FCL team. Thanks for the report.

Okay - Detroit cuts Burrows. We pick him up. What is wrong with that scenario? I guess we know now and no, this is not the first time Burrows has looked bad. Who is next on the Twins assembly line? Could we, maybe, try one of our own minor leaguer BP pitchers who have actually done well this year? If they do bad what can we say? At least they weren't scrapped out of someone else's dustbin.- 25 replies

I agree on Moran. Stop with the pickups like Burrows and give our own guys a chance. I am surprised by Javier's age. Seems like we have read about him forever. Not impressed so far but hope is always on the horizon.

Week in Review: New-Look Rotation
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice article. I would request you or Seth do another article on pitching prospects - take our current young pitchers, the old list of Dobnak/Lewis/Smeltzer, the newly acquired, and the minor leaguers including those on the IL and give us a ranking that is based on MLB potential. All these names keep popping up and the newest names always look best because they have not had a chance to show us why they are not great so please help us out. We now have all these arms and I wonder about Ober/Jax/Barnes in comparison - do they get the slots because of seniority or talent?- 37 replies

mikelink45 replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good for Pineda, but why are we starting him? After 111 games we don't need to see what he can do. Sign him to an extension and then use him or let some more minor league pitchers start (if we have any that are not on the IL). The same with Simmons - if he is going audition SS. Let Gordon play, try Palacios. The same with Cave and anyone else that is not part of the future. The only thing that will keep most fans interested is the progress of prospects not the free agent finish of veterans who have led us to this dismal record. -
Minor League Report 8/7 Walk-Off Winners
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Five of our prospects injured list - then I read the transactions and it looks like all our pitchers are going down. Is this common amongst the other minor leagues? Is there something wrong with the mechanics, the coaching? It is depressing to see so many good arms shut down. It will be all BP games pretty soon and over use will destroy the relievers too. What can be done?- 11 replies

Looking at the BP chart I keep wondering why Burrows and not one of our AAA BP arms? Is it because the FO wants to show how smart their moves are? We need some reinforcements for the next two games.- 28 replies

Just an all around good game. Jax and Ober are learning and making their mark, now to start some more young pitchers and see what we have. Let them learn in this lost year.
