    Time for an update on Eddie - he was a one man wrecking crew in the Wednesday playoff game and when he is happy and got that big smile he also impacts the team with joy.

    Just like Greinke - time to move on. Age is not negotiable and we have enough bats to fill the DH/1B/corner OF slots. He was great to have on our team, but like Thome he has only so much gas left in the tank at this stage and if you remember he left us mid season for a contender just like Cruz and then the next year he was on three different teams and called it quits. Time for the old song - Thanks for the memories -

    No. I will take someone with an upward potential over someone who is quickly showing the signs of aging. Greinke looked terrible in the playoffs so far and I worry that his attitude also would not play in Minnesota. Not interested.

    You need an update - Rosario had another really good night. What can I say, I liked him, but most did not. Way to go Eddie.

    Who else would they sign? We know Rogers and he has the potential to come back and be a very good relief pitcher. Robles and Colome and all the dumpster dives prove that it is often best to stay with the reliever you know than to hope you can find a better one. The White Sox thought they had what they needed in Kimbrel - he has the history and record, but the cost did not meet the results. Philadelphia keeps signing RP and watching them flame out. BP management and reliable arms are what we need.

    I look forward to all of them. Put Lewis at SS and let's judge him then. Keep Buxton in CF. Flexibility is fine, but look at Houston - how often do their players move around - they have found a lineup and stay with it. I like letting players get comfortable where they belong. Then use flex when necessary. I do not know much about Martin, he has not been with us long enough for TD to educate me so I will wait on him, but I want Lewis and Miranda on the club this year.

    If you watched the Astro Red Sox game Tuesday night you would understand why Greinke is the last pitcher I would want. He is not a big game pitcher and never has been, he is aging and will want to be paid like a superstar. His war this year was 1.2 despite 11 wins. His WAR the last three years was just about 1 - he is now average and that is not what this staff needs.

    No, We need his bat, he hits HRs, but he also gets other hits something that is lacking for many of our batters. As I watch the post season I have loved to see players get well placed hits against the shift. That is true baseball. Polanco has bat control and is a player I am happy to see come to bat.

    Hard to to talk about Rosario - how fun to watch in the Atlanta game. But Kiriloff does not replace Eddie, he is a player that I am happy to have on the team, but his history of injuries is something that does worry me.

    I have a really hard time answering your question. How much Faith do we have in relief pictures? Colome has lost me completely and if he comes back you're right I won't be happy. But when I look at relief pictures they are so erratic I don't know how to project any of them. Starting pictures I would get one free agent, one really good free agent, and then build with a minor league stars that we call prospects. DH is not something that I like to see filled with Rooker he has disappointed me with his combined efforts the last two years. I am okay with Sano. The trouble is we let our team slide when we were at the top and now it's hard to know how to stop the momentum and go back up to the top.

    At the same time that we debate whether to keep Josh Donaldson in his big contract we talk about giving a big contract to a shortstop home by the end of it will also be moved to second base or we will try to trade him. Get the pictures we need use Polanco until Martin or Lewis is ready and stop looking at everybody else's shiny toy is something better than the one we have. And I don't mean that comment to criticize this article which I thought was well done. This is what we have to do if we're going to sign the shortstop I just don't think we should

    We chose to pay Josh the money that's in his contract. I ignore money when I look at baseball because none of it is real to me. But to pay him to play somewhere else really is throwing money away. I love Miranda and he looks great but we still don't know if he's ready for the majors. That's one of the reasons I was frustrated that we didn't bring him up at the end of last season. But if he's as good as he looks we'll find a way to play him. We're not going to have Simmons. If we've trade somebody it might be a rise homeranda could easily replace one of our outfield DH first base group and he could fit in there too.

    Your reasoning is sound, but I think the Rays showed that you do not need a big signing if you are bringing up quality arms.

    Thanks for the report. I like him. Based on what he did after leaving the team for AAA I think he learned his lessons well and will be ready to come back for much better results in the future. I take him over Jake Cave.

    I liked your post but I do not want 3 FA starters - I would take two - even one - and start using our young guys. Same in BP. Point #5 is right on. And I hope Celestino can be the guy and that Larnach corrects whatever the scouts found out to stop his production.

    Nice review and feel good look at Twins possibilities. Rookie pitchers! Something our FO seems adverse to trying, we are more into retreads. Let's hope that changes.

    Nice summary, you really showed the flaws and for the money that they want and will get it is not worth it. This is not the time where a SS will put us over the top. Use what we have - Polanco, Gordon, Martin, Lewis - piece it together for another year and see if the prospects can take over. Then invest in one very good SP and one very good RP. I can see teams paying a lot of money for players who are past their prime in this scenario. How has Lindor or Bauer worked out on big contracts? Mookie Betts played great his first year in LA - This year a 264 with 23 HRs output is not at the value of his contract Years: 12 (through 2032) Total value: $365 million Signing bonus: $65 million Average per year: $30,416,667 (11th in MLB) Contract details Everyone was excited about D J Mahieu - he signed a big contract and then batted 268 with 1.5 WAR. The Brewers were happy to sign Jackie Bradley, Jr and managed to get -0.7 WAR. Marcell Ozuna looked great then his personal issues damaged the Atlanta Braves like Trevor Bauer and the Dodgers. I am not a big contract guy. Paying for past performance makes no sense and MLB has really fallen into its own trap. Look at the Angels - Rodon, Trout, and now Ohtani will have monster contracts and no post season. Some sense has to prevail.

    I enjoyed this essay. All four are good ideas, but Lewis is the one that worries me. I wish he could have gone to the AFL and got some diamond time in. I do not look for him this next year. I also question why Martin was not in the fall league as well as Richardson. I like your take on Jax. A RP from our minor leagues would be great.

    I am shocked - this does not look like a real prospect list. Wallner is interesting, but so is Rooker and that does nothing to move the needle. I had to look back to see who we chose in past years and we usually have one or two real prospects and then question marks so this year is not too different. 2019, Royce Lewis, Jovani Moran, Luke Raley, Dakota Chambers, Zack Neff, Moises Gomez. In 2018 - Brent Rooker, Jaylin Davis, Travis Blankenhorn, Hector Lujan, Alex Robinson, Devin Smeltzer, Luke Raley, and Griffin Jax were the planned players. 2017 - LaMonte Wade, Tyler Jay, Chris Paul, Andrew Vasquez, Ryan Eades, Tom Hackimer, Sean Miller.

    Nice choices. Too painful for me to go back and try to find any others, but Joe Ryan's debut would be another highlight.

    Yes - he is the FA we hope we can sign for 2022. He is the pitcher we hope the team can bring up from the prospects. Good luck Mr Berrios. I hope you continue to succeed.

    I was a Milwaukee Brave fan and my family journeyed to see them for one series every year. Loved all those great players. You are right - he and Yogi Berra at the Battle of the Bulge. What a career and what a life. Without the war he might have won 400, but Koufax and others got their days of fame while he just annually did great. So consistent that he was overlooked.
