Do the Twins Have an Ace in the System?
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't know - it takes 2 - 3 years in MLB before we have the ability to start making that judgment. An awful lot comes down to attitude. Some just have the mental strength to surpass physical assets.- 22 replies

I like the Houston team - need to say it since there is still so much hate. Since the Twins were willing to take on Correa the talk of cheating should be in the past - I have great respect for Dusty Baker and hope he gets the series. But if he does Pressly will play a very significant role. Interesting that two top closers in the article are both former Twins. The most impactful trade is not in the article - it was the trade of raging cancer called Donaldson who let the Yankees down, created his normal level of frustration by behavior and mouth and not enough with his bat to make it acceptable. Character does matter. Gibson did not pitch well enough to really be a contributor - his 5.05 ERA takes him back to his Twins days and we are fine to be rid of him.

Record Starting Contract on the Twins Docket Next?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All of these options are either old and ready to diminish in quality or they are injury prone. Let's start working on developing our own Ace. Give one of these a ridiculous one year contract like we did to Correa and see how the team shapes up.- 38 replies

Twins Trade Candidate: Jorge Polanco
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He is our best candidate to move. Better to move veterans like Polanco than the younger prospects. I think Polanco has peaked and he like so many Twins has too much injury history. But most of all, there are a lot of replacements that are good quality. If we want something good we have to give up something good. A position player like Polanco does not have the value to get a strong SP by himself, but in a package he can be the name that starts the discussion. He represents more than Kepler who was discussed in another entry. -
The Reclamation Starters for Twins Need to End
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am not sure what their strategy is, but even if the rotation is sound, 4 - 5 innings means we have half the game in the hands of the BP - every game! This has not worked and won't work. Time for a new strategy for both SP and BP.- 37 replies

Like the others I want to redraw your Gray line - none of these pitchers move the bar. It is young pitchers or a trade! Odorizzi and Gibson on the list indicate how weak this FA crop really is. As I read your reviews so many had bad years, so many are questionable, and almost all of them are too old to expect a great rise in performance.

That is a great recap. But luckily we have Winder, Ober, Ryan, Varland, Richardson on the team as the season ended, the question is which if them will get a good chance in the majors next year. Balazovic and Enlow are the two most disappointing. Is this a pipeline to A+ starters or to middle to end of the rotation arms? It will be interesting to see how it sorts out.

Which Frontline Starter Should the Twins Go Get?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are some names in this article that really make me nervous - no to Kluber, for example. No to Clevinger, please. If we want to upgrade we may have to trade one of the pitchers we have plus something. I would think Maeda would be a perfect move quickly candidate.- 52 replies

Can the Twins Win With Jose Iglesias?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All I can say to your question is - we could not win with a Superstar. It is about the team, not one individual.- 42 replies

Revisiting The Josh Donaldson (Gio Urshela) Trade
mikelink45 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Moving the mistake called Donaldson was the plus and the reason the trade works. Signing Correa is a different issue no matter how people want to shuffle the dollars. Kiner Falefa would be the fill in SS this next year until Lewis is ready. Urshela was a definite plus, Sanchez is gone. Their combined salaries subtracted from Donaldson did not leave us a big surplus to sign anyone. Would our winning pct have changed with Donaldson or without Correa?- 18 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love all the spend money responses - actually I just love all those who post to argue with me - but spending ridiculous money will never be something I support even if it is monopoly money - unless there is a get out of jail free card too.- 86 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My preference is a trade for a pitcher using the excess talent that we are supposed to have at second base.- 86 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree that we have young players to fill the gaps and we need to get them in the majors along with those who have already come but I don't believe that we are more than a 500 team which means that we need to start looking at places where we have excess strength and people like polanco if they have value need to be traded for what we need. The team we currently have proved to be at 481 and thus any argument the good shape has to look at the reality of our team versus those we are competing with. I do believe we need another starting pitcher, not because we don't have a lot of good arms, but we don't have the stopper. Jack Morris was the difference Maker for us in 1991 and we need that kind of arm on our staff.- 86 replies

Edouard Julien Can Take the Next Step in 2023

Time to consider our infield surplus is trade candidates to get the pitcher we need. It appears that we have the candidates to fill the holes if we can find somebody who wants our current talent. -
Twins Need to Fix Revolving Door Up the Middle
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm ready to wait for the young player to take over and we got three choices for that. That's where we get long-term repeat Short stops like we had with gagne and Versalles. The biggest contract for the Superstar is not the solution for me. Develop that short stuff. So Houston did and when they star gets too pricey they were ready with another one to fill this place- 23 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He is a star - that is not my argument but his salary and more years of commitment are not things I support. It is not a stat issue, it is the fact that we are better to develop players who will get better the next five years instead of committing to someone who might decline over those years.- 86 replies

Why Would the Twins Pay Anyone but Carlos Correa?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Guardians had one star and great pitching and great defense. They got to the playoffs and even won two against the Yankees. Correa was not going to carry the team and we would have been in the same place in the standings without him. Maybe signing pitchers who are not ready for the IL might be a better strategy.- 86 replies

Looking at 3 Under-The-Radar Shortstop Trade Targets
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
And we go back to the junk pile. Picking assets from the last place team allows us to have a last place team as well. Let's fill with what we have until Martin, Lee, Lewis step in. With luck that will not be long. Correa led us to 3rd place and a 481 percentage. With KC and Detroit still in the division I suspect we can get away with a patchwork for a while.- 34 replies
