  1. MVP might be tough, but let's hope he gets another $6-7 million plus $2 million for plate appearances!
  2. Drafting is hard, every team has more misses than hits, but I don't think that excuses the team from using a very high pick to choose a reliever and try to make him a starter. That's a great strategy for, say, a fourth-round pick. Given how hard drafting is, wouldn't someone with a real track record have been a better choice for a top-10 pick? Just explaining every mistake as "well, drafting is hard" ignores the possibility that even ignoring hindsight there were hundreds of players to choose from with that pick. What was special about Jay? A couple of very good seasons as a reliever, just like the career of an enormous number of failed starters.
  3. "At the time of the draft, there were reasons to be excited." You take a Big 10 reliever that early, you are going to excite people for all the wrong reasons. I was definitely excited, but in a very negative way.
  4. Personally, I hope the Twins get a hit tonight. National TV and all.
  5. Kyle DeBarge has 40 SB?? And it's in 41 attempts according to his Baseball Ref page. Fourth-highest total in the minors, far and away the best percentage among the leaders (and presumably everyone else with at least one caught stealing). Congrats!!
  6. I would add something here, but I’m using this current periodic of horrible Suckage as a time for a mental break, to reset myself.
  7. Over-under on hits, I’m setting 5. Whaddya got?
  8. He's been used entirely as a starter until then. Brought up for two games early this year, got shelled and sent back. He was brought up for just one game this time and immediately returned. Must have just been a huge temporary need by the Reds and he was the guy picked to fill in.
  9. Between the action on the field and Dan Gladden handling the radio booth all by himself, I quit listening early. Sometimes you just have to make the decision to save yourself, no one's going to help you out.
  10. Giants designated LaMonte Wade Jr for assignment.
  11. Well, enjoy yourself then. Judge Sano, judge me, judge anyone you like. Don’t forget to look inward once in a while, though.
  12. Not too long ago the Twins might have picked up Gibson now as a possible fifth starter.
  13. Weather's brutal again. I hope no one gets hurt.
  14. My own view is that this kind of "parody" isn't appropriately directed at anyone, star or not. Find something else to write about that's actually funny, like thinning out the ranch dressing.
  15. Nope, you’re right. I read the wrong game.
  16. It’s on Apple TV. I don’t think mlb.com gets to use that.
  17. And after 8 outs, Gore has 7 Ks. And 9 base runners.
  18. I definitely need a Union Laguna Cotton Workers jersey.
  19. Saturday night's game featured Adrian Johnson, befuddled by pitches that moved a little. He got 83.1% correct according to Umpire Auditor. 17 bad calls into the 6th inning, 13 of them going against the Twins. That's not complaining about the umpire, that's objectively measuring (though probably not perfectly) an umpire who had a really terrible night. If they routinely got over 95% correct, only missed pitches that were really close, and were at least as good or better in really important spots, I could live with that. They aren't there.
  20. Reminds me of Nick Burdi, along with some others. I wish him luck, whatever he decides.
  21. One report said the first baseman's elbow came in contact with some part of his head, but I didn't read anything suggesting that was the definitive cause. Good luck, Luis.
