With all due respect to other Pier's here I blame myself for not recognizing the warning signs of Twins fandom. I started counting the chickens before.... You know. I saw Jose Miranda's hit streak and started penciling him in for a batting crown... And now he's back in AAA. Last year I was dreaming of an ALCS series... Then we lose 16 out of the last 22. This year we had a 13 game win streak... Kody Clemens was raking along with Buck.... Now the team is up for sale and players are being shopped... Hopefully not for too much of a discount.... Who knows? Clearly I don't... As a Twin lifer you need to know the ceiling of expectations.... I let you all down. I need an intervention.

Brewers 17, Twins 6: Evisceration
Bad News TC Bears replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Feels like the rug gets pulled out from under my feet every time I get excited about things.... 13 wins in a row... Now this cruel theatre. There are a couple of guys having decent years... it almost feels like they deserve to be traded to reward them for their effort... But I don't want to see them win for another team... That would be another guy punch. Been a Twins fan my whole life and will always be one.... Can still remember listening to game 6 of the 1991 WS on the radio because our power was out. Love watching baseball... Probably partially because my high school didn't have a team and I would have liked to have that chance. Ended up playing some small college basketball instead. I hope the organization gets it figured out. Maybe they will catch lightning in a bottle one year... It's hard to compete with markets like NY and LA.- 51 replies

I personally like bunting in situations where there are no outs. You don't have to do it every time... Even faking a bunt and not committing can throw off the pitcher or put the defense on it's toes. When I watch Twins games I find myself yelling at the TV for it in vain... Perhaps old fundamental baseball is not sexy anymore?

I hope ownership doesn't take a gas can to this season... There are guys who are having a good year thus far and some that probably will play better towards the end of the season. I know a team looks better for selling if it is having a decent season. No reason to act like the owner from the movie Major League.

Good article.... His value isn't all in the numbers. Getting clutch hits and being reliable has value for his salary. After losing Carlos Santana from last season the loss isn't what you might expect. Santana is batting .231 with 6 hrs and probably playing gold glove first base.... France is .253 with 3 hrs and solid so far at first. He is also much younger and hopefully will hold up physically. Glad the Twins got him in the mix this year!

Yes I think betting as a manager and player is very bad... Most likely influencing decisions that had consequences on a game and also players getting used on days when they needed rest.... His defiance towards baseball hurt his chances because it showed a lack of respect for the commissioner. I still think he should be in the HOF... We don't know all the players that have cheated or done things against the game. Probably more than we'd like to know. I've been very critical of players during the steroid era and I think that is a different kind of low... Even though some of those guys would have been in the HOF if not implicated or honest about using. I'm sure there are Hall of Famer's who cheated in some way and didn't get caught.

I think what he did in betting as a manager is terrible..... But what he accomplished as a player is greatness! He should be in the Hall of Fame as a player. It's unfair to his family and former teammates to leave him out especially now that he has passed away. He didn't use steroids.... He only failed for being greedy as a manager / person. We all do things we wish we could get back and change... Rose regretted what he did ... Especially as he was older.

I think analytics are part of the whole picture but not something you should rely on entirely. Players returning from injury take time to readjust. We don't don't break the bank on high salary players... I think we do well for a small or mid market team. Wish the finances were better... What concerns me sometimes is the lack of small ball choices... Not bunting with one or two on and no outs? Am I crazy?

Edouard Julien and the Very Hard Game
Bad News TC Bears replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Edward Julian is another guy who shows flashes of good things.... Hopefully he'll get it all worked out. The Twins have had a decent number of guys that are trying to figure things out... Miranda, Martin, Festa, and other former players. Usually these guys leave and become stars elsewhere.... I.E Rooker, David Ortiz,.. etc. Hopefully things will eventually trend up... Right? Law of averages...... .. -
Seems like the curse right now is strong starting pitching, occasional good bullpen, then followed by gut wrenching offensive gymnastics. I.E. Lots of hits with a couple of runs... Exciting start only to throw up our themselves late in the game. I love watching some of the guys battle... But really this needs to be consistentcy throughout a game... Maybe somebody should care enough to get mad and throw a bunch of bats into the field or kick dirt on the ump like the good ole'days... Jack Morris, Dan Gladden, other old Twins wouldn't let teams dance on them........…….................

Some really good points already about analytics and metrics guiding decision making. I'm kinda old school.... Pitchers used to tell coaches to get back into the dugout and they would have to rip the ball out of my hand type of responses. It's a long season but sometimes you let the guy finish things... You wouldn't have Nolan Ryan or Greg Maddox leave a game like that because they wouldn't allow it.
