  1. I'm not sure what metrics suggest that Rosario could play average center field. Most show him to be average to below average in a corner spot. In fact, it would be a no brainer to trade him if anyone thought he was capable of average CF play, since his OPS as an average defensive centerfielder would have nearly every GM in baseball knocking on our door to trade for him.
  2. Also, Boshers is not a specialist. He SHOULD be, but unfortunately he's not used that way.
  3. No, it's not his fault, but the fact remains regardless. So long as they are keeping Molitor, they can't have a straight LOOGY on roster, because Molitor won't use him properly.
  4. That'd be great if he was used as a LOOGY, but he's not. Career. 803 OPS against RH hitters, whom he's faced 50% more than LH hitters this year.
  5. With those k and bb numbers I might not even have Littell in the top 15 to be honest. Be honest Seth, if he had the same numbers except w/l was 0-5 instead of 5-0 would he have won?
  6. No, not even close. He had 7.9 bWAR that year, which is a great year, but, just for perspective, Barry Bonds alone had 11 seasons with more BWAR than that. I'd doubt it would even come close to top 100.
  7. Really good article in Slate arguing that the government might be violating the constitution if they use DACA personal information to find and deport them. "Had DACA never existed, the government would have had to do gumshoe detective work to identify and apprehend DACA beneficiaries. It shouldn’t be spared that burden by virtue of having tricked those same immigrants with false promises of relief. To allow the government to perform such a bait and switch would be an outrageous form of entrapment that the Due Process Clause should prevent. "
  8. I'm not so sure the o line will be bad. I think, with 5 new guys (and 2 rookies), it'll take a few games to gel, but I think it will be substantially better than last year's version. Plus, Cook will be magnitudes better than anything they had in the run game last year, IMO.
  9. A defensive shift IS figuring out the batter.
  10. The Mets, 14 games back of the WC, plan to start Matt Harvey Wednesday, on short rest.
  11. I guess I don't understand what you guys are getting at. Does a player suddenly become off limits to criticism if they suffer a concussion? I never spent too much time debating the "why" behind the decline, because the "why" didn't really matter much when it came to my criticisms. (Money was never a criticism of mine. The contract was fair and necessary when offered. )
  12. Well the new guys hired a new hitting coach, for one. From the outside looking in, that move looks brilliant. Buxton, Polanco, and Rosario are carrying the team, and even Mauer is back to his old ways (almost). They've also done a lot of behind the scenes stuff, that may be helping the players and field staff be more prepared in game. Could just be bias, but it sure looks to me like everyone is much more situationally aware than they were last year.
  13. There is plenty of room in this rotation for competent back end starters, IMO. Even with an FA or two. Berrios is the only SP on roster that I have full confidence in for 2018. Santana has been good, but that could end at any moment.
  14. Yep, I said I would have pulled the trigger straight up for DeLeon. So far, it looks like I was wrong, by a mile. My only complaint is i still don't like him leading off.
  15. I admit, I've been very down on Gibson for a couple years now, even after 2015 when others we're convinced he'd turned a corner then. But, if he is the rare guy that finds something new at age 30, then obviously that's great for all involved. And, I'll be happy to eat crow if he has figured it out.
  16. So, back when we had a Vikings forum, I was continuously convinced that Boone was not just disappointing for the money, but solid (as some here, and especially the star Tribune beat writers kept insisting), but downright awful, and should be cut. I'm glad too see the team cut ties, despite the guaranteed money, that takes guts. 5 new o line starters from a year ago, incredible. Especially awaiting Mark Craig's assessment of the Boone cut, as he consistently mocked and belittled anyone who suggested Boone was no good, during his live chats last year.
  17. Houston didn't give up the prospects they did for depth in case a few starters get hurt.
  18. Yeah, new staff same preseason garbage. 17 points against Buffalo? That's pretty pathetic for anyone, let alone a team that has West title aspirations. The encouraging thing for me though, is that Fleck was openly disappointed and acknowledged that it wasn't good enough. Kill/Claeys would have been happy to win regardless of opponents skill level.
  19. We also have to remember that they have zero ties to the guys already in the system.
  20. Good catch on the age, not sure why I thought 28. Though he was only 29 yet when I last looked him up. That does change my opinion a bit. But I still think that's a bargain. Only once the last 6 years has he been with less than 20 million, and even that year he was worth about 15 million. Even if he can't quite sustain this year's numbers, he doesn't need to to be worth 22 million. He's going to be worth close to 50 million this year as is.
  21. 107 is his career low. He's going to be a 6 bWAR player this year, and you are telling me that is "just barely" worth 20 million? What evidence is there that he's starting his decline? He's only 28 years old.
  22. Why is it a massive risk if Upton doesn't opt out? IMO the risk is that he DOES opt out. He's a 28 year old with a .900 OPS, has never had an OPS+ under 107 in his career, and has a stellar record of health. That contract is a bargain, IMO.
  23. What is your reasoning on why Verlander wouldn't want to go to a division rival?
  24. Not to nitpick, but the deadline is actually 10:59.
  25. The Tigers system doesn't have nearly the depth ours does. This guy would be late teens at best in our system.
