  1. You have no way of knowing how many GM's would take which player. You said which is playing in your OF, not at DH, in which case, defense matters.
  2. But the one who "hasn't figured it out", is still producing more bWAR than the guy who is "already a force", which is my point. Yes, Rosario's improvement on offense is encouraging, but defense and baserunning count too, and Rosario is poor at both. If he can keep improving the offense into the high .800's, or even low .900's, than he can more than make up for the defense and baserunning. But as of now, he's barely doing that.
  3. Oops!
  4. Guy's like Vargas and Pressley have almost zero trade value. We also don't have a lot of the high ceiling type of prospects that teams move top talent for. Getting a guy like DeGrom would probably have to start with either Buxton, Sano, or Berrios.
  5. Twins have interviewed Bob Willis, and Jim Hickey for the open pitching coach position.
  6. 7 years, $116 million is the magic number that both sides can stomach, IMO.
  7. And even still, Kepler had a higher bWAR than Rosario and is 2 years younger. Kepler's defense and baserunning are so much better than Rosario's, that if he just figures out how to be poor, rather than awful against lefties, he's a 4+ WAR player. I'd keep Kepler over Rosario, and to me its not close. But, Kepler also probably brings back a lot more in a trade.
  8. I'd love to sign him to that deal, but can't imagine he'd sign that.
  9. Dropping 6 games, but also adding 2 teams results in a net gain, not loss.
  10. Interesting.
  11. Make it worth his while how? How do you know they didn't ask him if there was anything they could realistically do to get him to come here and he said no?
  12. Where did I claim, or even imply that the Twins operate differently? I dont think they can afford pitching AND the example Dozier extension, that's all. I prefaced it because otherwise someone would have eventually responded, "no salary cap in baseball", not because I was ripping the teams spending.
  13. The award isn't "most improved hitter" though. Rosarios defense got worse, and his baserunning is unacceptably bad.
  14. Mike was talking about paying up for legit #3 or #4 starters, not aces. Mike's fold the franchise comment was in response to someone dismissing FA completely as an avenue to improving the pitching.
  15. Have you seen Ervin's playoff performances? He crumbles spectacularly under the postseason lights. A team with 5 Ervin Santana's would likely do well during the regular season, but would be swept out of the first round every year.
  16. Ok. Well those revenues are estimates, baseball teams don't disclose revenue. But, it's as good of data as there is ever going to be available, so fair enough, I concede that point.
  17. Do you have any objective data to back any of that up? The Twins have had payrolls recently that appear to rank lower than their market size suggests it should, if all teams are spending the same %. You also didn't address my point. Regardless of why, they are capped on what they can spend. IMO they need to add high end pitching, and I'm not sure they can do that AND pay Dozier.
  18. Like it or not, the Twins operate under a self imposed salary cap. This club needs pitching, and pitching is expensive. It's hard to imagine a scenario where this extension doesn't interfere with purchasing pitching. It's not as black and white as simply wanting him to stay or not.
  19. Busenitz had a 4.20 FIP, 6-7 k/9, meh.
  20. I was legitimately asking, not commentating. 96 would not be soft tossing, no. Does any of those guys throw 96? My first thought upon those names was that all four were low K rate guys, but I didn't look it up to confirm, so I asked instead.
  21. Aren't those all soft tossing, PTC types?
  22. Wasn't Romero already shut down by the time rosters expanded in September?
  23. Trying to remember where I was in my career at age 27. Nowhere near where this guy is, wow. Congrats to him and wish him success.
  24. And that extension didn't even start until 2017. So they got Longoria's first 9 years for 47.5 million. That first contract, which was a bargain for TB, has nothing to do with the extension, so I'm not sure why you are bringing it up.
