  1. 1) There is no such thing as a human that USED to have back problems. That's a life sentence. 2) Under no circumstances where were the Wild ever going to get any value out of the last few years of that contract. Like North was getting at, they made a deal with the devil and time is running out.
  2. Rosario has a .220 higher OPS for his career at Target Field, and .300 higher this year. Target Field isn't hurting his numbers at all, in fact he's pretty bad everywhere else.
  3. Yarn cited 6/1 through 8/17, not through current. The reason being, and I agree with him, is that people are trying to say that since his COMBINED numbers are good from June 1, that means he's turned it around from June 1 onward. In actuality, he was still pretty bad from June 1 to mid August, and THEN has been really good since.
  4. What does this mean?
  5. Kyle Gibson didn't qualify last year, and likely won't this year either. When I said qualifier, I meant drv's criteria of 250ip the last 2 years.
  6. Why? It doesn't sound like he's disputing that Mauer has played well defensively.
  7. It's not 77th best in baseball though. It's 77th out of only 87 that meet the qualifier. That's the bottom 11%.
  8. Concur. The best around, hands down, bar none. Thanks guys.
  9. It's September. If the FO wanted, they could both be up here. Vargas has nothing to do with Palka not being up here. Vargas is actually a positive WAR player this year, he leaves a lot to be desired, but he doesn't really hurt you. Palka's AAA numbers would probably translate to a high .600's OPS at mlb, at best. If the FO thought he could help, he'd be here.
  10. Another thing that seems logical, but do we have any imperical evidence? Are there any studies showing that players are worse if they play more games?
  11. Ok but the question that sparked this debate was why Palka isn't up here. Not knowing if Palka is bad is not in any way a reason to bring him up. There are legitimate reasons why Palka isn't up here, so I'm still not sure how this turned into Palka vs. Vargas. They are not in any way relevant towards each other.
  12. WAR is a counting stat, so any above average starting pitcher who stays healthy for the full season is likely going to crack the top 30 in WAR for that individual season. That may make them one of the 30 "most valuable" pitchers that year, but is that the same as actually being one of the 30 best? Maybe it does, I'm just thinking out loud. If Pedro misses 15 starts, and his counting stats suffer, he's still one of the best in baseball, IMO, despite fWAR disagreeing. (That's just a hypothetical BTW. Then again, staying healthy is a valuable skill, so we should credit that. I'm not sure, but yeah Radke was really good, and underrated.
  13. I'm not sure he is a better prospect anymore (better than when aBW was cut) after this season. Plus aBW was a full year younger, and was only claimed so that he could be waived again right away. Again, just my opinion, we'll see.
  14. Is "post season tested" even a thing that matters? I don't know. I have a feeling it is one of those things that sounds logical so everyone just goes with it. Do we have any evidence that teams with more playoff experience perform better, compared to their skill level, than teams without? If we do have statistical, not anecdotal, evidence of that, I'd love to read it.
  15. He doesn't have to be on the 40 man roster to have a bounce back season. I'd expect he'd clear waivers given his age, position, poor defense, and AAA numbers.
  16. I'm not sure what any of that has to do with what I posted. I didn't call for his execution, I simply gave a valid reason why he's not getting a September call up. Regardless of the "why" behind his poor performance, the numbers don't show a player who is going to help the club. For example, if he's putting up poor numbers because he's playing hurt, then you wouldn't want him up here trying to get his feet wet while injured. I'm also not sure what Vargas has to do with Palka. Vargas is a switch hitter and they don't even play the same position. As to the no longer a prospect comment, I clearly stated that was my opinion. I'm not required to cut him any slack for my opinion. If he was playing injured, then sure that might change my opinion, but is there any evidence that he was? Just because he also missed time with an injury, doesn't mean he wasn't healthy when he did play.
  17. Probably the sub .760 OPS in AAA from a soon to be 26 year old corner outfielder. I'd guess he'll be removed from the 40 man roster after the season, he's no longer a prospect, IMO.
  18. I've worked around a bunch of very wealthy dudes, and every single one of them still loved getting free stuff, whether they "need" it or not. I don't care if Perkins has $10 million or $10 billion, he's still going to want as many free benefits as he can get.
  19. If they were expecting any contribution from Perkins then I have serious questions about their judgement.
  20. Ha, no, my name is a reference to the great Herb Brooks.
  21. Can someone explain the Smith/Brooks usage? To my untrained eye, Brooks looks like the vastly superior runner, but they just keep giving it to Smith over and over instead of Brooks. What am I missing here?
  22. Mejia threw 73 pitches in his last rehab start. He's fully stretched out to start.
  23. With just a 50% success rate, may I ask what possible upside there is in that strategy?
  24. He's (Palka) got a .759 OPS, in AAA as a corner OF'er who turns 26 next month. He has no business on the mlb roster during a playoff push, and I have to imagine he'll be removed from the 40 man during the off-season. His upside looks like career AAAA player at this point.
  25. Why are you tolerant of Rosario trying to steal? Is it because he has decent speed so he must automatically be able to steal? He's 8/16 on the season. Those 8 caught stealing, BTW, lead all of baseball! And for his career he's 24/40, just awful. Him trying to steal, not once but twice, against Perez, is inexcusable.
