  1. They really don't. Especially when he's proven pretty inept at every defensive position he's been placed. Maybe 2B will get better and he's no longer a liability defensively at some point. Until then, he is not even a replacement level MLB player. This is certainly possible, but has nothing to do with Martin and everything to do with their organization wide inability to field a 2B. Eventually, SOMEONE must step up. But I'll bet money against it being Martin.
  2. One down year? Alright, I better not see you with any high hopes for Royce then. And I don't really disagree with you about Miranda having better odds of being a good hitter. But...that's actually chasing the floor which you're so opposed to. Miranda is still going to get plenty of playing time and there's no guarantee Ty France is even on the roster come April. So...who really cares about the Twins doing what you want and chasing a high risk upside. Stranger things have happened?
  3. Which makes this a fine deal, and makes anyone overreacting look ridiculous...
  4. Bader in CF cause Buxton is hurt. Or Larnach is hurt. Or Wallner is hurt. Or Mirana is hurt. Or Wallner's K rate blew up to 50% again and they sent him down to AAA to get right again. Etc etc. Seriously, have you guys never watched MLB before? There's never ONE set lineup.
  5. This is confusing to me. Because this is, to me, not a floor move at all. They're taking a chance on a high upside. We can disagree with them on that but Ty France was, at his best, better than Miranda has ever shown.
  6. Not necessarily done, but there's no real use for him on a team with Willi Castro. He has no upside with the bat and we know he can't play the OF. So he's at best a slappy 2B/3B/PR. A fine guy to keep on the 40 man roster and move up and down as needed in the bigs but I don't care in the least that he's losing playing time. In fact, it pleases me.
  7. No real harm in making two bad players compete for a job.
  8. Martin was given a huge chance last season and he sucked it up.
  9. Well, Ty France sucks. But it looked like the Twins were breaking camp with either Austin Martin or Micky Gasper on the roster. And they also suck. So now there's more competition for players to be the player that sucks the least?
  10. Especially when one of the singings was objectively good...
  11. Margot wasn't a failure because he sucked at the plate. Margot was a failure because he couldn't play defense. This is just a foolish way to look at how rosters are constructed. Is Vazquez rostered to keep Jeffers shackled?
  12. I mean, this is entirely fair criticism of the Front Office. I am a fan of the Mets first and foremost. While they were happy with Bader last year, they replaced him by trading a nobody reliever for a very similar player (better defense, worse offense). Obviously that option was open to the Twins too. And there are a handful of people around the league that fit that mold. I've been saying Falvey should be fired for a while. So you're not going to get pushback from me there. But I also think signing Bader was good and criticism of that move in particular isn't at all warranted.
  13. I just don't understand this Twins fan desire to constantly save the Pohlads money while wanting to rotate through terrible players instead.
  14. I understand the frustration that the Twins have failed to develop a competent Buxton backup, but they have failed. And so have a lot of teams have. The internal pre-arb guy with an 85 OPS+ isn't nearly as good as Bader because none of them can play the position nearly as well. Yeah, it would be incredible if the Twins could develop a 100 OPS+ CF with plus defense. But that's a 4 WAR player. So, let's be reasonable. If I could wave a wand and make Austin Martin not suck in CF, that'd be incredible. But that's not happening.
  15. Half of your players should be making the minimum or players like bullpen arms that are around the minimum. Let's say $15M for half your roster (Twins are actually under that at about $12.5 I think). Even with a modest $145M Payroll, that's $10M per non arb or near min player. Would it be preferable to be able to develop a great glove 85 OPS+ guy? Sure, and they thought they might have that with Austin Martin but unfortunately he sucks. As do/would all the other internal options. So a very necessary 4th OF that you expect to play 100+ games making 6.25M is not some travesty. And in the event the Twins fall out of contention, they can easily trade him away.
  16. Jenkins is the only one that I think is smart to entertain this sort of deal. Offer him he Chourio contract as soon as he seems like he's figured out AA.
  17. It's not the Twins Process that makes Bader necessary. Byron Buxton not being able to play more than 55% of a season makes Bader necessary. Trevor Larnach, Matt Wallner, and Austin Martin all being incapable of playing a competent OF make Bader necessary. I also think everyone here is just completely out of touch with what players make. $6.25 M for a player that is expected to play something like 100 games and 400 PAs, even with only about 1 WAR, is a fair price.
  18. Can you imagine if the new owners tried to literally kill the franchise for a quick buck? Thank god for the Pohlads 🙏
  19. Technically it's another $8.5 on top of the $6.25 he's guaranteed. The disadvantage is Helman's a much worse player. Essentially worthless, as we saw in his recent trade. If you value roster flexibility over baseball ability the White Sox also started spring training this week.
  20. The thing is...that's 100+ games on this team. 70+ filling in for Buxton 15+ making starts against LHP while Buxton is healthy 15+ coming in as defensive replacement, PR and PH in event Larnach and/or Wallner don't show any improvement against LHP And that's not even counting any playing time in event Larnach or Wallner are hurt or benched.
  21. It's certainly implied by the many, many comments I've seen about all the young talent being "blocked". Blocked, just like Austin Martin last season (and thank god HE got a chance).
  22. I don't know why a team should care about the feelings of a handful of too online fans that don't know ball.
  23. B-b-but no roster spot has ever opened up on a major league team. I've never seen someone demoted or placed on the IL.
  24. As someone that watched quite a bit of both Bader and Austin Martin last season...you guys are very, very wrong.
