  1. Anyone still looking at Saves in the age of WPA and the derivatives Shutdowns/Meltdowns is a dinosaur. But you pose good questions. Whose decision was it to keep Margot? Was it the Front Office? But Rocco kept playing him, so was it his? Were both of them incompetent and to blame? We'll never know.
  2. People here are obsessed with his arm, but he's such a lousy OF they should consider giving Wallner reps there in Spring Training. Maybe he'd take to it.
  3. Quite simply, if the offense of players like Lewis and Miranda doesn't bounce back, this team isn't being saved by Randal Grichuk. And if the offense does bounce back, that additional marginal offense of Grichuk isn't really worth all that much. You people that are so mad the Twins didn't sign an offensive powerhouse like Grichuk know that his career ops+ is 104, right?
  4. Padres reportedly want three top prospects for cease and you're trying to throw junk at them.
  5. Willi Castro was the 5th OF and still played 59 games. Everyone is just assuming Rodriguez and Keaschall will be major league ready come May 1st. In reality, there's a great chance neither show they're ready until August, if ever. We could easily be talking in two years ahout them like people do Julien. Especially Rodriguez, considering they seemingly have the same approach at the plate.
  6. Having followed the Mets last year very closely...this is complete bull ****.
  7. Maybe they're just holding him for a bit until the can put him back on the 60. Opens in a few weeks!
  8. The thing is...Keirsey isn't even an actual prospect! He's just some replacement level AAA player.
  9. Cool. Here's some for the guys he's taking playing time away from: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=7d62d974-e14d-4cd6-a2c1-45744caeed2c https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=f05b0b55-2924-4a34-af8b-71448cca82df https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-videos?playId=2fb5197b-ac56-4c8f-b63a-12b690818893
  10. About as well as a bunch of other guys that aren't really anything more than replacement level players. Guys like Dominic Fletcher.
  11. It's not like he truly earned playing time in the majors. He hit pretty well in AAA, with a 119 RC+. But the fact of the matter is, so do plenty of people you can pick up off the waiver wire at any given point of the season (Andrew Stevenson?). Keirsey could have also earned time by being a great defender, unfortunately his glove is reportedly...serviceable. I feel bad for the guy, but it's not like he's getting screwed. Last season, I would agree that the Twins really screwed up by refusing to DFA Manuel Margot and giving him a chance to play. But not because he was good, but because Margot should have been DFAd in April as soon as Rocco realized he could not play a decent CF. But as for his career, Keirsey had to either hit more or field better in order to become a proper major leaguer. That's just his sad fate. AAAA player.
  12. Correct, thinking that all of Lewis, Julien, Miranda, Julien, and Martin will be both healthy and good is just not how things work. Same as people so concerned that Bader is blocking Rodriguez. If they're "blocked" that means that literally every position player on the team is performing above the highest of expectations.
  13. Yep, and I think if he actually did have a great glove he would have a chance at playing time. But no one seems to believe he has anything but an adequate glove in CF.
  14. The man hit 12 HRs last year (same as Bader) and you think he could have hit 29 this year? He's 33 years old and has averaged a 101 OPS+ the last 4 seasons and his zips woba projection is 308, and you want to hire him, essentially, as a bat only player? I understand he's an archetype and you want a more reliable bat instead of a defense first player, and even if I disagree with that sentiment I feel the need to point out that none of these players got paid big money because none of them ARE reliable bats. Jesse Winker is perhaps the only bat first OF that is somewhat reliable and he got paid more than Bader for that reason.
  15. Great. What you're talking about is a cup of coffee when someone above him on the depth chart gets injured. He can still do that. He should not be depended on to be a 4th OF that is expected to play 100 games with 350-400 PAs. Not unless you're punting on the season.
  16. Will Holland is not happening. He's probably not even a AAAA player, much less Majors. Eeles is, and should be, much higher up the Depth Chart.
  17. I think you guys just need to come to understand that is an entirely fair market value and not at all an overpay for a player like Bader. For the same reason Correa's $37 million is not actually an overpay and Pete Alonso struggled to get $30M. Bader received 4 million less than last season and the other OF free agents were paid less because they don't play a premium position and certainly don't play it well.
  18. Only Twins Daily Fans would worry about blocking a 28 year old non prospect. People were saying this about Michael Helman too and now that he was just traded we know that his value was...a little bit of cash. And the same can be said for Keirsey.
  19. As far as I know we don't know what the incentives even are. So that would be foolish to try. If he gets a million dollars for MVP votes or a gold glove would you, or the Twins, really be all that disappointed if he got the extra cash? Harrison Bader was the only premium OF defender on the Free Agency market. So the answer to your question is no one.
  20. The Twins FIP was 7th in the league last year. Their ERA was 21st. Impossible to assign blame for the reasons, but defense is a contributor. Not only that, but their defense had gotten much, much worse this offseason, particularly in the OF. I was extremely worried about an OF defense of Larnach-Buxton-Wallner, with a 4th OF of Austin Martin? Considering Buxton is missing half the season, that had the potential for the worst OF defense in the league. Pair that with one of the highest FB pitching staffs in the league and bad things were apparent. Harrison Bader was THE smartest use of resources possible on February 5th. Squabble about the decisions that have led to this point all you want, but that's all history and sunk cost.
  21. This is the funniest thing. The Twins have spent less than $10 M on FA this offseason, and only $45 M in player investment total, 24th in baseball and last in the AL Central. Yet many fans here are working out napkin math in order to save the billionaires a few dollars on the margins. All based on vague comments about payroll. I can't imagine fretting this much about money in another entertainment industry. 'Denis Villenueve cast Anya Taylor Joy for a cameo?! What does this mean for the sound department?! WB have to fire Austin Butler, they can't afford his fee now.'
  22. Yes. He was a valuable player as the 4th OF in the playoffs. Less because he wasn't good - he's exactly who everyone thinks he is - but more because the 4th OF Tyrone Taylor had played himself into the starting role. There's not a single Mets fan that would have been mad for him to come back, and his replacement is just a better fielding lesser hitting player of the same archetype. But that's as a starter, not the 4th OF which is almost certainly what Baders role is with the Twins.
  23. Wasn't the money. And you guys would have jumped out a window if Falvey brought in Siri. Anyone mad about Bader, quite frankly, don't know ball.
  24. They decided to make a better deal, trading a Scott Blewett type for a Harrison Bader type. David Stearns is the man. I'd say it's pretty fair to say Harrison Bader is a better hitter and worse defender than Jose Siri. Mets fans are happy with Siri and were very happy with Bader. Sad that Mets fans have lesser standards than the mighty Twins.
