  1. When those cheaper guys are Nick Gordon, DaShawn Keirsey and Austin Martin it becomes entirely reasonable to stick with the underperforming guys.
  2. If you're not making marginal improvements, nor spending big money, you're rebuilding.
  3. I also want the Twins to spend hundreds of millions of dollars. I have been hating on the Pohalds, Falveys, and Rocco my entire time here. I'm just not so deranged enough to think that improving the team is bad actually.
  4. If your barometer is "is this player good enough to be on the Steve Cohen Mets" then you should be hating on about 2/3 of the Twins.
  5. Are you under the impression that a team should play bad players instead of better players just because they're cheaper? Oh no. The Twins hired the player that ended the season as the valuable 4th OF for arguably the second best team in the league. What a terrible turn of events! Let's say the Twins didn't completely choke...who do you think was going to start more in the playoffs? 2023 hints towards the answer!
  6. Martin sucks, which is why he dropped off of top 100 prospect lists before he debuted and why failed to show any real skill in the major leagues. And Wallner was handed a starting job at the start of the season and proceeded to strike out in half his at bats. Yeah, he was kept down in AAA for a few weeks longer than he otherwise would have in AAA but he played himself into becoming the starter, thus proving he wasn't blocked.
  7. Instead they should have played Nick Gordon...
  8. OK. I don't agree that's it's useless, but it's clearly a shorthanded way of conveying a player's value. We can go through the specifics if you'd like. I know everyone hates Joey Gallo, but he did have a 300 OBP and 440 SLG while playing decent defense at 4 different positions so it's not difficult to understand why it portrays him as a positive value player, despite that massive K rate being no fun to watch. And did he really block anyone? Larnach a little bit, but Larnach was in his third season in the majors and wasn't performing. Wallner a little bit, but Wallner was an everyday starter the entirety of the second half essentially, so how much was he blocked? Pagan pitched 130 innings with a 1.149 WHIP so it's not hard to see value there. And Simmons is perhaps the best defensive SS in history, so it's not to imagine value there. And who was HE blocking? Nick Gordon? If we're being rational, Manuel Margot similarly wasn't really truly blocking anyone either, even if I do feel bad that Keirsey didn't get a true big league opportunity. I think we all agree that he deserved it more than Margot. But are we supposed to believe that they would have kept Margot over a player like Jenkins had he shown he was ready for a chance in the show? So, no I'm not at all worried about this front office holding onto a valuable major leaguer longer than the curmudgeon armchair GMs of Twins Daily would personally like.
  9. 0.5 WAR 1.0 WAR 1.5 WAR These aren't really disasters, and unless you can point to players that were blocked because of these decent players, you're kind of proving my point.
  10. If one of the catchers is clearly the top of the depth chart, how is it ridiculous to point out the other guy is second? If you want to be pedantic and say 'actually he's 1b'...ok. He's still the #2 catcher.
  11. Oh, idk, maybe the 2024 opening day lineup? Or how about the 2023 playoff lineups? Do those count?
  12. Yeah. Totally. We all love to get mad that the GM won't cut a player before they've played a single inning.
  13. That's not remotely true. With Austin Martin, for example, he sucked everywhere so they kept moving him trying to find him a home.
  14. '..that being said I just know in my heart that the Twins will never cut him when he inevitably sucks' Subtext is all there. Based on Manuel Margot, you're assuming that there is no lengths that the Twins won't go to in order to keep a player you believe will suck (without good reason). You've all apparently convinced yourself that Rodriguez is blocked all season due to the presence of a 4th OF that makes more than the league minimum.
  15. Absolutely ridiculous for anyone to say the second catcher on the depth chart is the #2 catcher. Anyone that thinks that is stupid.
  16. How dare I suggest the Twins #2 catcher is the Twins #2 catcher. I must be an idiot.
  17. Martin. Great. Can't wait to see him fail at one final position before he's sent back to the minors for good. I just don't see what Martin excels at. His defense wasn't great at 2B but that was in limited time, so maybe that's his calling and his position. But ultimately, the other 3 guys competing for 2B all seem to be better baseball players than him. The only reason Martin is in the discussion is because he was a first round draft pick. To me, he's third in line for the job. AAA peripherals BB% K% ISO BABIP Eeles 12.7% 14.6% 0.201 0.331 Lee 8.9% 15.6% 0.234 0.275 Martin 16.8% 15.2% 0.120 0.315 Julien 19.4% 28.5% 0.182 0.371
  18. Clever, if the Mets didn't replace him with a near identical archetype, as the starting CF no less. But not everyone can be as picky and choosey as those high and mighty Twins.
  19. No, probably not. Everyone here has been throwing out wild and dumb ideas about how to get rid of the salaries of Paddack and Vazquez but the fact is, other teams view those contracts the same as the Twins. Why would THEY want them? Nick Pavetta is still a free agent and you think a team wants to trade for the pleasure of paying Paddack? Jose Quintana pitched two great outings in the NL playoffs and still doesn't have a home. But let's say you even did get a team to take Paddack on and signed, for example, Michael Conforto. Ok. You still need a 4th OF. You still need a 1B, unless you're now throwing Larnach or Wallner into that competition and calling it good. And you're now down an arm, albeit an entirely unreliable one. Is that really a better team?
  20. Like I said, you're already wanting to cut Bader.
  21. It's February 12th and Twins "fans" are already trying to DFA a bona fide major leaguer because they don't like how much money he makes. Looking at the depth chart, you'd have to have zero understanding of the game of baseball to think he should be dislodged. Manuel Margot had no bigger hater than myself. But y'all have been so scarred by him that you've become delusional.
  22. I just don't even know what you or others mean by "floor setting" anymore. Does that just mean short term deal? Because after it's been used to describe every single Twins veteran player they brought in it obviously doesn't mean low risk low reward.
  23. They both suck, but somehow even Margot was better in the field so I understand it to some degree. But yeah, I agree with you. The fact that they even broke camp with Margot after he showed Rocco he couldn't play CF was a failure. Don't know who's more to blame, Front Office or Rocco, but the teams leadership and decision making clearly sucks. Keirsey could play at a minimum a competent CF and should have gotten more than the 3 games or whatever it is he got last season.
  24. Complete hogwash. You think the Twins didn't try to give him instruction in his time with the organization? Are you under the impression coaches aren't present in the minors? And completely glosses over the fact that he also sucked in LF. He's not an OF. Nothing wrong with that, but that means he's running out of options. It's 2B or bust for him at this point.
