  1. The league intentionally changed rules to increase stolen bases. It's not because of some league wide indifference. And the Twins gave up fewer stolen bases than 2/3 of the league and still about middle of the pack this year.
  2. I can agree with your criticism of pitchers being unable to hold runners. But you've been making this complaint constantly and there's no evidence that I've seen that this hurts the pop time or ability for catchers to throw out runners. In fact I've seen claims to the contrary. 90% of catching league wide uses this method because every baseball team has concluded there's limited drawbacks that are outweighed by the benefits.
  3. I heard that too. Just pure dogshit analysis. Sure, if the change up was a competitive pitch and forced the batter to take or foul off, that commentary makes sense. But the change was in the dirt, not even challenging the hitter. Everyone knew he would immediately go back to the fastball and he threw it right down the middle. Terrible sequence. Terrible pitching. Terrible commentary. #TwinsBaseball
  4. They're not wrong. A new owner would be dumb not to clean house. In my mind, mediocrity, and the aspiration for it, is most evident in baseball. Maybe that is because it's the only sport without a salary cap, therefore all personnel decisions are only restricted by imagination. The Twins have rarely, if ever, actually attempted to put together a championship team in my life. They've almost always rather just had the goal of winning the worst division in baseball. And Twins fans have become wise to the con.
  5. New Owners: You can't take it with you, and your idiot children are going to prove to be failsons, unworthy of the obscene wealth you intend on leaving them, just like nearly all obscenely wealthy children prove to be.
  6. Well, the Twins went 17-2 against the White Sox and Angels last season. And everything was smooth sailing after that I think.
  7. A nice reminder that as incompetent as the Minnesota boys of summer become they're nowhere near as embarrassing as the Minnesota boy leading the DoD.
  8. A. They effectively do, as a free agent acquisition cannot be optioned. Meaning high payroll teams have less roster flexibility than a team filled with a bunch of pre-arb guys. B. When did people start calling teams high/low revenue? Seems a very poor descriptor since the team has a say in that. Twins are low revenue right now because they are a terrible organization and no one wants to watch them. Whereas they could be a high revenue team if they ever got their **** together.
  9. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Large criticism I've seen here is Rocco doesn't get multiple innings out of his pitchers, but when he does with a pitcher on 4 days rest suddenly he's risking injury.
  10. Speaking on behalf of all Mets fans...no thank you.
  11. He'd have to turn it around significantly, but the contract is not really a hinderance for either of those teams. 4 yrs/$133 M not all that different than the 7 yr/ 180M that Adames received. It's a fair market contract IF he shows he isn't fully a lemon now. There'd be little to no return though. No top 50 prospect coming the Twins way.
  12. No team will ever be able to depend on Royce. Any team that rosters him will have to also roster a solid, every-day caliber, player as his backup much like Buxton. And quite honestly, he's talked himself from one of my favorite players to one of my least favorite. There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance and Royce seems to have sprinted over that line (before he predictably pulled up with an injury that will sideline him for 6-8 weeks).
  13. Yankees could use a 3B and Correa would waive a NTC for sure. If the Braves get their act together, they could also be a suitor to fill a weak SS spot. Maybe the Tigers decide this is their time and Trey Sweeney just isn't the guy.
  14. This is absolutely true. And another reason why Rocco and Falvey should be fired. But anyone that criticized adding Bader because Keirsey could fill that role was begging for 100 losses. Which, turns out, they might achieve anyways.
  15. I don't have any hope this team turns it around, so my only rooting interest is now the attendance and seeing how low it can go. Side Note: Twins have already lost more games to the White Sox this season than last.
  16. They've also been an average of 87 win team over the last 5 seasons (including this season's pace). I don't think any of the fans selling out their home games are concerned with their payroll obligations in three season while they're looking like the best team in the league right now. I repeat, no objective baseball fan would prefer to cheer for the Twins over the Padres in this moment. To point to them as some poorly managed franchise is just asinine. Edit: I'll add, Boegarts is the one contract I was referring to that is just plain bad. The Machado contract can become bad in time, but for now it's fine. But the Musgrove, Darvish, and Cronenworth contracts are all fine. Nothing prohibitive. The Darvish one might even look great in one more year.
  17. Is this tracked somewhere? Or did you just do some napkin math?
  18. I don't agree at all. For example, Jackson Merrill was the 27th selection in the draft. Their turnaround is more so because their owner decided he was wealthy and didn't care to use the franchise as an investment tool. And you can argue this revelation is because he was sick and is sadly no longer with us, but he's now revered in San Diego, in stark contrast to the Pohlads. I can assure you no objective baseball fan would prefer to cheer for the Twins over the Padres. And this idea you're suggesting, as if they're in a last year of a window is just not reality. The Padres only have one bad contract on their books. Their future looks much brighter than the Twins if we're being honest. And part of the reason for that is the team went for it, and fans rewarded them and are throwing money at the organization. They are one of 3 teams you can say are great, today. This is just a foolish thing to say about a team with Jackson Merrill (22) and Fernando Tatis (26). Teams would kill for a core like that to build around.
  19. Yeah. It's a complete lost year because they organization is basically without leadership. The only reason Rocco and the entire Front Office wasn't fired after last season is because they figured they'd just allow new ownership to come in and put their people in place. But now that the sale is delayed, and no longer imminent, this organization is basically circling the drain. Until the team is sold there's no reason for any sort of optimism in Twins Territory. Attendance will be it's lowest since the Bill Clinton administration, and rightfully so.
  20. You don't want to bring in any veterans...what else am I supposed to take away from that?
  21. I'm glad we agree on sentence #3. But as for hiring veterans, you're just flat out wrong dude. If you truly believe a team should be able to develop all 40 players on the roster, you'll always, and I mean always, be disappointed.
  22. Don't forget San Diego. The Padres are arguably the best team in the league. It's a very comparable market as well.
  23. I think we're also under selling just how much some of the smaller markets troubles come down to incompetence. Minnesota. Pittsburgh. These are not well run organizations. There are comparable markets that are earning good money and fielding competitive teams, and not due to luck or miracles. This idea that mlb is an unfair environment in which no one can compete with the Dodgers just isn't reality. Though I do agree that it has gotten worse and further revenue sharing, at a minimum, is needed.
  24. Teams aren't getting a salary cap without giving up half of their 6 years of control. If you're going to artificially suppress player salaries in free agency, why would the players be ok with 6 years of salary suppression leading into it?
