  1. I can't wait for Keirsey to further show why the Twins didn't need Bader.
  2. Gasper can't play 2B. The reason Gasper isn't a major leaguer is he can't really play anywhere.
  3. I'm mostly struck by how shallow this team was originally constructed. The team, especially in position players, is relatively healthy. Bride and Clemens are both waiver pick up. And yet, both are safe on the current roster due to there being absolutely no one fighting for their jobs.
  4. If the premise of an argument is fully flawed but arrives at an ok decision, I can still completely agree with the decision making process that was made.
  5. 100% disagree. Specifically with your comment that you likely only need one run in the top of the tenth. You should always expect the bottom to score the free runner. I don't necessarily disagree with the idea of bunting with Vazquez, though, given his inability to hit.
  6. As a seller there's only a limited amount of damage you can possibly do.
  7. I don't think it's necessary to trade Duran. But I think considering he's due 7.5 million or more next season, and looking at what the Marlins received in exchange for Tanner Scott — especially in comparison to what the Brewers received for Devin Williams — I think exploring his trade market would be very wise. Larnach is just one of those fringe players I don't really like. Terrible defense. Bad baserunner. Decent but unremarkable hitter. Can't hit lefties. Due basically market rate next season. But we also have a fairly decent comp from last trade deadline in Jesse Winker who returned a mediocre AA SP prospect. Meh.
  8. Should probably be talking about selling instead. This team isn't a piece or two from being a contender. But they do have a lot of pieces that could be moved: Duran Coulombe Bader Paddack Topa Larnach Stewart France Castro Vazquez I'm way more intrigued by doing a small reset, largely with the bullpen, building up the system a little bit, and trying again next season (with a new owner?!). In reality, they'll likely trade for some Lane Thomas type of OF, call it a day, and then act surprised that 82 wins wasn't enough to make the playoffs.
  9. Keep championing a washed loser. Really want the 50th best pitcher in Japan and notorious clubhouse cancer on the Twins. That'd really do well for their Public Relations.
  10. He was also investigated in an internal, non-criminal investigation that resulted in a 2 year ban (reduced to 140+ games by an arbiter) that all teams have access to and we do not. This, a league, that still happily employs Aroldis Chapman (30 day suspension) and Marcell Ozuna (20 game suspension). He's a world class ****** person, even for a league scattered with ****** people.
  11. Hitting philosophy, and then pitch framing on the other side. As for robo umps, I think I'm ok with it as it was implemented in Spring Training. A quick and easy way for batters to second guess the umpire. There's only been two games in the statcast era where an umpire had a perfect game. Every single umpire is going to miss calls. However, as I smiled watched those waymos burning this week, I was reminded how I don't want robots to take anything over. It's a tool I'm comfortable using, but miss me with any sort of idea of full time automated balls and strikes system.
  12. Trevor Bauer not only sucks as a human, he sucks as a pitcher. May as well sign Curt Schilling if you want to ruin your team's clubhouse with a washed pitcher.
  13. Still too late to stretch out Jax as a starter? Seriously think that was a huge error not to even entertain the idea in Spring Training.
  14. Aah. Thank you for the correction. I still think the fact we've not heard any updates means we shouldn't anticipate him to rehab anytime soon. And I'd expect him to do time in Florida before going to AAA. I'll take the over on ASB.
  15. He's on the 60 Day so he's not eligible to start rehab until late June. And then given we're running up against the all star break soon after, the earliest anyone should expect to see him back in the majors is July 18th, and that's if everything goes well.
  16. As I said, the 4th OF on any major league baseball team IS significant playing time. So that doesn't mean anything to me. Especially considering Bader has never had 450 PAs in his career. So that player saying he expects significant playing time means 400-450 PAs to me. 4th OF are very important which is why Bader was always a great signing. And now his role has increased since Larnach/Wallner are able to be hidden as a DH regularly with the failures of both Miranda and Julien.
  17. You can say this. But you're only guessing. I on the other hand would point to him getting work in RF as to why that's wrong. You don't hear about many players locked into the first spot on the Depth Chart told to get work at a different position in Spring Training. What's more likely is he was signed as the 4th OF which tend to play a lot in all three positions even with the best of rosters. And he worked well as an insurance policy in the event there were even a small amount of injuries or ineptitude, which is the case, allowing the Twins to use Larnach as a DH instead of Julien or Miranda which was the initial plan at the opening of the season. Quite honestly though, 4th OF is a vital position of depth. Look at last season in the AL Central alone: Wenceel Perez - 4th most PAs for the Tigers Garret Hampson - 113 games for the Royals and who can forget the infamous Margot, with his team leading 113 appearances in the OF as the 4th OF
  18. He's perhaps very slightly improved this season against lefties, but he's still really bad. Here are his splits this year: v LHP: 5.3% BB / 28.1% K / .211 wOBA v RHP: 8.9% BB / 19.7% K/ .354 wOBA He's a fine player, worthy of 500+ PAs but he shouldn't start against LHP and and should get PH for in high leverage ABs against LHP.
  19. Yeah. Not a surprise. Still think he's good enough that he should be getting a bulk of the starts at 2B, but I'm not really a B-Lee-ver so I get why others would prefer to see Lee get a bulk of the playing time there instead.
  20. Yes, but that's really minimizing the importance of a 4th OF. Like you said, a 4th OF is going to get a lot of playing time just as a result of being on the roster all year. If he's a halfway decent manager, he 100% should sit Larnach when there's a lefty on the mound though. Unlike Wallner - who has hit lefties in the minors and even when struggling, shows some good peripherals against lefties - Larnach simply can't hit lefties well enough to justify playing. Career .546 OPS or wOBA of .243 or RC+ of 53. That with a K rate 25% higher and a BB% rate nearly 50% lower and his same terrible OF defense. Why would we criticize Rocco for making a smart managerial decision and sitting Larnach against LHP?
  21. This has become one of those weird things that a lot of people just now hold as truth despite what actually happened. Wallner was striking out in half of his plate appearances, fully lost at the plate. And when he was sent down he continued to stink for a full month or more in AAA. He obviously turned it around but it wasn't like the Twins kept him down there well past when it was obvious he was ready to hit in the majors again. He missed 3 weeks of major league playing, tops. And it's due to how terrible he himself was to open the season. Would it have been better to hope he figured it out at the major league level? I doubt that. Calling him a world class hitter is a bit ridiculous with fewer than 700 PAs to his name. But then again, I might say that about James Wood and he has just over 600. It is unfortunate that he's as bad as he is in the OF but even so, he should be playing every day. Unlike Larnach, I do think he should be trusted enough to hit against lefties.
  22. I can cosign on DFA'ing Alcala. Adams, Lovelady, and Misiewicz all deserve a chance over him.
  23. I said this last month. Terrible, terrible practice. Straight to baseball jail.
  24. People kind of just need to grow up. Peter is a writer on this website. This isn't the AP so there is going to be commentary in addition to the facts presented. Peter is entitled to write what he wants, using his voice to say what he wants to say, and if at some point the people that run this website disagree they can step in or relieve of him his duties. There is no 'no politics' rule. There is a rule against inserting politics into irrelevant conversations, or in a way intended to inflame. There's nothing to suggest Peter was disrespectful to anyone or intended on inflaming anyone. You, anyone not you specifically, are allowed to disagree with Peter. You can even write why you disagree with Peter. But to suggest he can't write something because you don't agree is just infantilizing stuff. If you don't like something don't read it, or engage in respectful conversation describing why you don't like it. This is really no different than people complaining about there being so many Royce Lewis articles. OK. So...just click away then.
