  1. The chances of even one of those guys falling to the Twins spot in the order of teams according to their records is slim and none. Slim was seen saddling up.
  2. I think it's a near lock that the Twins will not try to sign him to an extension after this season. And, I doubt that Lewis is looking to do so, either. The situation will be much more relevant 14 months from now, which will likely be the right time for this to occur. If he plays the majority of the games between now and then with star like prowess, it won't be cheap. But a lot of questions will have been answered, also. At least, that seems like the most logical scenario to me.
  3. I agree with Doc about Julien. There's a really good hitter inside that body. Maybe the sophomore jinx is real for him. Once he figures it out, and I believe that he will, he will be the guy we liked so well last year. He just looks like he's over thinking things right now.
  4. We're getting close to the time of year when football is starting up and baseball takes a backseat. That just boils my blood! I like football, but I'll take baseball ten times over. It's a much better game. No clock,(except pitch clock, which I like), no subjective opinion type scoring, and it's a team game with lots of individual stats and goals to achieve. America's pastime, baby!
  5. Hey Drew, great post! I nominated getting your namesake, Drew Smyly! It's not you is it!?
  6. Are there any teams looking for a veteran presence in the infield? I've been a Farmer fan, but now is the time to move him. Even if it's just for roster space. He could help a young team a lot. A good LHRP in return would be ideal.
  7. I agree with you, DMann. Pitching is harder to predict future results than hitting, I believe. Take what amounts to a better chance at hitting the jackpot with the best bats in the draft first, then work on the diamonds in the rough on the pitching side in later rounds.
  8. Using the platoon would be a great strategy if the right handers were hitting to the same degree as the lefties. Unfortunately, our right handed platoon players can't hit a lick these days. I understand the desire to get everyone on the roster a fair number of at bats, but right now it's costing the team a lot of poor plate appearances. I know that is frustrating for everyone.
  9. I have to wonder about the effects of all this on hitters and coaches alike. How much information is too much information. I know it's more than some are going to be able to put into profitable gains. I would advise a cautious approach.
  10. That's a fantastic picture of Gladden claiming home plate with the catcher on his head!! It would be fun to see the video leading up to that still shot!
  11. This article really sums up the situation very well. It was sound strategy until they all went dry together. The rash of injuries was too much, I guess. There's no quick fix on the horizon that I can see.
  12. The thing is, it's not just Byron. Up and down the lineup, the guys are struggling to hit with much consistency and authority. Is the pitching that much more advanced early in the year? Sometimes it looks like they are guessing as what the pitch is going to be, and then just watching it sail past, often for a strike. It's not just the Twins, because batting averages are quite bad for a lot of teams. Maybe it will just take time. Meanwhile, it's difficult to watch!
  13. I spend the winter at a 55+ rv park in Arizona. We have a beautiful softball field and several teams, one of which I play on and manage. I also evaluate new players to place them on teams according to their skill level. Invariably, nearly all the new players pull a leg muscle within a game or two. They may believe that because they have been hiking, or playing tennis or pickleball, that they won't get hurt. But, sadly, they find out that they haven't been sprinting, and that's the instinct when ball meets bat. Stretching is so important to full speed running. Even the veteran players suffer through these injuries. Of course, we're not youngsters anymore. Royce is young and has the best facilities and personnel to get him going relatively quickly. Good luck to him!
  14. Are these guys actually in game playing shape coming out of spring training? Pulling a quad or hamstring means that maybe not enough stretching or sprinting during pregame warmup. It just seems so preventable to me. Aaaagh!!
  15. There's certainly no reason to be upset about this signing. He gets a lot of outs, and he doesn't throw hard enough to hurt himself. That's a positive thing! He'll fill in nicely.
  16. I agree. We should try our own young guys for a couple of months. If it looks like a playoff run is coming and the trade deadline is approaching, pull the trigger on a trade for a proven starter then. We can't have Mahle luck again, can we?
  17. If Pablo pitches 180, Ryan and Ober each get 130, and Paddack gets to 100 innings, then we're in pretty good shape. Add in the bullpen depth and fill in starts from Varland (this year's Ober), and I get fairly optimistic. The offense looks to be a bit better, just in the fact that Buxton, Lewis, and Correa are looking healthy and ready to go. Rocco has to be feeling pretty darn good compared to just one year ago.
  18. It looks like Walker Jenkins is not going to play. He strained a quad slightly. Nothing serious, they say.
  19. The pain he endured in his knee last year significantly lowered his production at the plate. Likewise, if his legs are under him, I fully expect his swing to be much better. Legs are everything for a ballplayer.
  20. Today's higher velocities and increased spin rates equals elevated stress on every pitch. Therefore, fewer pitches per outing is required if the team is interested in mitigating injuries and keeping a player available for use. Gone are the days of long outings for all but a very few select pitchers throughout baseball. High school pitchers are extremely risky draft picks, I think.
  21. Chestnut's incredibly fragrant dump in the clubhouse would most certainly surpass Bert's bomb. A hint of alfalfa is much better than crickets, nightcrawlers, or spicy tacos that Bert routinely ate. Bert's dump probably had more volume, too. Everyone know how full of crap Bert's is! Lol!
  22. That's the first think I noticed, too. We could use a few more leftys the pipeline.
  23. I'm a big fan of Lee as well. And I hope he makes it tough for them to keep him off the roster. But if delaying his debut gives them another year of control, that's what will happen. They are probably justified in saying that he needs more time in AAA, even though he looks ready right now. I can't wait to see him at Target Field!!
