Twins (TBD) vs Rockies (Freeland): 7/18/25, 7:40pm
knothole61 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
I grew in St. Louis Park very close to Halsey's house. One frigid morning I watched as he came out in just a sports coat to give a neighbor a jump start. Great guy and quite theatrical in his own way. If I'm not mistaken (I may be) his folks were thespians. He could lapse into some magnificent coughing jags at times and Carneal, ever the southern gentleman, would graciously help him through them. The "lighting his coat on fire with a cigar" is an incident worth checking out if you are unaware of it. -
Roster changes to salvage the season, or to re-build
knothole61 replied to VivaBomboRivera!'s topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Van, I dig most of this but I'd keep Coloumbe--left-handed and breathing! Frankly, I'm very Funderburk averse! -
Truth be told, I have criticized Buxton in the past whenever he fell into those prolonged funks of waving at and missing every down and away off-speed pitch. It used to drive me crazy. But I have always considered him to be an exceptional athlete whose presence in the lineup was essential to the Twins. But now...now that he is making better decisions in the box, having an all star season, and expressing his love for Minnesota and his fans, I consider him to be worthy of inclusion in the Minnesota pantheon of sports. Honestly, have you ever seen a more exciting performer in all of local sports than Buxton 2025?

Dealing Ryan? Let’s look back at the Berrios deal.
knothole61 commented on jorgenswest's blog entry in Blog jorgenswest
For the love of god don't trade Ryan...he's a very talented (#2?) pitcher who is making a paltry $3 million a year and will not become a free agent until 2028--do I have that right? He's a gold mine. Extend him now and keep him happy!- 30 comments

A stint in St. Paul might be a good ideas for Lewis, and if it's going to happen do it right now...act decisively. Beyond those things that are more easily measured, I believe that Lewis, the brash, young, intrepid Lewis who once said "I don't do slumps" (or some such thing) is suffering from a crisis of confidence and regaining that, somehow, is probably the key to his recovery. He has the tools but he needs to believe again...yes, he needs that among other things!

Rest your hearts fellow game threaders...I think the last 66 games will bring us tantalizingly close to a playoff spot with concomitant cardiac chaos along the way!

Plouffe is great, (I love the glove in the booth thing) and Perkins is not far behind. Morneau, bless his heart, is a couple of clicks below them but still above Span, etc. The Twins have a good deal of talent in the booth but I'm not hankering for a reprise of the "Three Wise Men" just yet. For all of its offbeat unconventionality, I think the format if repeated too often might quickly dull the edge of husbandry. Welcome back Cory. -

A very exciting pitching duel is in the offing…but baseball is strange and it could end up 11-6! We’ll see. -

Twins 8, Cubs 1: Ryan Jeffers, Twins Ambush Cubs
knothole61 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's hard to disagree with the esteemed "thumbs up" crew on this post, but the telecast booth proceedings drove me to distraction and I had to turn the sound down after the second inning or so. It's probably some failing of mine, but I need to concentrate on the action on the field; and no, the split-screen doesn't do it for me. I have nothing against any of those (a multitude!) in the booth and I think that Pablo is a very bright and articulate man, but if I really want to see how he grips a changeup I'll head to YouTube later and see what I can find, not during the game itself. Last night was essentially an in-game dugout interview that lasted for hours. I hope that they never do this again, but I have a feeling that such things, along with on-field interviews during play (and whatever drone camera horrors they may come up with in the future to make the game more "enjoyable") are the wave of the future. So it goes...- 66 replies

And...if you count the Washington years, Irish born manager Patsy Donovon, (from May 11 - October 10, 1904) posted a record of 37-97 (.276 winning percentage) as his team finished 60 games back of the Boston Americans.. Baldelli is far from the worst Twins' manager...he just rubs me the wrong way too often.

Doc, interesting stuff. Yeah, on Correa all we can do is hope and pray. Clemens has been fun but he has too many awful at bats and I think I'd let him go. Regarding Julien: I'm not a believer--bringing him back seems like a classic case of doing the same thing over and over and hoping for different results. I think I'd rather see Miranda again, a guy who shares the MLB all-time consecutive hit streak, and he tied the record off Hunter Brown! I know, maybe the pitchers have figured him out, etc., but I'd give him a shot before Julien. Finally, I'd try to find the resources to keep Bader around for a couple more years...I'm sure it can be done.- 36 replies

mike, I'm maintaining my self-imposed prohibition on making any comments about Jax. I spent two months declaring that "he just can't be counted on in the clutch." and then after a magnificent inning against Seattle that culminated with a strikeout of the otherworldly Cal Raleigh, I asked for forgiveness and declared him the Second Coming...so, mum's the word! Justin Topa, however, is another story altogether!

Yeah, the 1909 version had a sharp corner in center that was 515' from the plate. By 1925 it was down to 468' and 447' during the 1950s. The last iteration in 1968 had a distance of 410 to center...very reasonable. I love the old ballparks!

Indy, I really hate to say it, but with a rookie QB facing a tough schedule and Division, I'd expect 9 wins at most. I hope I'm wrong!
