  1. Bride looks like the math brainiac, 10K runner who always had oranges and some thoughts on reducing the pain of shin splints while riding on the high school track bus. He really does...
  2. The sad stretch continues...but wasn't it nice to see Buxton return (none the worse for wear) after that potentially devastating HBP that kept him out of the game in Houston on Sunday. Heaven only knows what might have happened if Buxton (and his .850 OPS!) had been forced to pinch hit to start the 10th last Sunday with a sore elbow? But hey, he's so much better now: "wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles!"
  3. We have just experienced two days of excellent pitching, (except for the All-Star closer-yes) especially in that crazy Houston bandbox; and two losses that could easily have been wins with even a modicum more of offense...just a modicum! It's hard to blame Rocco when the batters are so lame. But I do damn his intractability regarding his frequent "cautionary rest days." When he sits Buxton, for example, he has no intention of allowing him to come in late in a game to pinch run or hit with the game on the line. He just won't do it! Today, Buxton should have hit in the 10th...he's having a great season and he's a real threat at bat right now. Rocco does some things well, but his utter inability to throw caution to the wind (even just a bit) drives me crazy. Hey SWR, great job today!
  4. A competitive game against an excellent SP, from a team that has been reeling--I'll take that as a good sign. Now, maybe the Twins and Adam Scott can provide Father's Day presents tomorrow?
  5. Every MLB season is of course "a long, strange trip," filled with peaks and valleys...but the Twins I fear may be heading for Death Valley at this point. In order to salvage 2025, in my humble opinion, the Twins will need to dig in their heels right now and find a way to win 8 of the next 12 before heading into Detroit for 3. And yes, given the pitching implosion and the freshly injured Lewis, etc., that seems impossible--and yet, it is possible. So, I'll pin my hopes on that and take things a day at a time. Pollyanna
  6. MMM, I forgive them because they are taught this, but I can't abide by the trivialization of the absolute horror that was Nazi Germany. Hate our "G." all you want, but the millions of victims of Hitler and his henchmen deserve that the record remain crystal clear--it's the least that we can do.
  7. Great win...and Buxton was in All-Star form! Help me out here: I'm calling on the more prosaic, stat-centered folks herein to try to make some sense of this for me. I believe that we're being plagued during the telecasts of late with stats that seem (to one such as me) to be absolutely meaningless. I'm wondering if I'm missing something, or if maybe the producers are just giving AI free rein to pop meaningless stats on the screen without considering their merit. This evening, we were told, was the first time since 2016 that Buxton has had a walk, a home run, and a double in a game. Even more meaningless, I think, a couple of games ago we were informed that we had just seen the first instance since 1975 that a Twins' catcher and third baseman had hit back-to-back homers in a game. What am I missing?
  8. Patzky, Love you man, but can you please switch out that awful emblem--it's reminiscent of something I might have seen in a fevered dream during the summer of 1968! How about a bucolic scene of some sort? The verdant hilltop at Machu Picchu might be nice.
  9. So nice to beat the Jays...they came in hot and they have tough, pesky hitters throughout their lineup. We won't see them again until the end of August in Toronto. That should be enough time to recover.
  10. Jax is a very touchy subject for some...almost like abusing the flag, which of course you should never do! He has some incredible stuff and his spin and blah, blah, numbers are apparently to die for. And, you have to give him credit because his last few appearances have been wonderful. But...and here's the big but...he seems, to this not-so-casual observer, to be more prone to psych-outs than some; to giving in to pressure in high leverage situations, that is. I can't quote chapter and verse, but it's been my impression of him all along that in the 8th inning or later (I think he did blow a close situation earlier in the season-yes?) with the game tied or with a one-run lead things have, on a regrettable number of occasions, ended up exactly like today. I think he's quite talented and I like him as a player very much--his failures are hard to watch. But, at this stage in his career, I wouldn't call him a clutch performer.
  11. Always tough with Toronto and their Molson Posse in town. I've attended several Twins/Blue Jays encounters over the years, and whatever Toronto's exact percentage of the crowd, the feeling is that the Twins are not the home team...more decidedly, in fact, than when the Brewers' fans descend. Is that an excuse for often folding to the Jays? not really...but that and the generally potent Toronto offense year after year is an explanation, I think. Just win the series against Toronto and it's a feather in the cap!
  12. Lopez out 2-3 months...very sad. Next man up!
  13. Bly, my thoughts exactly...like he's aiming at a dartboard.
  14. Have the waters parted? Time will tell, but good for you Lewis. It had become agonizing to watch your at bats, and now I'm relieved for both of us. I should probably duck when I write this, but I think that there is a wellspring of excellence inside of Lewis that may (and may not) find its way to the surface again. During the 0-30 stretch they kept talking about his stance and swing, etc., but to me the only great impediment to Lewis was in his mind--his increasing lack of confidence and impatience to regain success. How great would it be to have his bat back?
  15. For the real Durham Bulls it's: Hit Bull Win Steak, Hit Grass Win Salad."
  16. The White Sox beat the Tigers 8-1...nothing else matters to me.
  17. Please stop the in game, dugout, half-inning interviews...please. I am a curmudgeon, of course. but I also believe I am correct when I say that these interviews add very little to the game and genuinely obscure the action on the field. I guess it's an attempt to grow the game, to attract new fans, is that it? I mean, what am I missing here? Which demographic is it that would rather hear about a given player's winter workout regimen than pay close attention to the game action itself. I don't know.
  18. Sherry Lewis, as in he’s hitting like Sherry Lewis?
  19. Agreed...I hate Manfred Ball but it's a thing and you have to develop and execute winning extra inning strategies. The analytics guys scoff at a sac bunt of course because their "expectancy" charts do not favor it, but I sure do. Putting a runner on 3rd with less than two outs in extra innings is a very good idea, in my humble opinion. It might even lead the opposition to feel some stress which can lead to poor execution. In a paraphrase of the Alec Baldwin character in Glengarry Glen Ross: in extra innings teams must Alway Be Scoring!
  20. I gave up after Raleigh's second blast (have you ever seen a worse meatball?) and headed over to the Strib for their postmortem...and boy was I surprised! This, ladies and gentlemen is why baseball is the greatest game on Earth.
  21. A Roman centurion's helmet that tends to lose its red crest at times, what's not to like? At any rate, one has to admit that it's better than the ravaged summer sausage that made the rounds in 2024-yes?
  22. Might have wanted to game plan a bit differently for Raleigh...pitch around him and walk him if need be? You know, he's on pace for 60+ home runs this year!
