  1. I think there's good evidence that he took $5,000 from the gamblers (worth over $90,000 today) to keep quiet about what he knew was happening. Not a good look...
  2. Bean, some things are just plain wrong and time can not change that fact. I don't know if you are old enough, but I watched this whole drama play out in real time. I saw the cocky Pete lying through his teeth until the weight of evidence forced him at last to change his tune. I saw him fail time and time again to offer any true contrition. And I remember the toll he took on MLB Commissioner Bart Giamatti, a great man who may have been driven to his early grave in part by the stress that Pete's situation undoubtedly caused him. He's "paid and paid again for his actions" to you, but not to me...never.
  3. Poor Cory is very nondescript looking. He's trying to add a bit of pinache, I guess. I'm glad we have him...
  4. True, and one of the few wins this year when scoring under 4 runs...but, it's hard to lose a shutout!
  5. 46, it might be best to increase the Metoprolol for the duration--but of course check with your doctor first.
  6. Nice to have the boys back over .500 again...but of course this is just "the end of the beginning." Detroit is a solid, in some respects frightening, team, and Cleveland and KC show no signs of implosion at present. This should be an old-fashioned horse race (-CWS) for the Division crown all summer long, I think, and what more could we ask for?
  7. Love that getaway day win! In Gardy's days we'd essentially have forfeited the game with a lineup based on resting the best players, even with an off-day coming up. Man, that drove me crazy. Remember the team that was swept in Atlanta? Well, I didn't see them on Sunday. Yet it is quite fortunate that the Twins won because, despite their recent woes, the Brewers will play us hard in Milwaukee. Their crazed and hype-loyal fans take this border battle stuff quite seriously, and will be supercharged and numerous in their support for TBC, (Their Beloved Crew).
  8. Keep Jax comfortable and he's very valuable. Give him the 7th and seldom on consecutive days. Again, I'm sure that some of the more analytical among you can throw some stats at me to try to prove that I'm wrong, but I will choose to believe my educated suspicions instead. After all, as Mark Twain was fond of saying, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
  9. .500 again, and much faster than I thought it would happen! F.rom here on in it's play .500 on the road and win 2 of 3 at home. If I never have to endure a dugout interview during play again...well, that will be just fine.
  10. Impressive win...now 2 games below .500. Small steps... Rejoice guys and gals, the Twins have strong starting pitching...it's just a shame that Detroit, Cleveland, and KC are all playing out of their minds.
  11. Impressive win...now 2 games below .500. Small steps... The Twins were Houdini on the diamond for much of the game!
  12. Impressive win...now 3 games below .500. Small steps... Yeah, on Tuesday night I was happy to hear Justin's voice, like an old friend who had unexpectedly returned. Truth be told, Denard did nothing for me. He's knowledgeable, etc., but he left me kind of flat. So, when I heard Morneau's voice filled as it is with boyish enthusiasm, well, it warmed the cockles of my old heart. Morneau truly was a great player, of that there is no doubt, and I think that he might make an effective (maybe great) hitting coach if he chooses to go that route. His knowledge of pitchers and pitching is absolutely amazing, but unfortunately, also absolutely unbearable at times. On Tuesday after my infatuation passed I found myself muting his voice quite frequently as his pedantry was loosed along the airwaves. Good god man, do you have to beat every explanation to death? The broadcast's producers should encourage him to cut his sometimes turgid analysis by about two-thirds...I think that would do nicely for starters.
  13. Very happy with that win. Paddack bent but did not break, despite throwing a ton of pitches and some clutch hits arrived late. I've been critical of Baldelli for the better part of two years now, but credit where credit is due: I think that he handled Jax very well (when he was up against he ropes with that massive ERA) by giving him a brief rest and then using him in lower leverage situations in the 7th inning. It seemingly built this confidence a bit. But today, Jax faced the meat of the Red Sox order in the 8th, (and he had also pitched the day before)--and pow, a home run. Rocco, use Jax every other day at most and never as a set-up man or closer, at least for a while, and all should be well, Jax has excellent stuff and great potential, but at this point in his career I think that he works best when he's very well rested and is used earlier in the game.
  14. I've played a lot of OF (good for me) and there's nothing worse than a pesky, aggressive infielder meandering too far into the outfield and flailing around, desperately looking for a ball that I can clearly see. Why do they do that? Anyway, that was Larnach's ball and he needed to call it right away to keep Bride at bay. If he did call it and Bride kept coming, I'd have him sit the rest of the game. But...nice win!
  15. A sweet and much needed win. It's early in May and too soon to give up on winning the Division just yet. We need to think in terms of small steps...lose on Saturday and we're 8 under .500, but now it's 6: small steps. Two things give me a bit of confidence: I think that the starting pitching is quite solid and it's hard to overestimate that, and the fact that some potentially better hitters should be showing up in the lineup soon. It remains to be seen, of course, but Lewis, and Wallner might be a nice start on the road to a recovering offense, and the addition of Castro and Martin for depth would help as well, in my humble opinion. And I've circled my calendar in July for the return of Keaschall! Finally, there is a chance that Miranda can get his act together and return to contribute in ways that he has in the past--maybe. Long summer, small steps...
  16. Aggies, have you watched the September 30, 1967 Twins v. Red Sox game...what a lineup, and what a decisive, high-stakes game! That was back when only one team per ten-team league made the postseason!
  17. Julian is such a strange bird: a little talent, a little power, a lot of clumsiness. I apologize for the stereotyping, and God bless the French for the Statue of Liberty and basically winning our Revolution for us with their fleet at Yorktown (and maybe for Bardot?), but his actions at times are reminiscent of that Peter Sellers character--and I'll say no more.
  18. I mean...we tend to feel so sorry for Sisyphus. His eternal task is laborious and futile; but can you imagine what kind of shape he's in?
  19. dude, we need to put together a 16 -game win streak like the New York Giants did near the end of the 1951 season. 29-20 would look pretty good. But, the Giants were stealing signs with a spyglass from Durocher 's office in deep center at the Polo Grounds. Hmmmmmmmm
