75 Options the Minnesota Twins Could Trade For
specialiststeve replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I do believe that the Dodgers are looking for pitching... Would be smart to move Gray and Meata... would guess they would be interested in pitching... getting back the best possible prospects at this point would be a win... We clearly are spinning our wheels in the sand...- 42 replies

Joey Gallo Shatters Failure Narratives
specialiststeve replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Disaster of a signing and disastrous play. 3-4 mil with incentives fine.. 11 mil insane. Highlights the path of Baldelli's thinking .. hit it out of the park or strike out. Poor foresight with the rule change and worse results. He should be let go as soon as possible and let some of the young guys play... Walner especially... Also while Max is hitting... Trade before he goes back to his norm... which is not very good. -
Umm... Baldelli's LACK of leadership is why we are where we are. Took a players meeting where the players took and discussed that they need to take accountability for their play including and highlighted the hitting. Players have to hold each other accountable to be a team driven team but... Coaches also have to hold themselves accountable which I don't really see. The approach for the at bats for the time of our new hitting coach has been terrible.. where is the accountability? Baldelli's continued misuse of the bullpen has screwed up Lopez and Duran and others who have no clue what their roll is. If the hitting coach and manager were being held accountable they likely would have been fired. Hmmm.. with the all star break up us.... timing would seem to fit.

Carlos Correa is the Twins' Biggest Problem
specialiststeve replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Completely disagree, The evidence of how the hitters approach their AB's is terrible as evidenced by their results. Fact. If you listened to the hitters after the all players meeting it was about "accountability" .... Baldelli talked about Popkins giving them the numbers and the players have to use the numbers and the info to be better... WHAT? Numbers are just that .... that is NOT coaching. Coaching is actually looking at the AB's.. figuring out what is not working and changing to make it better... Not holding the coaching staff accountable for what there job is... is not good. Players need to be held accountable as do the coaches. -
More of the same... Should not expect anything different until Baldelli and Popkins are gone. Baldelli mismanages the bullpen for the 100th time... Twins continue to have poor AB's... thanks Popkins. Hopefully the FO will make some changes during the all star break...

Carlos Correa is the Twins' Biggest Problem
specialiststeve replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The "tangible" evidence IS in the numbers that the team continues to provide. Crystal clear evidence actually. -
Carlos Correa is the Twins' Biggest Problem
specialiststeve replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Actually David Popkins the hitting coach and Baldelli are our biggest problems. Their direction in the hitting department (all or nothing mentality and lacking a quality plan at the plate) and Baldelli's lack of overall ability to adjust to the new game with the new rules is "our biggest" problem. Am hoping for a change very soon. Too much talent on this team and system to be where we are at. -
What If Everything is Actually Data?
specialiststeve commented on Rod Carews Birthday's blog entry in Swings and Misses, Mostly. . . .
Data and numbers are fine but everyone needs to understand it comes down to how they are used and the validly of the numbers... Example is exit velocity... Great that Gallo can hit it 118 miles per hour out of the park... Buxton... Correa... etc.. but What is the exit velocity of a strike out? Zero! A better stat would average exit velocity of all AB's. My guess Is Gallo and Bux is about 20 MPH. A stat the "analytics" hate is hitting with runners on base or in scoring position... to that crowd it is an invalid stat saying it is all the same... WRONG again. Hitting with runner on or in scoring position is a skill and an art. Swinging from your heels hoping to run into one is not... We lack that fundamental skill and Rocco and the new hitting coach "don't get it"... Data... would say they both need to go..- 17 comments

VIDEO: Should the Twins Trade Sonny Gray?
specialiststeve replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If we do not come to a contract extension... the long play would be to send him back to an NL playoff team that is needing pitching. We clearly at this point are not a contender for the AL pennant. HAVE to think long term if no deal is struck. -
Gallo is/was/continues to be a disaster. The front office not willing to recognize it is ridiculous. Looking at other signings is a revisionist history that is low hanging fruit. We should have done better. That being said the hitting coach should be fired ... continuing to have the same approach and expecting something different is the definition of insanity. Although, that would explain things. LOL

Should the Twins Pursue Wil Myers?
specialiststeve replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pretty clear to "most" that Gallo and Kepler need to be moved... ASAP. Both are MAJOR liabilities with the bat. Their defense is good but not enough to make up for their lack of quality ab's and lack of production. We have internal options for their replacement so unless getting a "major" upgrade... no need to use assets. We shall see.- 48 replies

Let's be clear here that this is not rocket science and it is NOT about the metrics. Too many of our coaches and Front office are focused on this and not the actual fundamentals of the game! And THERE lies the problem. The fundamentals of our hitters at this point IS the issue. The "pull" mentality has been the main issue here as players that are Good at using the whole field have been pulling off the ball to try to hit it Mach 10 and into the 3rd deck instead of putting a solid swing on the ball and hitting the ball where it is pitched. It is SO evident to those that have played and coached that most of this team "pulls off the ball" and their frontside is gone on a good majority of their swings. Result of this is that we hit poorly when in need of situation baseball as you can't just turn that on and off. Preaching and teaching this all the way down the system is and needs to be a priority. When that happens ... our hitting numbers will improve.. until then... expect more of the same. Unfortunately.

As I had said before the season and I will stick with it.. Polanco needs to be the every day DH. We has so many good options at 2B it only makes sense.. Options in center.. well not so much. If Bux is healthy his value is AS much in the OF and likely more than at the plate. Just have to tell him.. NO running into fences-time to grow up and pull up!

Start supporting each other like a team should!
specialiststeve commented on killebrewlover's blog entry in Killebrewlover
Starts at the top... Baldelli and this coaching staff has not shown the ability to coach sound fundamentals since he arrived. Our focus on HR or bust mentality is showing it's ugly face again. This starts with manager and hitting coach... not good. Baldelli stating we would be much more aggressive on the base baths. Just shows a lack of commitment and guts to get off of his hands and manage. Argh. Love our Twins but as an old coach the lack of fundamentals on defense and understanding situational hitting and holding players accountable for this ... is tough to watch.
