    I'm not really a game thread poster, so I don't have a horse in this race, but I must respectfully ask: why? What difference does it make whether posts are positive or negative? Does this impact your advertising revenue or other business aspects? I realize I sound snarky but I'm genuinely curious. New here this season so excuse my ignorance :)

    For those who have long defended Falvine and Baldelli. What would it take for your mind to be changed? I think it's glaringly obvious by now that the group is just not competent - their entire philosophy begins and ends with "grip it & rip it" whether it's a bat or a ball. That's it, that's all, there is nothing more. They don't value fundamentals, so they don't teach them. They don't value situational hitting, so they don't teach it. They don't value pitching, so they only teach velocity. Their bullpen management consistently gives worse relievers more innings than better ones. They have an extreme reliance on analytics but do not seem to understand statistics well enough to properly apply them, and simply cannot react on the fly and adjust to the situation at hand. My concern is that the longer we keep rolling with these guys, the more damage is going to be done in the Twins system by turning every hitting into a 1-tool player and every pitcher into a chucker with a damaged arm. I'm afraid it's going to take years to dig out of the Falvine hole. Ok rant over :) Go get 'em tonight!

    This is the fallacy of replay - "it's correct every time". It's not. Every time expanded replay is discussed in any sport, it's always "this will take 20 seconds and never be wrong". It never, ever works out that way - it always takes far longer and incorrect calls still happen. Hard, hard pass on slowing the game down further. I don't watch baseball to witness perfectly accurate ball/strike calls, I watch to be entertained - which, given that my team is the Twins, means I'm not watching much baseball these days :) Gradually removing the human element from baseball - both in terms of replays but also intensive sabermetrics that treat players as strat-o-matic robots - has gradually removed humans from the stands and TV screens and perhaps most importantly, little league fields.

    Well, sure, but a pitcher's job is to get outs, not to throw a certain mph. I'm certain Jack Morris' mph declined in '91 G7. Good pitchers learn how to get through jams with less than ideal stuff - but you gotta give them the chance to do so!

    I love this kind of philosophical discussion! I'd say pulling the starter too soon is worse. 2022 is a great example of this, because we tax the heck out of our bullpen which was one of the main reasons for a downfall. Pulling a starter too soon can lead to a domino effect that can have longer term repercussions. Then again, pulling a starter too late could cost you the game, so I'd say in the playoffs (lol) better to err on the early side. Just my 2 cents. Great question!

    My mistake as I thought you were talking about the home team. I apologize. Still, I don't know that I agree that playing for a run as the road team is a losing proposition. This would suggest that the home team on average scores 2 runs in the bottom of the 10th. Obviously this isn't true. In extras teams play for a run, not 7. If 9-1-2 is coming up in the top of 10, bunting still might be your best bet to get that run. If it's 3-4-5, maybe you swing away.

    Flying out with 1 out and a runner on 3rd wins the game. Your comment suggests it's not possible for hitters to adjust to the situation at hand and not swing for the fences when a fly ball or base hit wins the game. This used to be called "situational hitting". Lost art, I guess, but I just reject the idea that hitters cannot be expected to adjust their approach if the game calls for it.

    I'm keeping track of the give-up games this year. By my count this is the 3rd one so far and they lost all 3. These give up games are going to haunt the Twins later in the year, just like they did last year. Not to mention the lost opportunity for the confidence boost and "exercise the demons" by sweeping the dreaded Yanks.

    I know I'll get yelled at, but is there a reason Duran couldn't come out again in the 10th? 19 pitches, after 3 days of rest, against a light hitting lineup? Wasn't Duran a starter as recently as last season? Our best reliever throwing around 50 pitches a week - while lesser guys like Jax, Acala, Moran throw more - seems suboptimal.

    Help me understand how pulling a pitcher after 5 shutout innings and 75 pitches is the pitcher's fault because he's not good enough??? Again, the Twins did this a half dozen times last year. I'd argue that a pre set strategy is the ONLY thing that makes sense here. If you are arguing otherwise I'd say Rocco needs to be removed from his job immediately, because removing starting pitchers who are throwing really good games for no reason is insane.

    I agree! The Twins, instead of crying, should have said "let's show those damn umps and damn Yankees and go out and win the game!" Instead they felt sorry for themselves, literally didn't score another run the entire weekend, and whined to the media. Look, the club is playing well. But I'm a big picture guy and there's a reason we've 18 straight playoff games. How poorly the Twins dealt with the tiniest amount of adversity this weekend does not bode well to me. I don't know, maybe my expectations are unreasonable and I should be happy with just competing in the Central race every couple years.

    Haha I forgot that criticism isn't allowed here...things are great, umpires conspire against the Twins and it's soooo unfair, the Yankees are mean and the Twins are going to win the World Series. Fixed it :)

    Probably both. Twins had 6 or 7 games last year where the starter got pulled after giving up 0 or 1 runs in the 5th or less with managable pitch counts (sorry, I don't have the exact numbers in front of me). So it's pretty clear the FO and manager have adjusted their approach.

    My eyeballs are rolling out of my head. This is the attitude of a loser. Twins had every chance to win the series and blew it because they were so focused on crying about umpires. Larnach's "I don't even know the rules but I know we got screwed" is a perfect encapsulation of this loser's attitude. Go get a hit instead Trevor!

    This is my point though, they ARE purposely not playing their best players! Ask the Twins and I'm sure they would tell you the same. You can't call a "scheduled off day" anything other than "purposely not playing their best players". If you think load management is helpful and supported by evidence, fine, make that argument, but I really don't understand the reflex to defend the FO by saying "actually the sky is pink and I'm amazed anyone thinks it's blue".

    I was curious about this too. Turns out, because MLB contracts require players to disclose medical info to the team, this is considered the employee's authorization to do so. Once this authorization is given, HIPAA no longer applies because MLB teams are not covered employers (like health care providers) under the law. So, I think we can retire "teams can't be transparent with fans due to HIPAA" as a meaningful talking point here.

    Like any business, I'd argue the Twins owe the fans, to whom they are selling a product, honesty and transparency about the product they are selling. This goes without saying in every other business in the world - would anyone argue that say Best Buy doesn't owe product information to their customers? "Hey, if you want a tv, you'll have to buy it to find out what kind." No one is asking for player charts, so you've successfully knocked down the HIPAA strawman you constructed :) And you are stating your opinion as though it is fact. You're entitled to your opinion, but it's pretty poor form to christen your opinion as the one true fact and angrily shut down debate.
