    Or, much, much more frequent than either of those outcomes, a ball in play becomes a hit.

    The Twins have 1093 hits, 99 GIDPS. Putting the ball in play you are 10x more likely to get a hit than GIDP. They've also struck out 1382 times, or 7x more outs than GIDP outs. Putting the ball in play is far more productive than a K and it's not close.

    You're comparing the outcome of a batted ball to the outcome of an at bat. There are 3 outcomes of an at bat: putting the ball in play, walk/HBP, or K. K is far less productive than either of the other 2 outcomes.

    Interesting question. You'd trade the 91 Series for 10 years of better records in the 90s and a couple division titles? Not saying this is wrong, just interesting. Basically this question is the Royals, right? 1 series win, 1 series loss, amidst a couple decades of total ineptitude. I don't know but I think I'd take this over the last 20 years of Twins being either middling or terrible...maybe...the Royals have had some really, really awful seasons...

    Farmer has a higher WAR than Correa in 23 fewer games. In fact, Correa is 10th among Twins hitters in WAR despite leading the team in games played. And honestly comparing a $30mil/yr guy to a career backup says all you need to know about Correa's season. I don't think the Twins signed Correa to provide Kyle Farmer-esque numbers or rack up the 10th best WAR on the team. I know we desperately want Correa to be great. But by any hitting measure, he's been really bad. It's ok to say it.

    Ok, and from a hitting perspective, "what he has" is hurting the team.

    Because he's playing, and not on the IL? If he's too hurt to play, he shouldn't. If he's in the lineup, he needs to be perform. No need to hand him an excuse.

    If you're advocating for scripting out an early hook regardless of how well Gray pitches or the game plays out, I could not disagree more. Look at the bullpen's numbers since the break. Are they good? How has Pagan performed in high leverage situations?

    How's the bullpen been handling that 6th/7th inning? This team focuses way too much on when to pull guys, and way too little on who they are going to replace them with. I trust a tiring Gray more than a fresh Floro, Pagan, Sands, etc.

    If the Twins script out a scenario in which they remove one of their 2 best pitchers after 5 regardless of performance and how the game plays out in order to bring in a minor leaguer, the entire FO and field staff should be fired immediately after the game.

    I mean, I think a guy who we can count on for 1 inning would be huge. We barely have any of those guys right now. My bigger point is, for how crappy the team has played this year they will likely be in the playoffs, with the best rotation we've had in a while. Weird things happen in the playoffs. Let's actually try to win! This franchise has won ONE playoff series in 3 decades, we don't have the luxury of punting on playoff appearances.

    For those suggesting it wasn't worth making moves at the deadline this year.... Let's say the Twins make the playoffs. We all know the FO/Rocco are going to go the early hook route, so Gray/Lopez are going 5 tops. That means 12 outs from the bullpen, 2 nights in a row. Who's getting those 24 high leverage outs for us? If I recall correctly, the Mariners closer was dealt for peanuts.

    Replacing a bad pitcher with a better one won't make a difference? Man, some of these responses are head scratchers.

    Yeah it's almost like before significantly adding to his physical workload by asking him to play a position he hasn't played all year, they might want to make sure the hammy is fully healed. Wild, indeed.

    As I explained many, many times a few months ago, my belief was that, if he was too injured to play CF he was too injured to hit/run the bases and therefore playing him was detrimental to the team. I'll let you evaluate his performance since then to determine whether or not I was right. Now he's literally been on the IL for 3 weeks, and you're arguing that now is the time to INCREASE the physical toll on his body? I am just so confused. He's injured. Shut him down.
