    Let me try to understand this. A couple months ago, he was healthy enough to sprint around the bases, but not healthy enough to sprint around the outfield. Now, he's not healthy enough to do either...in games....but after months more wear and tear and his body continuing to degrade... now he's finally healthy enough to sprint around the outfield? With a bum hamstring? A lot of posters here were pretty adamant about how physically taxing playing CF is so I guess I'm lost as to how he couldn't play CF with a healthy hammy but now he's "ramping up" with one that's kept him out of the lineup for almost a month. It would be like the Twins putting Duran on the IL with elbow issues and announcing they're stretching him out to return as a starter.

    Many TD posters questioned the Twins' handling of the Buxton situation earlier in the season -- for example, how someone could be healthy enough to sprint around the bases but not healthy enough to sprint around the outfield - and we were told it was stupid and borderline offensive to question the Twins because if he was healthy enough to play CF he would be playing CF, end of story. Now it appears it's ok to be questioning the Twins' approach. Interesting. I'll ask another question: how in the world does it make any sense for Buxton to be ramping up to play the field....while he's on the IL?

    Well, the non-Floro portions of the bullpen shut out the Brewers, so the Twins probably win. Mission accomplished!

    Telling fans how to feel is not "hitting it on the head," sorry. If I told you that you shouldn't follow this team because of past failures I'm guessing you'd take issue with that.

    So why did they even let him go 5 innings? Wouldn't it have been even smarter to yank him after 4?

    As with a lot of sabermetric decisions, this omits the most important fact: Rocco pulled Ober after 5 with a 3-2 lead AND REPLACED HIM WITH DYLAN FLORO. Replacing a starter who is performing well with a low pitch count, with a bad reliever who seemingly hasn't had a clean inning since he arrived here, is quite out of the ordinary in my book. Details matter.

    It's not like fans are clamoring for him to have pitched another 12 innings yesterday. I'm positive his arm wouldn't have fallen off with ONE more inning yesterday. I don't understand the argument that 5 innings last night falls within the realm of safe, responsible workload but 6 would have crossed the line. Why not yank him after 4? After 3? Wouldn't that be more responsible? For god's sake, he only pitched 70 innings last year! This is going to be a thing in the playoffs, folks. Due to the terrible Central the Twins are going to have a long time to script out the playoffs. Get prepared for 5 inning starts out of Gray and Lopez. After all, the bullpen's gonna be fresh just like it was last night, right? Listen to Rocco: the decision to yank Ober had nothing to do with pitch count/innings limits. It was because Rocco thought turning it over to Dylan Floro gave the team the best chance to win. That should be the A topic today, not innings limits.

    There's a huge difference between disagreeing with another fan's opinion - that's part of the fun of sports! - and telling a fan they are supposed to feel a certain way.

    Ah, fan policing, my favorite topic. I'd say the definition of "snooty" would be someone lecturing fans on how they are supposed to feel. Actually, no, I'd use a stronger word than snooty... Has Jim Souhan watched the Twins for the past 32 years? How has winning the Central worked out for the past 3 decades? Has Souhan looked at the AL standings? Would he be writing the same article if the Twins were in the West or East? Has Souhan watched the 2023 Twins play baseball? Fans can feel however they want, full stop. Imagine watching a game like, oh I don't know, today's game, and saying: "Why can't Twins fans be more grateful?"

    I don't think this works as an analogy as it would mean, in the context of the Arraez/Lopez discrepancy, that you are much taller than me when using metric, but I'm slightly taller than you when using imperial.

    Still blows the mind that he started game 2 in the 2019 playoffs for a 100 win team.

    I hear you...but with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs you don't even need a hit! Any hitter who has reached the major should be able to hit a fly ball, that's not a specialized skill that only certain hitters can manage. Like, say, hitting home runs. You'd think with a talent-deficient roster the team would emphasize the little things, scratching and clawing for any run they can get. Instead they seem to teach every hitter to swing for the fences every at bat regardless of situation. It's baffling.

    To me, getting a runner home from 3rd with less than 2 outs is different than clutch hitting. That's just situational awareness and fundamentally sound baseball, and this org seems to have little interest in either.

    Absolutely! Correa at $10m would mean we had another $20m to spend on bullpen, RH bat, etc. We would be a much better team if we were only paying him $10mil. If you're going to take up 20% of the team's entire payroll you better produce. I get your point though. Correa's been bad, we can argue about how bad, but the fact remains, he just needs to be better.

    That's your opinion. I think the methodology nicely provides some context around how bad Correa has been. And comparing one player's stats to another has been done approximately 700 billion times in the history of baseball, so I remain confused as to why you are so offended by it.

    Come on. The poster is making a point. The fact that the Twins are paying $30 mil in 2023 for Simmons/Adiranza level production is eye opening. He's not saying Correa's career is comparable to either of them. Surely you understand this.

    So one WAR has Arraez as twice as valuable as Lopez, the other has Lopez slightly more valuable than Arraez? I appreciate what WAR tries to do but I don't think it's helpful when they tell drastically different stories.

    For a front office that is very vocal in its love of analytics, they have a weird habit of disregarding all statistics for certain players and just thinking the guy will magically turn it around once they breathe in the golden air of One Twins Way. Another area where "the process" is flawed and inconsistent at best.

    Great post. I guess the only thing I'll add is that I don't think "are there worse MLB GMs" should be a factor into whether or not Falvine goes. But you're right, as much as I'm ready to move on from Falvine (have been for a while), it could be worse.

    Yeah good points. "Fire 'em all" is the easiest thing to say for a fan. I do think Falvine have been given a long leash and the results just haven't been there - it's great that they incorporated analytics into the process, but as a fan I care about results. Not only have there been 0 playoff wins, things have been trending downward the past couple seasons. Here's how I tend to think of it: there are 30 MLB GM jobs on planet Earth. Is Falvey one of the 30 best people in the world at running a ball club? Personally I don't really see anything in his performance to suggest that's the case. But again, easy for me to say.

    By this logic no team would every fire anyone, ever. Yes, the next regime MIGHT not be successful. We KNOW the current one has not been. Falvey said when he was hired that the easily measurable goal was to build a sustained championship organization. Do you think he has succeeded?
