    The case to be made is he had serious enough injury concerns that not 1 but 2 teams were scared off when they did their own examination. This doesn't mean that the Twins should not have signed him, but it's a very legitimate concern. And given how the season has played out I'm guessing SF and NY are both breathing a sigh of relief that they backed out.

    Maybe, but don't forget if we end up playing Seattle or Toronto both of those teams arguably have better starting pitching. Under Falvine no starter has ever gone past 5 in the playoffs and my fear is that they will script the games in advance to turn it over to the pen in the 5th or 6th. You'd think they learned their lesson on this but I'm not confident. Starting pitching is our strength, for us to go anywhere in the playoffs the starters have to go deep.

    Looks like we're in line to play Toronto or Seattle. I'm not sure we'll have a starting pitching advantage against either team, much less a "huge" one.

    It's not medically possible for an ankle injury to affect hitting but not defense. Correa was just as bad at the plate before the supposed injury as he's been since. He's just been flat out bad this year. If his injury is indeed affecting his performance to a significant degree he shouldn't be playing. It's not heroic to hurt the team by playing poorly while injured. (See also "Buxton, Byron 2023 season" for further reference.) And it shouldn't be hard to say he's having a bad year. Go ahead, say it. Give it a try. "Carlos Correa has had a terrible year." Your life will not change one way or the other, and your fan card won't be revoked, I promise. In 2021 Simmons was 8th on the Twins hitters in WAR with 1.5, In 2023 Correa is 10th on the Twins with 1.4 WAR. The comparison is actually more spot on than I even realized.

    Well if Roy Smalley says so.... So, let me get this straight: plantar fascitis affects hitting and running, but not fielding? The minor leagues are riddled with shortstops who can field but not hit. I'm pretty sure the Twins aren't paying Correa $30 mil/year to be Andrelton Simmons.

    Is it? He was terrible before the "plantar fascitis" came up. I'm not seeing any turning point in his numbers that show some kind of injury dropoff.

    Yes, sort of like how everyone loved Donaldson's "fire" when he was here, but once he left he retroactively became a clubhouse cancer that we were happy to get rid of.... Now that Gallo has replicated his 2022 season I think it's safe to say the problem wasn't the NY media.

    There was an interesting study done a few years ago showing that the way MPH is now calculated with better technology is different than it was in previous decades, and results in higher MPH. I believe the article said a pitch calculated at 85 mph in the 1990s would calculate at 90 mph today. So it might not be as simple as saying "everyone throws faster now". (I wish I could find the article but can't, sorry.)

    Or, much, much more frequent than either of those outcomes, a ball in play becomes a hit.

    The Twins have 1093 hits, 99 GIDPS. Putting the ball in play you are 10x more likely to get a hit than GIDP. They've also struck out 1382 times, or 7x more outs than GIDP outs. Putting the ball in play is far more productive than a K and it's not close.

    You're comparing the outcome of a batted ball to the outcome of an at bat. There are 3 outcomes of an at bat: putting the ball in play, walk/HBP, or K. K is far less productive than either of the other 2 outcomes.

    Interesting question. You'd trade the 91 Series for 10 years of better records in the 90s and a couple division titles? Not saying this is wrong, just interesting. Basically this question is the Royals, right? 1 series win, 1 series loss, amidst a couple decades of total ineptitude. I don't know but I think I'd take this over the last 20 years of Twins being either middling or terrible...maybe...the Royals have had some really, really awful seasons...

    I'm guessing the 30 MLB teams who will decline to sign him to a major league deal this offseason will disagree that he's been "average".

    If the Twins offered Jeffers for Arraez straight up, would the Marlins would take that deal?

    Farmer has a higher WAR than Correa in 23 fewer games. In fact, Correa is 10th among Twins hitters in WAR despite leading the team in games played. And honestly comparing a $30mil/yr guy to a career backup says all you need to know about Correa's season. I don't think the Twins signed Correa to provide Kyle Farmer-esque numbers or rack up the 10th best WAR on the team. I know we desperately want Correa to be great. But by any hitting measure, he's been really bad. It's ok to say it.

    Ok, and from a hitting perspective, "what he has" is hurting the team.

    Because he's playing, and not on the IL? If he's too hurt to play, he shouldn't. If he's in the lineup, he needs to be perform. No need to hand him an excuse.
