Austin Martin's New Strike Zone
Jeff K replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with your statement, but also think he is a decent back-up 2nd baseman. His primary position should be left field. -
100%. I saw a snarky comment that basically said Twins prospects are nothing except possibly Jenkins. Perhaps that's true, but you don't know until you give these guys extended opportunities. And the current configuration of the Twins roster is NOT built to be successful; outside of the starting pitching who are being hurt by the terrible fielding.

Week in Review: Cracks in the Armor
Jeff K replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't want to be too negative, but outside of our starting pitching, the holes on the field are huge. Our fielding is consistently poor at SS, RF, 1B and 2nd. I'm still hopeful that Keaschall will become a good 2nd baseman. We knew the relief pitching would be poor as well. Let's hope the youngsters at AAA are ready to go. I'd like to see Emma and Culpepper called up sooner rather than later to shore up the defense and hopefully hitting.- 32 replies

Actually, that depends on who is called up. Kaelen Culpepper is an upgrade at shortstop and Emanuel Rodriguez would be an upgrade in RF.

I am 100% on board with that call out. Emanuel Rodriguez hit his 4th dinger yesterday at 117 MPH. He should be in the Twins lineup in one of the corner positions. And Kaelen Culpepper ought to get a chance at Shortstop. NOW!

I saw a comment about moving Royce to first base pretty soon. I think that is interesting and the Twins would need to do a good job of demonstrating to Royce that it's a good move for him. Certainly his fielding at first base ought to be an improvement over our current options. Moving Lee to 3rd (maybe temporarily) and bringing up Culpepper seems like an interesting move. It might be rushing Culpepper, but why not try? This also enables Ben Ross to move up to St. Paul (almost wrote Rochester...jeez) and Marek Houston moves up to Wichita. Moving Royce to first base is probably the end of the line for Clemens. Oh well. Obviously moves in the Outfield need to take place. Get Outman out of there and decide how best to get Wallner unlocked.

I am looking forward to the next re-ranking of Twins Prospects. Of course, I'm referencing Ben Ross. Wow!

That is the easy route. I would MUCH prefer Culpepper. Maybe for only a week. Plenty of players could come off the roster to make room.

I am a huge fan of the guy. There have been very few players who are as electric when healthy. I get that he hasn't been healthy as much as anyone would like, but the guy is a joy to watch. I sincerely hope he remains with the Twins, but more importantly for Buck, that he does what is best for he and his family.

Depends on whether he increases his value. Probably an ok relief pitcher but not much. The Twins are going nowhere and need to increase their athleticism/fielding. Let's see what the youngsters can do. Outman is definitely in the way. Wallner...who knows?

Hopefully Larnach is increasing his trade value. He still has an iron glove and is in the way of all 4 outfielders at St. Paul.

I'm glad that Larnach is hitting pretty well. Because he is a poor fielder, I haven't changed my perspective that he is in the way of the youngsters who look to be two way players. I hope that Larnach is increasing his trade value and the Twins take advantage of that.

Depending on the need, I could see Klein as the first pitching call up.

Will Tristan Gray Take (Part of) Brooks Lee's Job?
Jeff K replied to Ray Stuedemann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's early...we all know it. Culpepper is off to a very nice start at St. Paul, just as he performed at A & AA. Two weeks from now, if nothing has changed, I would just as soon let him continue his journey with the Twins and send Lee to St. Paul. Let Lee figure things out at AAA. Is that rushing Culpepper? Maybe. If he doesn't do well, then you send him back to St. Paul. I would rather roll the dice on the guy with the higher ceiling and that is Kaelen Culpepper who is seemingly more major league ready than Lee. -
Trevor Larnach needing to play in the outfield perfectly encapsulates the Twins poor roster construction. It's been a huge mistake adding to our dh depth (Bell) and not improving the Twins athleticism to the greatest extent possible. Saving a trade, shortsop was always going to be an athletic problem until Culpepper was ready. But the Twins should have gone with their young outfielders to support Buxton. They could have had an athletic outfield, but had to hang onto Larnach and add Bell (another dh). I can't comprehend how professionals could make such decisions.

I thought this was the Twins best deadline trade. Still remains to be seen, but Jax has been bad both games thus far and Bradley indeed has electric stuff.

Echoes of 2017 Could Guide the 2026 Minnesota Twins
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins have a chance to be decent this season and i'm always hopeful. That said, I'm not really buying the comparison. The 2017 Twins could catch the ball. i don't think this team will be as good defensively. (to put it nicely). The bullpen can improve if the Twins convert a couple of starters...David Festa for one.- 13 replies

Can the 2026 Twins Avoid Being a Disaster Defensively?
Jeff K replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You beat me to the punch. I think the Twins will be mediocre defensively, but not as bad as advertised. Bell is not good at first, so that part is true. I think Keaschall is too good an athlete to not improve at 2nd. I think he will improved considerably. Lee appears to have made modest improvements. Lewis looks solid at 3rd. Martin looked very good in spring training in left field and much improved in Center. He seems greatly improved and I would bet on his athleticsm coupled with more experience. Buxton is Buxton and maybe, just maybe, Wallner is less of a disaster in right. I think Wallner is our best bet to rebound from a disappointing season.
