Former Twin Carson McCusker Finds Opportunity with Rakuten

Good for Carson. He continues to make a living doing what he loves to do. -

And at the managers level; a great manager helps his/her team to perform beyond normal expectations. Popkins was likely held back by Falvey, but he clearly did not get his players to perform to expectations. That said, he was a scapegoat for Ownership and Falvey's failures. -
Twins Should Look to Baltimore for First Base Help
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've seen a couple of comments that indicate Lopez or Ryan for Mayo. Glad they are not the GM. Ober would be worth it to see if Mayo can perform. I like Ober, but his loss of velocity is a big concern. -

What Should the Twins Do About the Middle Infield?
Jeff K replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That is an interesting plan. With that in mind, the Twins have so many promising young outfielders, that I would like to see them in left and right field next season. I still think Keaschall can be a solid 2nd baseman. That leaves the problem at SS. I think the Twins ceiling in 26 is decent; but not in contention for anything other than a possibly watered down central. I'm willing to wait at SS for Culpepper to be ready. If he doesn't develop as hoped/expected, then the Twins have to make a move at SS.- 84 replies

I really want the Twins to move Larnach. I don't dislike Larnach and he is relatively solid. But I want the Twins to give our young outfielders a true chance.

Happily, you are right. I was only somewhat concerned regarding Fedko. However, with the Twins needs at First Base, I think Fedko is worthy of a good look in spring training. and that would have made him worthy of protection. Our options are bleak at first base and the Twins indicated they are not considering moving Larnach or Wallner to the position.

That's the bottom line for all responses. We are fans and don't know as much as the team. What is your point? You could make this comment on every single response. That said, Gasper, Kreidler, Outman and possibly Julien are guys that I don't see adding value to the Twins. And yes, THAT IS AN OPINION! Happily, Culpepper and Fedko were not taken.

I am very concerned about Culpepper and somewhat concerned about Fedko. As Tony & Rodney pointed out, there were plenty of players protected that have no chance of a meaningful contribution to the big club.

Forgetting the numbers. If the window for success were open, you could consider another old rental. The Twins either need to develop a young first baseman, convert an existing player to first or trade for a young, controllable player. The window is not open, so another one year rental makes no sense to me.

I'm with you on nearly all of this. I really think that Jax was just bad last year. While the metrics are saying bad luck, his sample size of getting crushed was significant. I think that trade is a win; however, as you and others have stated, we need a couple of years to know.

I hate the idea of Byron leaving, but no one could possibly blame him. I do quibble with the premise of the article that Correa pushed his way out. I feel pretty darned sure that the Twins knew they could not reload, rebuild (however you want to put it) with his albatross of a contract hanging over them.

I would very much like Roden and Fedko to get a shot at first base. They could both bomb there, but was is there to lose given the current roster?

100% agree. Fedko and Culpepper are at risk and why? Certainly not for so many of the guys still on the roster. I think the Twins started Fedko a few times this year at some level. I wonder if he demonstrated any aptitude for it.

No to Goldschmidt. The Twins need to solve first base long term. Probably from an existing minor leaguer in the system. Trade Larnach, for anything. I wouldn't have tendered him. I'm not the fan of Raya that many seem to be. Definitely need to convert some starters including Prielipp to relief. Give the keys to the youngsters in the Outfield + Buxton (if he is still here). I would trade Ryan, but only for a kings ransom.

Pintar is a definite no as we already have prospects that might be better. Jordan and Rumfield look very interesting and I think it would make sense to try and grab one of them. The twins situation at first base in frankly in dire need of help. Julien is not a major league player and Clemens is best as a twice a week utility player.
