  1. There are no sure things in sports, but Paddack is a great bet as a starter. His upside is higher than Maeda's.
  2. This is exactly the point. The payroll is constrained and the Twins must add a quality starter and this is more important than retaining the two headed catching approach. I like having two starting catchers, but the Twins have told us they can't afford it.
  3. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I think this is going to be Julien's position. His defense is improving and the guy looks to be a quality professional hitter.

    Seattle wants Polanco

None of us know, but Seattle seems as good a guess as any to make a move for Polanco or Farmer. Farmer can play both positions and will cost less. I'd like to see the Twins keep Farmer for that very flexibility over Polanco.
  5. Looks like trade is the best, and likely only, avenue for getting a solid starter. Tigers paid a Premium for an older pitcher. I don't think he is worth it. And now the Cardinals paid $75 Million over 3 years for Gray. The market is pretty goofy. Was hoping it would take $65 million over 3 years for Gray. Clearly too rich for the Twins. They NEED to make a big trade as you can't lose two starters and not expect regression.
  6. I've said it before, Kirilloff might need to move back to the Outfield.
  7. I think Vazquez as a back up catcher and his salary is a luxury that the Twins don't need with Camargo appearing to be ready to back up Jeffers.
  8. The Twins outfield depth is questionable. Kirilloff can move back to the outfield to help alleviate that, although his injury history is a concern. That said, I do think the Twins should sell while his value is high primarily because this is his last year of his contract. I don't think extending Kepler makes sense as our depth is a year or two away and I don't think the Twins can trust Kepler's 2nd half to carryover. It's all gambling when you make these moves, but opening up payroll with Kepler and Polanco should be helpful especially in unlocking our young infield talent where we have excellent depth.
  9. I agree. I also think that they may need to keep Kepler for that very reason. They could move Kirilloff back to the OF, but that raises questions too.
  10. Thanks for the data. I ought to have said, the Twins outfield is not exceptional and I think if the Twins want to go far, they need to upgrade at least one OF position. Buxton is the only outfielder that could be exceptional and I doubt that any of us are placing bets there.
  11. I don't think the Twins are above average in any of their outfield positions unless Buxton miraculously becomes healthy. Our depth is infield based.
  12. I agree on your Polanco/Farmer comments. I would add that polanco has a higher salary AND is a stronger trade piece. I think that makes him more likely to be traded.
  13. Fully agree with your comments. I would also add that i think Polanco is very likely to be traded. While that won't bring a starting slot for Farmer, it makes his role even more critical.
  14. I can't see Castro getting optioned. he is younger, has greater positional flexibility and is coming off of a strong year. And he appears to be a better fielder.
  15. I agree about Camargo. I actually think with payroll being cut, there is a chance that Vazquez gets traded as it is a luxury to carry two starting catchers.
  16. Seriously. And the Papi decision took place so long ago as to be entirely irrelevant.
  17. Not even a little bit. I would be stunned if any team grabbed him. And if they did...ok
  18. I believe Varland should be a reliever. Any article that claims that Dobnak should be considered for a role on the team loses me immediately!
  19. I agree with keeping Farmer and moving on from Miranda. I can't help but believe Kirilloff should stay. I know, I know...the injuries.
  20. Mostly agree, although we have no idea what value Gordon brings going forward.
  21. Great article and I also agree with your comments. I certainly believe Polanco should be traded. As you stated, the issue with Kepler is the lack of depth in outfield positions. Certainly Kirilloff can move back to the outfield which would likely happen if Kepler is traded. Lastly, with Vasquez, the Twins are carrying two starting quality catchers and while that is beneficial, I think with a salary strapped team, it is too much of a luxury. I would move Vasquez before moving Kepler and I think he has more years remaining on his contract.
  22. At the risk of sounding like Pollyanna: I think the Twins have a shot at Gray. His contract could land in the 3 years totaling 60 to 65 Million. I know the Twins are reducing salary, but with all the free agents departing they could handle this contract if they look at moving Polanco where we have a surplus of players on the rise.
