Alcala is starting to look “Stewart like” with his stuff and generally ….better control. It’s all about throwing strikes with him. Glad to see him at least progressing.

Am a fan of Farmer’s …..Twins fan in Cincinnati…..watch most games. His base running reeks of desperation to do something positive and he’s on base relatively seldom - I think he’s pressing but it HAS TO STOP! It’s unprofessional and is hurting the Team. He’s a veteran and has to be smarter than this.

I’m encouraged that Festa threw 6 innings and not 4 plus! His stuff seems to be playing well over the past couple months. Varland hasn’t been passed in the Twin’s mind. He just threw 5 shutout innings in the Show this week…..Rockies aren’t great but they trump the Bats. He’s backup for depth today as well with the doubleheader. I do think Festa gets a start prior to All-star break. I think it’s going to be a cold day in ….. before Vazquez gets moved off the roster for a AAA player that’s OK in a Divisional playoff race.

Matt Wallner Is Finally Finding Himself at Triple-A
JD-TWINS replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Relative to Martin & his hitting……I’d take Arraez type of approach an 40-50 less points with that approach. .270BA is a professional hitter that contributes - not a star but a contributor. That said Margot (.371 over last 23 games) and Farmer (.192, up from .085 on May 1) are going nowhere unless injured. Wallner for Martin is logical by July 4th if Wallner maintains real positives at the plate - need the LH balance since 75% of opposing pitching is right handed. -
Canterino is perpetually hurt - too bad - but it’s reality.

Don’t see any deals for these guys…….. Ottavino is of interest but not a bunch different than Alcala - Staumont - potentially Topa by 7/31/24? Twins starters OPS+ v. RH pitching: Larnach (111) - Buxton (99) - Kepler (118) Lewis (259) - CC (151) - Castro (118) - Santana (104) Jeffers - (129) - Miranda (119) Seems we should ride with these guys to me. Any one or three of Wallner/Julien/ Kirilloff/Lee could come forward to improve this current group…….don’t see trades being made for positional players. Margot - Farmer (Castro to left) subbed in for Larnach - Kepler - facing LH starting pitchers.

1) Margot - hitting .231 with a career average of .255 ………last night, broadcast mentioned he’s at .371 last 23 games. 2) Santana - hitting .227 (.242 career) with a 104 OPS+ and solid defense. …….unheralded walk last night v. one of Top 3 closers in the game - to tie the game!! 3) Farmer - hitting .192 & up from .085 about 5 weeks ago……headed toward career .255 BA. 4) Vazquez - hitting .183 and no real. vision of him getting much above .200……really good defense relative to League metrics & provides insurance through the season (modern day Phil Roof) 5) Jeffers - .233 (his career BA) and OK on defense - really good power, in streaks ……,he has regressed to the mean. (.199 & .208 BA in ‘21 & ‘22)…….hope he figures something out in next week or two - had hoped he may get an All-star nod as a reserve………that seems to be a real stretch! 6) Kirilloff - Wallner - Julien are the real disappointments ………all the guys above were to be role players…….these 3 were to be part of the CORE. 7) Lewis & Lee & even Duran/Topa/Stewart have had very limited to no availability. Seems to me the Team record and the management of the resources and the individual’s performances to date have been very positive.

Seriously, everything is the Manager’s fault? He had a torn quad - they have a scheduled level of activity for him, obviously. Nobody wants to write Lewis into the line-up more than Baldelli.

Margot was picked up to be a RH hitting platoon guy and for OF depth……,he’s a career .255 hitter …..BA for last 3 seasons has been .254, .274, & .264 ……he’s hitting .231 as of this morning…….he was at .130 about 5 weeks ago…they said on the broadcast that he’s hitting .371 over last 23 games. What’s the mean he’s regressing to? Jeffers is one of the worst hitters in the game for nearly a month - an epic spiral with a two homer game in the middle. W/o Vazquez to split the time, while continuing to be a top 10-12 defensive catcher it could really be ugly. Agreed, Duran & Sands were as good as it gets! Hope this is a continued upswing for Kepler & Buxton…..,they both look encouraging in the past couple games…….,Correa performing at a high level …..,hope he can maintain the energy……needs a day-off, maybe Sunday? Ober is sort of due today - fingers crossed.

Attitude - leadership - availability……he was a young guy on a World Series winner…..there’s value in having him around our young roster guys!! Worth something - intangible. Availability & hindsight is the real flaw in the other guy’s comments as you point out……as well as your point of what star players really cost. Lee - Lewis both out nearly the entire season to date - Absolutely sunk if they were penciled in as the designated “starters” ………Miranda appears to be back and has the real potential to be a valuable flex player, ongoing. Nobody knew he would perform to this level! My question is how far back does one turn the clock for this “reversal move “? End of ‘22? Middle of ‘23? Just before playoffs start in ‘23? …….obviously, taking him off our roster weakens the line-up - our team attitude - the team depth changes greatly.

“……saved the Team in the first half.” Yes, a bit strong BUT, a big time contributor and has definitely helped stabilize the staff. His uptick in velocity is nice and his effectiveness with the slider are the two key elements in his very good performances game to game. At 23, he’s a nice bright light for the Staff’s future. I’ve seen him pitch 3-4 times and his pitch mix keeps him from being a guy that “gets figured out by hitters” meaning as long as he continues to execute the way he has been, he should remain pretty effective! Look forward to his starts now instead of cringing at the thought - big change in my attitude over past 6 weeks.

Farmer is a month away from respectability ….Margot is around .280 v. LH pitching……Santana is 2nd on club in HR & RBI & definitely above average on defense. The disappointment is with ALL 3 young left handed bats being failures to date. The fact that all 3 are in St. Paul on June 14 is telling. Don’t see this as a FO failure.

4 Triple-A Hitters Ready to Upgrade the Twins' Offense
JD-TWINS replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I get this forum is to generate discussions but the Will Holland reach seems extreme to me. “He’s hitting for the first time……” 1st time, wow, doesn’t seem like a call-up candidate. He is 5’10” - 181lbs. with a 30% strike out rate and he’s elevated his BA at AAA to .256 in 88 total AB’s……….Eighty-Eight at bats at the AAA level, ever. Can’t imagine he’s in FO top 12 guys to consider calling up.- 37 replies

50% of the time he’s overrated……40% of the time he’s a high functioning guy that might be worth the $$ ……..10% of the time (the last week) he’s one of the best in all of baseball!!

I don’t exactly disagree on the adjustments or lack of, BUT Wallner & Julien were up a considerable stretch last year…….they got to see the “League’s adjustments” they dipped a bit and then countered………there’s only so many different ways to pitch a hitter with the repertoire each pitcher has - these guys just seem STUCK!

OR Miranda could be hitting .218 again with 3 XBH & Lewis could be hurt…….lots of ifs and buts and hindsight are available. We could have signed Blake Snell and then everyone would be pissed off about that spending. It’s all educated guessing and Correa definitely hasn’t been anywhere near below average trending toward pretty good. There are plenty of days that Kepler/Buxton at $26M seems to be awfully foolish as well. Gotta roll with it and hope youth balances the spending and output for the good.

Lindor is a roller coaster of performance - Turner and Swanson aren’t on the field as much as a Team would like to see - Bichette is more like Arraez, value but CC stacks up with him. Seager - Betts - Witt are among Top 10 Players in the game, they just happen to play SS. …….Henderson looks like he’ll be elite as well. Correa is solid defensively - he leads - and when his approach is right, he’s a .280 hitter with pop for the middle of the line-up. When his approach wanders he hits too many grounders to SS & his average dips to .240ish. I like his health & look in ‘24! He makes a bunch of $$$ so he’s got to be near perfect OR he’s considered overrated.

Not sure if they want to maintain control long enough to try & move him in July? I think he gets another shot to contribute but either up big, once again, or down big. No high leverage situation anytime soon.

ELEVEN hits from our 6-9 hitters today - that usually works out well!! Lopez looked a bit disinterested today. Maybe he just knew he had their number? Thielbar (I had stopped watching at 10-3) sounds like from comments and box score here, was not exactly sharp for a second straight day. Walk last night - walk today……that’s something he can’t get away with, unscathed. I had him possibly getting DFA’d this morning - definitely demoted to the “8th spot in pen” and looks like he reinforced those thoughts. Jay Jackson is back - gotta get some miles out of him if they’re going to pay him regardless, I guess? Saw a couple rollers Correa hit today to get to his 5 hit day - pretty fortunate but that’s OK, we’ll/he’ll take it for sure! An aside……after Tuesday night, how long before the Wallner (or anybody) for Kirilloff exchange is made? ALWAYS have been a supporter of Alex but he looked absolutely feeble at the plate on Tuesday and he’s hovering at .200, plus a bit. Needs a change of scenery and fans/Team needs to see a different LH hitting guy in LF!

How about the reliever not walking the guy & then grooving a fastball for a home run - how about some accountability from the veteran pitcher…….he’s been good at times, he was horrible last night & that’s not on the Manager. I can give up 4 runs and get zero outs.

Completely agree - he’s going nowhere & when he performs there’s no reason to get down on him. A sacrifice fly to score a run is a good play every time!!! I did see J.T. Realmuto had to get knee surgery, impromptu. Probably out 8 weeks. Did see this as a possible avenue to move Vazquez to a highly competitive team with $$. Just a thought. I routinely point out that if Jeffers got hurt and Twins didn’t have Vazquez they’d be sunk!
