  1. Castro, while termed “a Utility guy” plays/starts essentially everyday somewhere. His growth offensively (apparent or real?) seems to be continuing. His contract is not expensive & if they could extend him at same $7M for 2-3 years it would be a good move.
  2. I am an eternal optimist relative to the Twins - they are 2 1/2 out of a Wildcard spot and cannot play any worse……..that said they are also 12th in a 15 team League. That’s brutal!!! All winter I, among many others, said the offense needed one SOLID addition ………France has plugged a hole - Bader has plugged a hole and then some - bullpen (w/o Wentz - Alcala - Bride’s & Funderburk’s innings, has good stats) - starters have been serviceable at the very least. The number of games at 3 runs or less is insurmountable. Bride & Keirsey on our roster for extended periods is embarrassing, regardless of other’s health. Keaschall & Lewis and some emergence of a reasonable output from Wallner can get things going but time is running short. If things don’t get to .500 or better in 3-4 weeks even I will have to punt. I still think, am hopeful, that “buyer” at deadline is logical with 1/3 of the season remaining at that point.
  3. Who else is Rocco going to use when down 7 or 8? Wentz …….”….he keeps using him” seriously? I too think Wentz should go but Baldelli didn’t roster him. The #8 guy picks up bulk innings when team is out of it (Wentz - Dobnack - “whoever”)……..0-7 with RISP is out of it ….. nearly every day.
  4. I think “execution”…….. in this streak there’s a 16 run game - 16 run game - 17 run game - 9 run game……….while it’s nothing to be proud of, these 4 contests skew the last 15 games and associated ERA. Wentz is a scrap heap guy that will be gone soon if he isn’t already and him, coupled with Bride had to give 15 of those runs in 2-3 games. Not great but not all bad.
  5. Can’t disagree too much. As a fan and being faithful to the talent, I feel worse things were said in April & May about the Club……..and then they were 6-7 games over and in 2nd place. I am not relying on nor expect another 10 game winning streak but they are 2 games under and they’ve got 76 games behind them with 86 to go. I think that with Keaschall and Lewis they actually have a chance to play the last 70 games at 10 games over .500. If they can muster .500 by the break they will be in the mix or can be…….if they are 5 under at the break there could be some moves late next month. Not very likely though as our relievers will only bring limited value in return. OWNERSHIP being in flux doesn’t help the Roster, Players frame of mind, nor the fans level of optimism. It’s a problem!!
  6. It is difficult to watch a Team that cannot seem to bunt in any situation, ever. A piece of the game is missing. The inability to steal bases or attempt it is a more glaring Roster flaw……if they were top 8 in HR it could be tolerable, but slow and impotent is a problem! Gotta be real though - creating problems from game situations just to be able to fill more words in the article is equally frustrating. Bader on 1B with one out and Wallner at the plate & he lines out……..if Bader runs it has Zero impact in the positioning of the 2B or him “moving”……with LH bat up the SS is almost directly behind 2B and covering ever time with any LH batter…..baseball 101. No need to create more of a stir with the Team’s shortcomings with additional strife about their play & how “things might have been better.”
  7. There are 15 Teams in the AL & over half of them have a better defensive CF than Byron Buxton………..to me, that’s hard to imagine. France is filling a big void at 1B after Santana signed back with Cleveland. His offense (solid not spectacular) and his defense has to make him one of the Top Shelf in FA “value signings” in all of baseball at $1M!
  8. I would go deeper and say Correa, while not supplying any punch in the line-up, has been tolerable to this point……with the assumption that he’ll continue to work his way back to his norm. Lewis & WALLNER are the two that are significantly underperforming. I had expectations for Wallner entering the season. I was at the game yesterday, and his fluid batting average, before his lone hit in 4th PA was close to .200. He should be providing offense……..he’s not, at all. Clemens has 99 AB’s & 7 HR’s & 25 K’s…. 12 total XBH. Wallner has 111 AB’s & 5 HR & 36 K’s ……13 total XBH. Clemens was a DFA free agent pick-up……to me, Wallner should be out performing Clemens by a fair bit! Lewis, back by August 1st? …..and then what to expect??
  9. WALLNER - zero contribution for 3 weeks. LEWIS - non factor KEASCHALL - only contributing youth, & out for 4 more weeks 2 runs - 1 run - few gifted runs - 2 runs over last 4 games…….no runs/no wins LOPEZ - out 45 more days I do think the pitching can keep things competitive - maybe naive or too hopeful? Offense is brutal …… if they can play .500 ball through the All-star break they have a chance. If not, some trades may actually be made late next month? Most guys, other than prior mentioned Wallner, Lewis…….CC too, are doing what one would expect. Buxton & Castro are as good as they get to date! CC will get to .260 eventually but his lack of pop is a run scoring problem…. Wallner & Lewis …..& eventually Keaschall need to help propel some run scoring!!
  10. “Many teams are making productive trades at the moment……” ……other than Devers to Giants????? It’s June 16th. I can’t think of any other trades in ‘25 season that have happened, of note?
  11. He got sent down for 2 plus months to get his act together before having a pretty good 2nd half……he came back from injury HOT & has been declining steadily after his first week back. “Great hitter” is embellishing a bit …..his recent steep decline is an issue!
  12. The offense scored 2 runs and 1 run respectively in last two losses. On Friday, if someone told you the TWINS were going to score 1 & 2 runs over the weekend games, would you have bet any money on the Team winning either game? Every loss can’t be on the Manager. Wallner’s average has dropped 50 points in 10 days………he has 5 HR in 31 games & 102 AB’s. Royce Lewis has been terrible & is hurt a second time. Correa has been better but nothing special. Miranda & Julien have contributed zero. Duran can’t get a hold & loses a tie game Saturday & enters Sunday’s game and walks the lead-off hitter on 4 pitches with a one run lead. Players have to play well or the Team will lose!!
  13. Throwing to the right base and the knowledge and capability to do it properly is developed when a kid is 10 - 12 - 16 - 20 …….. certainly shouldn’t be a question mark for someone in their late 20’s making $7M per year in the Show? The left fielder knows when a 2B should cover the bag on a steal - where they should throw the ball - etc. If fans know where the proper play should be made the player surely knows….. definitely shouldn’t know. If you & I are in our Lazyboy and, I assume, are both screaming at our TV’s because we cannot believe where Castro threw the ball …… that’s 110% on the knucklehead player!!! The Manager/coaching staff can’t hold the player’s hands on every play. I guarantee that Brooks Lee - Vazquez - France - Duran were all wondering what the hell Castro was doing. Responsibility to catch the ball and to throw to the right base is on the player. There’s no outfield practice that makes the catch of a ball 7ft in the air at the fence at the end of a sprint any easier…….he makes the play or not. A regular left fielder may have played it better but is that Larnach?……Bader can’t play all 3 OF spots if Buxton is hurt.
  14. Was Buxton pulled from a game in Houston after getting hit on the elbow or not? I’m confused.
  15. At some point in a tight game the Closer has to end the game……..walking the lead-off hitter on 4 pitches has nothing to do with SWR getting taken out (whenever), nor the Manager. Period. Score some runs or pitch perfectly………SWR leaving the game had Zero to do with the outcome!
  16. Makes sense to bring up Kiersey as Buxton is dinged a bit and Castro slots into the IF ……,2B with Lee & Bride covering 3B. McCusker is a longer shot…….probably need POTENTIAL offensive upside more than defensive OF depth!
  17. While I agree that our offense could be much better ………Brown had a 1.76 ERA entering the game v. other Teams. The line from the author that one bullpen would lose and the other would win can certainly be applied to the two offenses as well! We gotta make something happen …..Abreu threw one or two strikes each AB and went to 3-2 three times and we couldn’t be disciplined enough to walk…….I get he throws 100 but Teams seem to be able to walk off Duran when he’s not in the zone. Closer misses from Abreu, but the 3rd straight time he threw a slider out of the zone on 3-2, we gotta play the % and “take”, IMO.
  18. Who gets the call to replace Alcala on the roster? Do they reach into the Randy Dobnack bag again? I have no idea how he’s been in St Paul? ………good experience to get from here to All-star break, maybe?……,…...I’m curious.
  19. Coulombe - Jax - Sands all fresh for this afternoon………goods news. Varland did a nice job working out of trouble last night - good to see. Front Office: To me, they’re given little to no credit for doing their job…..at a nice level. Pulled the trigger on moving away from the weak link within a very good Bullpen….good luck to Jorge! Bader - France - Coulombe - Stewart - Castro all FA guys they’ve acquired. Not a bad list as of June 12, 2025. Topa is doing what was expected/anticipated when he was central figure in trade with Seattle. Carlos Santana has a .350 OBP & is repeating his very good 2024, for $12M …….Luis Arraez is having a somewhat “off season” for him from a BA standpoint at around .280, for $14M ……..Ty France has similar BA to Arraez, he has better pop & little better OBP - maybe better defense at 1B as well, for $1M. Seems that the FO’s signing here doesn’t get much credit. I do think France & Bader will regress somewhat as the season wears on but they sure have (affordably) helped get Team to where they are today - in the playoff hunt. Nice moves by FO.
  20. Wallner - Larnach - Buxton - Castro - Bader Probably the best offensive collection of 5 guys across MLB that form an outfield!! Buxton & Bader, while aging somewhat, are still both very, very good defensively. These 5 guys are going nowhere.
  21. Most of these guys are just names on paper. McCusker - Kiersey - Gonzalez have done nothing but bring emergency depth due to injury. Keaschall seems to be more of an infield piece……..he’s for real and will take Bride’s roster spot at some point after All-star break. Winokor seems to have real upside & Jenkins upside is obvious! Both are possibilities/probabilities in 2027. Emma’s lack of contributions get masked by a nice OBP. To me, he hasn’t done much to differentiate what we’ve seen before with Eddie Julien ……..somewhat of a house of cards……. continual strikeouts & injuries really make me apprehensive to get excited about his potential with Big Club.
  22. What’s the point? Team doesn’t need to be auditioning guys for 2 week stints. They’ll need a 40 man spot when Keaschall comes off the 60 day IL……..seems Bride is in until then……another 5 weeks, give or take. How about getting more than 18 AB’s at AAA this year before jumping him to the roster? Clemens - Lee - Castro all ahead of him at 2B (Keaschall coming) - he’s not displacing anyone at SS.
  23. Vazquez - if he hits .225 or better he’s a positive contributor - $6-7M for continuity in ‘26 and his defense and great bench presence/attitude……worth serious consideration!
  24. Lewis could be the best hitter in baseball batting after the Four hole in the line-up …….give it til the All-Star Break ………if he hits .260 going forward instead of .130 it will give the offense a huge lift! By adding him and Wallner, along with Keaschall in another 5-6 weeks, the offense should be solid and sustainable.
  25. I get it - because there are so many disciplinarian Managers - real hard asses in the game today. Not! Gotta get out of 1976. Managers today coddle above average players, essentially across every sport……particularly in baseball. Our Utility guy makes more than the Manager does and because of the income/power disparity the players generally do what they will and it may occasionally draw “a discussion with the Manager” ……. there’s no Jim Leland or Tony LaRussa or Dick Williams or Lou Piniella or Tom Kelly walking in the door at Target nor in any other stadium in MLB. Sure, there are different cultures and different organizations have varying levels of accountability but I don’t think there’s a disciplinarian Mgr. in the game any longer. Problems w/star in Atlanta - Problems w/star & Mets - Bochte is probably as close as it gets and he gets respect due to 4 Series Wins - that buys a lot! Seldom do Teams move runners along with hit & run (maybe 3-4 in the game) nor does anyone bunt to get on base nor do pitchers throw into the 7th or 8th routinely, if ever, nor do guys get benched or chewed out when they don’t hustle or make basic base-running mistakes or throw to the wrong base or miss a cutoff man, It’s a different day and has been for some time. Not going back……,It’s not a “Twin’s thing”. Rocco isn’t throwing the ball when Jax is in the game - Rocco’s not giving up an insurance run for the opponent in the 9th, that’s Duran - Rocco’s not the guy that’s not coming through (repeatedly) w/RISP……..players have to perform and to think that something the Manager has to “say” or his “demeanor” is going to elevate a player’s ability to hit a baseball or command a pitch is nuts, IMO.
