Did Edouard Julien Sell Out Too Much for Power?
BsuNemo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah - because the Twins have given those teams 13 wins!! Detroit and KC aren't above 500 if we don't lose to them - that is a bent statistic to feel better about a terrible start. To think those two teams are "tough competition" shows just how terrible we did this off-season and are doing right now that KC and Detroit can be considered teams that are better that we are.- 36 replies

Did Edouard Julien Sell Out Too Much for Power?
BsuNemo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would say they ruined Buxton as well. He had the leg kick issues but when he fixed that he was driving the ball to the gaps. I don't remember which year it was but he was going into June with a .300+ ba (got hurt of course) and nearly every night he had a gapper and with his speed he was scoring from second any hit to the outfield. Instead he's now a 30+ hr guy with a 35% strike out rate and an obp under .300.. and 80% of his homers are solo shots. Julien hit at every level in the minors, so did Larnach. Martin only started hitting better after he tried "their" way and went back in AFL to his own approach. I just struggle to believe that at a professional level they can't individualize each person's approach to hitting to their strengths. I do this on the high school basketball court and I've only got two hours a day with them and two other jobs! I'm ready to see a different management group with the same players and a different approach.- 36 replies

Out analytic'd ourselves again... Cuz okert is better than a focused ober right? Ober has never gotten a lefty out? This is the same offense we saw last year until Lewis showed up. No adjustments in approach. We haven't hit well since Rowson left and those that do hit well in the minors haven't translated at all (outside of Lewis) at the major league level. Little growth and lots of regression. We again start the year unwatchable. Hopefully as the weather heats up we figure something out.

What are the analytics on players over thinking analytics. I think they're in their own heads. I know it's not that easy but I think, especially in baseball, too much thinking it's not a good thing. See ball, hit ball right?

Does anyone have any idea where the twins rank in terms of minor league age? It seems like we leave these guys that are putting up incredible numbers in the minors FOR.... EVVVVER... even the ones that are fast tracked to AA and AAA seem to sit there for years. And then we bring in "proven" veterans that really haven't proved much at all. With some of the guys we have in the minors I really struggle with bringing Margot in, keeping Farmer, Vasquez etc , those kinds of moves. Is it just me or are we the slowest moving team in terms of bringing kids up??

Brewers 3, Twins 2: Rally Runs Short for Minnesota
BsuNemo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I know it's early... Least runs scored, least hits in spring training in the AL... They showed a stat about teams that finish at the bottom of spring training only one of the bottom 8 (or maybe it was bottom 6) in spring training last year made the playoffs. I'm very concerned with our offense. Some of it may be on the players but I think some is on the hitting coach and general approach to hitting and some is on the way Rocco, predictably, pulls his best players early in the game because of a single inning match up. Teams read this like a book by now. I love watching baseball, especially when the twins are playing great... I'm scared that the pitching will need to carry us and we're not as good of a staff as last year...- 95 replies

I'll just echo what others have said - I have full confidence that Paddock could be very good, I don't have full confidence that he can make it through the entire year without issue. Ober has had issues, Ryan has had issues. Even Lopez has had issues in his career. We can't have 5 starters and then dig through the minors hoping to connect. I think someone like Lorenzen lessens the blow if we do have someone go down for any sort of time. Also, I know most want to see Varland as a starter but with Duran out for probably all of April, I'm not opposed to Varland crushing the 8th inning either. His stuff definitely played up out of the pen last year.

Do the Twins Have Baseball’s Best Bullpen?
BsuNemo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Deepest maybe - good, yes - best? I'm thinking not quite but they'll be solid and will be able to withstand an injury or two to someone that isn't Duran.- 39 replies

Five Remaining Free-Agent Fits For The Twins
BsuNemo replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The right answer is Snell, Bellinger and Hader. This immediately makes the twins a world series contender. Without the commitment to do this, Soler at 3 and 36, Hoskins on a 1 year 15 with an option year for around that and Stroman at 2 for 36 would be the poor man's version of "going for it" with the addition of a cheap relief pitcher. Soler and Hoskins could combine for 65+ home runs, Stroman (if he stays healthy) could be a very strong #2. This would mean Kep and Polo are probably gone though but maybe for a relief pitcher or two. We still keep our prospects this way as well. The truth is we will probably spend less than 10mil more than what we've already got and try to figure the rest out with trades and youth - which doesn't give world series contender vibes.- 47 replies

I'm in on Bellinger before any of the above mentioned (obviously for Soto it's because of cost and not ability). I do think we trade some major prospects for a big name hitter this year. Just don't think any of the above will make that much of an impact on this team.

An Offseason To-Do List for the Minnesota Twins
BsuNemo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I thought this exactly - we don't get "more baserunners" by trying to "pulverize the ball" with two strikes. They always come across as knowing better but sometimes they make adjustments without admitting they were wrong - ie pulling starters early in 2022 and killing the BP; coming out in the offseason before 2023 and saying they would still pull starters "if needed" then they decided they didn't "need" to pull them as much any more. This was their way of going, "our experiment didn't work but we won't admit it" - hopefully this happens with the hitting too.- 76 replies

4 Things That Went Wrong for the Twins in the Playoffs
BsuNemo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Second fewest runs scored out of the playoff teams - second worst team batting average with runners in scoring position - most strikeouts in the history of the league. But my point was that we struggle against mediocre pitching and we had some success against the good pitchers we faced. -
4 Things That Went Wrong for the Twins in the Playoffs
BsuNemo replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just about every third comment in here mentions us struggling against good pitching - we struggled against mediocre pitching because of our strikeouts. The three good to great pitchers we faced (Gausman, Verlander and Valdez) we hit well. We got shut down by two Astros pitchers that struggled all year. The best teams in the league are not three-outcome teams - yes Houston hits home runs but they also make contact which gives them a chance of getting singles doubles and triples. You don't win playoff series hoping for three walks and a dinger. It just doesn't happen. As negative as that sounds - Rocco changed his philosophy on his starter and bullpen usage from last year to this... I'm still not a fan but he looks to be showing growth. My hope is we fix the "it's okay to strikeout" philosophy next year and communicate a different thought process to our hitters. We are a really talented team, and we're young and we've got more guns coming up. I look forward to the off season and think we'll be back here next year with some less-than-major tweaks. -
This is why I wanted them to give a good hard look at Bellinger at the trade deadline and then sign an extension. He fixes that. I think he's too expensive this winter to get though.

ALDS Game 3: Astros (Javier) v Twins (Gray), 10/10 @ 3:07pm CT

ALDS Game 3: Astros (Javier) v Twins (Gray), 10/10 @ 3:07pm CT
BsuNemo replied to Squirrel's topic in Archived Game Threads
Nothing like being the trail cart at a cross country race at...4:00 today. Better get up early so I don't feel like I'm missing anything. If Sonny gets those shadows he becomes unhittable. Keep the ball in the ball park like you've done all year, be patient with Javier and fill up the bases then get a few timely hits. My jilted Minnesota fandom has me saying this is the one we're supposed to win but we will lose. My belief that this team has some Kirby and 91 magic in them is fighting that thought. -
I'm thinking with all the crying the high seeds are doing maybe we just give the 5th and 6th seed the first round bye and have the 1 seed play the 4 and the 2 seed play the 3 in a 3 game series right?? In all seriousness, maybe the high seeds just need to prepare differently. They get to set up their starting rotation, get guys to rest a bit and can run through whatever practice schedule they'd like for the bye week. Teams should make the adjustments, not MLB.

I forget there's off days - It is just nice to have that second lefty. With Lewis dealing with his hammy and MAT coming off a hammy issue and did Castro have a hammy issue too?? it would be nice to have someone to pinch run late in games.

We can't throw Theilbar every game so I think Funderburk needs to stay. Paddack is probably the odd man out if we bump a pitcher for Ober. No to Buck - best wishes for a return to health and centerfield next year Ober with a quick hook for Maeda in game one Lopez game two Gray game three Ryan game four My fear is Lopez vs lefty Valdez - that could end up a 1-0 or 2-1 game.

Carlos Correa is Proving He is Worth Every Penny
BsuNemo replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He'll hit better next year. He'll continue to lead this year. He'll teach the Royce Lewis's, Juliens, Brooks Lee's of the world how to become winners. $200 million isn't that much in a long term contract any more and we all know the Twin's have that kind of money to spend. Loved the signing when they got him back and still love it. -
Starter Order for ALDS - What Would You Do?
BsuNemo commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
I know Maeda has pitched out of the BP in playoffs before and I know he accepts that role if need be but I just feel like he has pitched just as good, if not better than both Ober and Ryan (no, I didn't go check the numbers so maybe my "feels" are wrong) and I really like experience in the playoffs. I DO NOT like Ryan game one. I do like Lopez vs Houston #2 and Gray vs Houston #3 - I'd love to see Ober, Lopez, Gray, Maeda and have Ryan and Paddock as long relief if anything goes sideways. -
I'll talk out of both side of my mouth here - first, pulling Berrios was wrong. It is the prime example of having an analytics driven machine run the game for a team without the ability to read the situation and adapt. Berrios was on fire and you play the hot hand but.....that move did not cost them the game and it put the Twins in situations later in the game that very well might have cost us more runs. The thought was the Twins would lose bench options and their best lineup early in the game if they brought in Kikuchi and that is EXACTLY and PREDICTABLY what happened. The Twins score 2 runs and struggled to make any hard contact all night and had Castro up in big situations that Wallner would've been better suited for. Toronto fans can arguably point to two other situations that cost them the game just as much as pulling Berrios...the pickoff at 2nd and the bases loaded double play off a pitcher that didn't have any all season. I'm not even sure what I'm saying but I do know...I hate analytics driven baseball that doesn't have any space for the feel of the game.

Twins Announce Wild Card Roster
BsuNemo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll argue it in the sense that Baldelli once again underperformed the pythogorean wins/losses. The only season he has met or exceeded was 2019 with a juiced ball. There were games left on the table this year because of his "strategy" we can't afford that in the playoffs.- 53 replies

She has bucked Baldelli in those situations pretty much all year long. We can't get stuck with AK and Julien on the bench in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings.- 53 replies
