  1. If Gibson record three more consecutive no-hit innings, he gets credit for the no-hitter, right?
  2. I think the real story here is that Seth knew this was happening waaay before anyone else.
  3. Lynn has posted 3+ WAR the last three years he has pitched; 2017, 2015, and 2014. The Twins have had exactly one pitcher post 3+ WAR in each of the past four seasons; Ervin, Ervin, Gibson, and Hughes. In short, Lynn is likely to be one of the best two pitchers on the team this year. Add to it the fact that he was signed for a single year at a bargain price, this is an excellent signing. There is almost nothing not to like about this deal. Well done, Thad Levine.
  4. The Twins have spent years without having a strong, consistent option (and in particular, that is a power threat) from the DH spot. There have been many many days that the DH has been a utility infielder or even the back-up catcher. Morrison probably won’t hit 38 home runs this season. (We said that about Dozier last year too.) But his signing, his left-handedness, his on-base/slugging combo - on a cheap contract with an option - is a huge win for the Twins, and a great step in the direction of fielding the strongest line-up possible. I see nothing not to like about this move. Well done, Thad Levine. And Odorizzi, too, if he really played a role.
  5. Yes, and just wait until they trade Archer to the Twins!
  6. If he has a good year, I’m guessing he jumps into the top 10 nationally.
  7. The argument is that the cost for Odorizzi was not steep because a) he is not good, or b ) the Rays really value Palacios (and thus the cost was in fact steep, c) Palacios is really good, or d) Rays were just shedding payroll. To these arguments, I say: a) maybe, time will tell how good he is. But if he isn’t, this isn’t something to get worked up over b ) maybe, but even if so, why didn’t the Rays get more than Palacios, even if they think Palacios is the next Miguel Tejada c) maybe, if so great, the Twins have a hugely deep farm system and are using it to improve a clear area of need d) maybe, in which case the Twins lucked out, especially that the Rays didn’t shop him more extensively looking for a better deal. In any event, I still like the trade, think they got a rotation upgrade with potential for upside for peanuts, and think it will work out as a win for the Twins. Now, random note...was Odorizzi the name of the dog from Garfield?
  8. That seems like highway robbery to me. When I saw the headline, I immediately looked to see what prospects they gave up, assuming it would be a couple in the 15 range. Pretty amazed to see it be only Palacios. Makes me wonder how far off this board is in terms of guesses on an Archer offer.
  9. Remember when Kohl Stewart was a higher ranked and more highly regarded prospect than Gonsalves? That seems like a long time ago.
  10. Not sure, exactly, but I seem to feel more optimistic about the four guys behind him on this list: Rooker, Enlow, Badoo and Graterol.
  11. What if the Twins told the Rays “We’d like to offer you, in exchange for Archer, a package of Kepler and your choice of 3 of these 4 players: Graterol, Badoo, Enlow and Rooker.” Would you do that?
  12. That perhaps is because that offer would have needed to include playing in a different city?
  13. This is just a wild theory, but is it possible there was an unwritten agreement among owners not to sign any free agent starters or position players before the Hall of Fame vote? The goal would be to drive down prices, presumably.
  14. Which happens first, Yu signs or the government reopens?
  15. I see you added Reed to your calculations. Park requested out of his contract, so the Twins will not be paying him this year or next, according to this article: http://mengnews.joins.com/view.aspx?aid=3041292 Santana’s 2019 option vests with 400 IP between 2017 and 2018, including 200 in 2018. He pitched 211 in 2017, so if he gets 200 imthis year, it will vest. Since he turned 30, he has hit 200IP two out of five years. I’m guessing it’s 50-50 at best that option vests.
  16. I keep getting a different total than you for those six.
  17. This is a big surprise. It must have just fallen in their lap, with the Midwest thing. Is he married/wife from Midwest? Wade Davis signed for 17mm....per year! To get Addison Reed for two years for less than that total was brilliant. I don’t think the Twins are out on Darvish. This is a huge opportunity to land the top FA pitcher. No other big spenders are playin this year, and the Twins have a window of competitiveness opening up now, with lots of payroll wiggle room, especially starting in 2019. Add in the Levine connection, too. Honestly, I think the Twins are the favorite to sign Darvish, not out. I can’t believe I’m saying that, but I think it’s true.
  18. Funny, as I was reading though this thread, exactly 5/125 popped into my head as a likely deal for Darvish. That would be fantastic.
  19. I for one would like to see Yu Darvish pitch for the Twins in the World Series, but that’s just me. I would also like to see Yu Darvish and Chris Archer both in Twins’ uniforms this spring. I can’t believe the snails pace of the free agency this winter. Most of the relievers are gone (kind of over market price), but almost no other player (SP or position) has signed. They have to sign, right? Will prices come down?
  20. Phil Miller didn’t vote for Johan. God, I hope LaVelle does. Johan has 3 votes, and is at 2.2%. He really doesn’t deserve to get booted on the first ballot.
