  1. The umpire was bad in this game. Garver walked in the ninth, but after the Marwin hit, instead of two on, one out, there were two outs and one on. On the Dixon home run, he struck out on the previous pitch, but the ump called it a ball. That’s a big difference. There were several other missed calls. As for line-up construction, I understand why they are batting Buxton ninth (for confidence reasons), but I think as many at bats as possible for him will also be a confidence booster. I think he should start moving up in the lineup (none of Willians, Kepler, or Adrianza should have batted ahead of him against a lefty, for example). I’d like him ahead of some RBI options. And Garver should be starting as much as possible. He can DH if Cruz is going to miss time.
  2. It’s mindsets like this that result in Ron Gardenhire and Rick Anderson leading the Tigers. I’m glad Falvey and Levine zagged when most others zigged.
  3. When do we think it is safe to render a verdict on this?
  4. “The offense for the Kernels popped” Nicely played. Looking like Sano is ready for Rochester.
  5. Re-reading this thread, a lot of people hated this signing. Nicksaviking didn’t, and above was my take. The only thing I missed back on January 20 was that Wes Johnson might help him add some mph to his fastball....
  6. Twins first thirty games: 6-4 7-3 6-4. Keep on moving, next ten starts tomorrow. Forced them to use six innings of bullpen today. Not a great game, and bad umpiring, but shake it off and beat them tomorrow.
  7. Almost seems like Smeltzer (and Balozovic) need to be in the prospect lists at the bottom of teachers review.
  8. Sano moving up to Pensacola after two games, getting some time playing with Royce Lewis. Now on to spend some time with Kiriloff and Brusdar. While the Twins go 19-10. This is working out just fine.
  9. Now the Twins have a regular ol’ three game home series against the Astros. Take 2 of 3, and take the season series against them. Oh, and they miss Verlander in this series, and have Berrios lined up for the finale.
  10. Actually, I think Kiriloff continues to rake and surpasses Lewis this year.
  11. To me, they handled it perfectly. They put the worst pitcher in the toughest matchup of six games. They won 4 of the other 5, and predictably lost the mismatch. Stewart might not have been the best AAA option (Littel, Thorpe, or even Brusdar), that is certainly debatable. But I think they chose the right game to start a AAA pitcher.
  12. Kind of wondering if Balazovic need to start being listed as an honorable mention in the top 20 prospects listing at the bottom. He’ll be joining that list soon enough. And I guess it doesn’t really matter; he always seems to get listed as the pitcher of the day when he pitches anyway.
  13. Nice job, Matt. I particularly liked how you wrote about de Jong’s performance by skipping over it entirely. I also hope you mean it is only a matter of when, not if, Jake Reed gets the call to the Twins’ bullpen.
  14. This was some really exceptional analysis. I am awarding TwinkiePower a TPCV (TwinkiePower Column Value) a +7. You know, I am suspicious that at least Jack Morris, if not both Jack and Dick, are regular readers of TD. The other day I posted a long piece on Buxton’s stolen base streak, including info on his last caught stealing. Jack mentioned some details about that caught stealing in the next broadcast that I mentioned in the piece. Made me think he might read the site to get fodder for broadcasts. So anyway, I bet Dick hears about his “corners” in a broadcast soon!
  15. It is clear now that Tyler Austin was the sacrificial price the Twins had to pay for Buxton to return to action Friday night, rather than being out until June.
  16. If that’s what we have to worry about, I’m fine with that. Between Brusdar, Duran and Balazovic, there is some serious talent to keep tabs on. Fun.
  17. I think Arrieta served up the homer to Max because he was irritated that Buxton scored. And then Willians hit a pitch at his eyeballs 15 rows deep. The double play from Buxton to Willians was a thing of beauty all the way around. Those two guys are quickly becoming “must see TV” on both sides of the ball. My only problem with this game was that Pineda got charged with a run after exiting with a man on first base, doubling his ERA from 1 to 2. Such a dumb system. I think that inherited runs scored should be divvied proprionally to the exiting and incoming pitchers, .25 to the exiting pitcher / .75 to the incoming pitcher for a runner on first, .50 to a runner on second, etc. Thus Pineda should have a 1.25ERA, not 2.
  18. Non-concur. The man, the myth, la Tortuga. Wasn’t one of the TNMTs named Willians? (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Whatever he is, he is NOT just a human.
  19. And....Buxton is on the bench again today against the Phillies. There was an article several months ago about Jackie Bradley and how he has studied how to handle the wall. Seemed very savvy about it. To me, Buxton needs to start being more cautious around the wall. Period.
