  1. It wasn’t so much a “change of scenery” trade as a “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic” trade.
  2. You can say that again!
  3. Here’s a wild theory (no pun intended): Dunning knew the plan was to plunk Jeffers going into the game, and it messed with his head, which is why he had such unusual control problems early in the game.
  4. So, as long as he is on the 40-man roster by Sept 1, he is eligible for any post-season roster?
  5. August slash line: 378/506/636 (For reference, Jordan Luplow August: 200/300/343) Martin had a down year in 2022, but he OPSed 796 in 2021 in the minors and his OPS is up to 841 this year. He walks almost as much as he strikes out (25:27 this year), and he is stealing at an 83% success rate across his minor league career. I get that there is some complication with impending returns of Buxton and Castro, but Martin is on fire right now. Would love to see him join Julien and Wallner as another batter with good plate discipline on the roster. Call him up before the calendar turns to September!
  6. For some reason, Matt Wallner reminds me of AJ Pierzynski.
  7. CC sprinted over from SS while Polanco ran to second so that Correa could make that relay. Amazing play.
  8. But couldn’t they bring up Martin if first if they wanted him as a possible post-season option?
  9. THAT’S who the Twins needed to trade for at the deadline!
  10. I don’t think Julien, AK and Wallner are better at judging the zone because they have experience with ABS. They are simply better at judging the zone. It’s a skill, and that kind of discipline allows them to hit better, because they are only swinging at stuff they can make solid contact with.
  11. Is there any speculation they would trade for Lance?
  12. Wallner hit a single, not a double. He crushed that ball was too hard. Umpire had a lousy game. It’s a bad situation when everyone watching the game on tv, and the announcers, can see clearly how badly the ump is missing calls.
  13. My vote is Andrew Stevenson over Jordan Luplow on the Twins’ roster. (Even though he is a lefty.)
  14. If Correa catches that soft liner with the runner going, that’s a double play and they are out of the inning down 4-3. That hurt.
  15. Is it just me, or does Floro keep coming into close games and immediately gives up at least a run or runs?
  16. Pablo López scoreless innings streak: 19 innings Zac Gallen scoreless innings streak last year (12th all-time): 44.2 innings Orel Hersiser all-time scoreless innings streak: 59 innings Nearly 1/3 of the way there! Also: Pablo Lopez ERA: 3.51 Luiz Arraez BA: .361
  17. Great story on Darryl Strawberry. I was at the Saints game in 1996 (?) when he hit three homers. Nice to read about how playing with the Saints was a part of him redemption story. Good for him (and his wife) for getting on track.
  18. For not being a hater, you do a great impression! Melissa, great piece. Joe will be a Twins HOFer this weekend, and in the national HOF soon. Like Tony Gwynn, he is the face of the franchise.
  19. Kinda seems like the Twins’ trade acquisition was….Dylan Floro.
  20. Never mind…Pham to DBacks.
  21. Pham and Raley to the Twins for…Maeda, Gallo, and a lower tier prospect?
  22. He basically signed for the slot. Boras can say he got an over slot deal, I guess.
  23. My recollection is that the Twins had just moved to Target Field, and they thought it was going to be a pitcher’s park, and Gardy didn’t like having a SS who couldn’t steal bases and/or run fast on the team.
  24. This is what happens all of the time. While each pick comes with an assigned amount, 90% of picks sign under that amount, and especially near the top of the draft. Brooks Lee signed last year for less than slot. Noble Meyer got $1.5mm less than slot and the Marlins gave it all plus more to Thomas White. Paul Skenes signed for $500K less than slot (while getting the highest signing bonus ever). So, yes, I think it plausible that the Twins could sign Jenkins for $6.5mm, which is $600K less than the $7.1mm slot, and give that savings to another prep player they drafted. I don’t know if it will happen, but it’s entirely plausible, because that’s how the draft works with the fungible draft pools.
  25. I don’t think there is any concern that he’ll sign. He went top five and will get a check for $6mm+. It seems unlikely he would pass on that for a chance to…go #1 in three years? I think the fact that he hasn’t signed (only first rounder not to sign yet?) might actually be a good thing—it means that the Twins might still be working out a way to sign one of the two prep kids they drafted in the 19th/20th. I think there is a scenario where they can offer them upwards of $1.5mm, whichever takes it first gets it. If neither bites, Jenkins will get full slot. If one takes it, Jenkins will get something like $6.5mm.
