  1. Gibson looking pretty on today - he needs to assume the role of veteran innings eater on this club, assuming Ervin is dealt. I think he is fully capable of doing so.
  2. Did anybody ever fill Arcia's underwear with peanut butter? That is the crux of this comparison.
  3. I'm just glad after the recent cuts that Vargas is still here. Yeah, he's been hitting a ton since his recall, but he has always been a productive hitter on up the chain. Still only 25, and big time power. Park is hurt, so it is good to have a guy like this step in as DH/1B alt. Palka waiting in the wings. Joe is the one who doesn't fit the bill as a power corner infielder. Maybe with his arm he could move to the pen?
  4. I'm kind of glad to see Vargas take the spot of power bench bat. With Park out, he makes sense as a DH backup 1b. Oswaldo didn't really have a future in ths Twins outfield.
  5. He's also shrinking his pitch count. Last 2 starts, 7 and 9 innings pitched, 1 earned run, 3BB, 13K, less than 100 pitches each outing. Like that efficiency, and the K rate is still pretty dang good.
  6. Lamonte Wade is hitting .391 with a .966 OPS since his promotion to Fort Myers. Just 7 games, but he's done nothing to to disprove that he can flat out hit.
  7. He has been the best leadoff guy we've seen in a long while - hits stolen bases, the whole works.
  8. Last game he was 2 for 3 with no Ks and a walk. His outs haven't been putrid either. Progress.
  9. 2 observations: 1. Santana hasn't been totally sucky, unlike RN. He is a fully competent ML starter, capable of success in either league. 2. Throwing a 2 hit shutout in front of oppnents' scouts shows he knows how to ramp it up. Surely some pitching poor "contender" would take a flyer on him, with no salary retention from the Twins. Nolasco, not so much.
  10. Butera brough back an asset - hrrrumph!
  11. Perhaps the best collective effort from the future stars I can remember. Maybe we can be optimistic going forward, or am I getting ahead of myself here?
  12. The one game I saw in SF he hit a home run. He is a good hitting pitcher. Just looked, last season he hit .247, 5 HRs, ops of .743 in 77 ABs. 2014 he hit .258, 4HRs abd 15 RBIs, ops of .755 in 66 ABs.
  13. I thought the deadline for high schoolers used to be just before fall semester began.
  14. Sorry, not prepared to read through 16 pages to see if this has been posted yet. Does the PTBNL, if that is the avenue they choose to go, predetermined from a list of players at the trime of the trade, or can it go up or down depending on performance?
  15. If I was about to graduate from college, and someone said, "oh, here's 30K and a job playing baseball," I wouldn't feel ill-used.
  16. I think the front office is driven as much by marketing decisions as they are by baseball decisions. Trading Dozier and Plouffe might be good baseball decisions, but from a marketing perspective, you're losing two of the more popular players with the casual fan, which is why I doubt they are traded, especially Dozier. If they are actually helping you win games it becomes even more doubtful they are traded. Maybe Ryan will surprise us, but I'm not counting on it.
  17. Luckily, in baseball you can score gems outside the first few picks. None of Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner, Mike Trout, Andrew McCutcheon, or Chris Sale were drafted higher than 7th overall, and the latter 4 were all 11th or later. Rarely is the best player for a draft class the top pick. He got the tools and projectability that give him a pretty lofty ceiling.
  18. The Twins are sure to love his approach at the plate, taking what pitchers give him.
  19. Yes - if Hitinapinch is correct, they need to trust their stuff. Perhaps they also need a little trust from their coaches. Had Duffey gotten the usual bums rush after his start in Toronto last year we wouldn't care about him at this point. They need to promote those they believe in, and give them an honest chance to figure it out. One bad start and you are out is a horrible way to build the confidence of your rookie pitchers.
  20. Yeah, I've spent a fair amount of time in Arkansas - Fayetteville is like Austin, or Norman, or Tuscaloosa, a liberal college town in a dead red state.
  21. Well, crap - looks like it's time for a new avatar. I will miss Oswaldo - mismanaged asset to be sure. I really hope he doesn't end up on the White Sox or Tigers.
  22. Twins should try to find a NL team to take Milone. He could do well there.
  23. I'm old enough to remember when the Twins were Baseball America's organization of the year. Hard to find anything good of late, except picking up Nunez's option (which I would have declined). D'oh. there I go again shooting myself in the foot.
  24. Hmm, 3 years in Arkansas or more than quarter million dollars at 18. Damn, that's a tough one....
