  1. Frankly I'd just roll with Cron and Sano: younger, cheaper, and they both performed well when healthy last season. Put the money into pitching. If they don't think Cron's thumb will be the same, then I'd pursue Kendrick.
  2. Yet Minnesota always scores well on quality of life comparisons. I guess if you want to raise healthy well-educated children in an area with ample employment opportunities, AND make 7 figures a year, this isn't a bad place.
  3. Gotta say, watching that Larnach vid, he really is the professional hitter the announcers claim - uses the whole field, and has pop both ways as well.
  4. I would make a priority target of this guy, and it appears about 20 GMs agree. • Elite stuff • Great pitcher physique at 6'4", 195. • Not yet 30 • For his age he has a pretty fresh arm: he's only pitched 463 innings in the last there years, since his TJ operation, and only 749 in his hole MLB career. For comparison, Bumgarner, who is 9 months older, has thrown 1,846 ML innings. Assuming reports are right and there are 20 teams looking at him, that puts the Twins baseline % of getting him at 5%. An awful lot will have to go right to make it happen, but given the status of the Twins, slight optimism is warranted.
  5. Another guy generally included in out top 10 prospects seems like he should get his shot before Kiriloff: I'm talking Brent Rooker. Yeah, he whiffs a lot, but he mashes too, very much the modern ballplayer. He's actually a left fielder as well. Falvey and company even spent a supplementary 1st on him, so the idea of Kiriloff leapfrogging him in seniority AND position ... I don't think so. He did well with Team USA this fall to boot.
  6. If Kopech comes back healthy this year, they have quite a few very nice pieces going forward.
  7. This would be another sharp nail in MLB's eventual coffin imo - it is an not an excellent plan to cut off wide swaths of Americans interest in baseball because they live in Montana, or Tennessee, etc. Coupled with the owners' acceptance of declining attendance at games because of other revenue streams, all it will take is a slight economic downturn for the dominoes to start tumbling. We've seen the unthinkable with banks, airlines, the auto industry: baseball is infinitely less likely to get a bailout when times get tough. Shortsighted.
  8. The Astros deserve zero credit for what Cole has achieved - #1 overall, he was a stud when they got him who was maturing into his prime. Now the acquisition part ....
  9. I like your "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach to most of the team. Fun read. Keuchel Hamels would be very good if it happened.
  10. Interesting Jeremy. I'll pick a couple nits though. Between Rosario, Cron, and Castro, that's 70 bombas going out the door. The pitching would be better, but that's a lot of offense to dump at once. IMO Brent Rooker is much more MLB ready than Kiriloff at this point.
  11. If only it was as easy as walking into Pitchers R Us and picking what you want. Free agency is more akin to Black Friday at Walmart, with a real possibility of getting nothing but trampled.
  12. I see Rijo as a guy who would be easy to grab and stash in the pen, especially for a team with no hopes of competing, like Detroit. Came away very impressed when I saw him in Cedar Rapids. Hope they add him.
  13. Are there any front offices that haven't yet embraced advanced stats? Because Eddie's baseball card stats, the kind I grew up on, are outstanding: 32 HR, 109 RBI, .500 slugging. I do think it would create a hole in the lineup to get rid of him; it's already pretty heavy on right handed batters, and he routinely delivers big hits. Oh, and the swagger is real.
  14. Very happy for Washington, who gave us the Twins. I actually saw a game there this summer - good park and good fans. Also happy for Suzuki and particularly Dozier. Wow, guy gets traded by the Twins and gets an NL Championship and a World Series loss, then a WS ring. He had the Moonlight Graham line in this series. 1 plate appearance, a walk.
  15. Remember you well Travis. One thing I always thought, for you to corroborate or debunk: former professional baseball player looks good on a resume outside of baseball world. True or false?
  16. On the other hand, 47 out of 60 1st round and supplemental 1st rounders from 2012 have a lower career WAR than 12th rounder Taylor Rogers, including picks 5-10 overall. Works both ways. Sure, the Twins aren't perfect, but neither are the other teams. And if you wanna pick on Gordon, how about #1 and #2 from that draft, Brady Aiken and Tyler Kopek? At least Gordon will likely make the majors, whereas neither of those guys made it past A ball.
  17. For someone whose defense gets no love, I saw him scoop tons of errant throws from the left side of the infield,: he saved those guys a ton of errors.
  18. Not sure a leg bruise from a hit by pitch counts as falling apart. He ended July on a tear, and then his season was pretty much done. He hit .323 over his last 15 games. Marwin and Ehire are short term players, both into their 30s. Having some young, quality depth in the upper minors is not a bad thing.
  19. Waaaah! Love TC Bear. Poor creature has no teeth.
  20. BTW, Lewis is hitting .407 down there (1st for more than 7 ABs), has 3 hr (leaders have 4), 14 RBI ties for 3rd, OPS 1.163 is good for 3rd for guys with more than 4 ABs. The other big stat guy this year is Greg Deichmann, a RF who interestingly was a Twins 26th round draft pick in 2016, who went back to be a senior at LSU and moved up to the 2nd round with Oakland, 4 years older than Lewis. Nice to be MVP for a game, better for a season. BTW II, Lewis is 2.1 years below the average age of his competition down there.
  21. I've taken my share of rebuffs from the mods with a stiff upper lip, cuz you all are good @##$^s.
  22. What they need is the equivalent of what Cruz was to the offense: a leader. Berrios, for all his quality, hasn't gotten there yet. Maybe next year he will. Odorizzi is close to that: we can make a QO, correct? Morris, Viola, every winner needs a gamer like that to lead them in the post-season.Having a deputy riding shotgun doesn't hurt either, i.e. Blyleven, Tapani/Erickson. If they could get someone */bumgarner/* to allow Berrios to slide into that #2 slot, they would be a threat. If they can keep Odo, and Big Mike, then is a pretty good start. The Twins have the pitchers to get to the post season - what's missing is the stud who can win there.
  23. Well they seemed to get the offense in order in a pretty short time, rather, to a record breaking level of awesomeness. Perhaps a bit of luck involved, but they targeted guys poised for a bounce back, or picked up some nice bargains, while riding the young core and getting the right guys to have good chemistry, manager included. None of these guys were hot ticket items. What hot-ticket pitcher would have chosen the Twins last year? Yah sure money speaks, but these guys know they are in this game for only a short while, and I'd wager that for the elite arms, the chance to win trumps money all day, especially given the amount of money they command. Minnesota looks a lot more attractive to top arms this off-season than it has in a while.
  24. Falvine are no dummies - they watched their 101 win team swept aside like a toy in the ALDS. They've moved methodically, and improved this team and its long term future along the way. This is crunch time, and I have faith they will address it. Man the sky is all kinds of blue today!
