That's great news to me, even if they're unable to sign him.

Article: 2017: The Year In Debuts
Danchat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's kind of hard to place where Pressly and Duffey are in the bullpen. Pressly had a disappointing season but had stretches of total dominance, and I think he deserves another shot. Duffey was even worse and many of those appearances were in low leverage situations. Right now, I see the bullpen as: Rodney Hildenberger Rogers Duke Pressly Busenitz Hughes/Enns/Duffey/Moya/Anyone but Kinley [potential 8th reliever] If Hughes is healthy, he gets a roster spot solely because of his salary. I kinda see Duffey as the odd man out, as he's been a poor pitcher these past two seasons. Kinley has no business being in the majors in 2018. I can see Moya or Curtiss being the first call-ups. As a random side note, I'd really like to see the Twins re-sign Dillon Gee and utilize him as a long reliever again. He did a fantastic job in that role and he could be a spot starter too. Much better than keeping Hughes around.- 21 replies

Hopefully Busenitz and Hildenberger can continue their good rookie seasons and parlay that into even better sophomore seasons, and later on Curtiss and Moya can find their way up and stay up. With other guys like Jay, Reed, and Chargois possibly pushing for the majors, the bullpen could be filled with some young guns.- 21 replies

They had better not sell low on Sano, as he's got superstar potential. If the Twins can get some great pitching for Sano, then I'd definitely consider it... but I'd rather wait another season and see what happens with Sano health-wise and see how he hits.

Darren Wolfson is reporting it'll be between $1.5M - $2M. He'll likely be taking Buddy Boshers' roster spot. I want to like the Levine/Falvey combo, but it's been a bit underwhelming thus far. I'll give them some credit - they're at least trying to sign the best FA starter, which is not something you could say for TR or Bill Smith. Just kinda wish they could have gotten somebody like Steve Cishek (2 years $12M) in over Duke and Rodney.

Article: What Do The Twins See In Tyler Kinley?
Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is what I'm thinking will happen - they're going to trade an insignificant player away to keep Kinley in the minors. Keeping Kinley on the 25 man roster makes no sense and he's not close to ready to face MLB hitters. -
Agreed, I've just gotten tired of waiting for Burdi and it seems like his career is going to be plagued by injuries. He's kinda going the route of Alex Meyer - has great stuff, can strike people out at a high clip, but can't get healthy. The front office gave up on both though they did acquire something for Meyer. I don't like the shift from Burdi and Kinley, though. Kinley will be 27 and struggled against AA batters.

Article: Twins Sign Closer Rodney To One-Year Deal
Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah.... this is an OK signing. I wouldn't want Rodney to close games as his walk rate is infuriating and he has a tendency to blow saves frequently. His FIP (3.03) and WHIP (1.19) were very good last year, and he still got Ks (10.6 per 9) even at age 40. He just seems to have wild streaks of incredible dominance (San Diego 2016 - 0.31 ERA & 0.87 WHIP) and incredible ineptitude (Miami 2016: 5.89 ERA, 1.8 WHIP, 6.1 BB/9). I'm fine with giving him $4.5M for one season, but I'd like one more reliever. I think they're going to do it - I'm not going to fall into this "Falvey and Levine are Terry Ryan 2.0!" mentality. Sure, the offseason hasn't been full of splashy moves thus far for the Twins, but this isn't going to be the final signing. -
Hmmm... an interesting move. Kinley's going to be 27 and he's gone from AAA in 2016 to AA and down to A+ in 2017. Sure, he gets strikeouts like nobody's business, but he looks like a career minor leaguer with no success above A+. He's an older, healthier, and less effective version of Nick Burdi. He has no business being on the Twins major league roster, wasting a spot in the bullpen for far more effective pitchers. It'd be fine with the move if it involves acquiring his full rights and trading somebody insignificant to the Marlins and stashing him in the minors. So far, can't say I'm a fan of the new regime's rule V picks. Most of the time these picks never amount to anything, so it really doesn't matter very much.

Article: Twins Sign RHP Michael Pineda
Danchat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like this move. It's all contingent on Pineda recovering, but if he does, he brings some badly needed strikeout ability in the rotation and, as mentioned earlier, getting out of Yankee Stadium should do his HR/9 wonders. There's still plenty to be done for 2018, of course. I've heard the Twins are targeting Steve Cishek, and that'd be a great signing if it happened. -
Article: Winter Meetings: Reliever Roulette
Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here's hoping they add a reliever who's at least better than Fernando Rodney. I'll pass on him, we've had enough with older relievers with volatile performances. Most of the other names would suffice, though I think they should focus on finding a guy for the 9th inning. -
Let's worry about the Mauer situation once the 2018 season is over. He's not going to run off elsewhere in FA for big bucks. I think Rooker will be the future 1B and we'll see where his progress is at by that point. He's still a below-average offensive 1B and he could decline further in the future, so that's why I'd rather play the situation on a year-by-year deal instead of giving him a 4 year extension.

Article: The Impending Rochester Rotation Crunch
Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Whoops, I had forgotten about how the Twins had tendered all their RFAs, so Gibson's under contract. I don't imagine they'd get much in a trade but it could be worthwhile. I wanted to believe this guy could be a #3 pitcher, but his performances are just so frustrating, fluctuating between a legit starter and pumpkin over the 2017 season.- 102 replies

Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Enns looks like a bullpen arm to me. The rest of the logjam will fade when injuries hit, not worried about that. I expect the Twins to add one starter, but I’d really like to see 2 and have Gibson non tendered.- 102 replies

The first surgery partially removed one of his ribs, and the second surgery removed the rest of that same rib. -
Article: Can Phil Hughes Surprise Us?
Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I see Hughes as a guy who'll have to pitch his butt off to make the team in 2018. He was terrible last season and after more surgery, I don't see any reason for optimism. Hopefully the FO is willing to let him go if it's clear he's going to be a liability. -

Article: The Twins Should Be Shopping Ervin Santana
Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would be OK with a Santana trade if: 1 - The return is good and the Twins get player(s) that can contribute within the next year or so. 2 - The rotation has been filled with new/better options, not having Gibson and May/Gonsalves penciled in 3 - The FO is convinced Santana is going to regress harshly The chances that all three of these combine is very unlikely, so I don't see a trade happening. But I could very well see Santana regress big time and post a 5.00+ ERA in 2018. Hopefully this doesn't happen and Santana can be a solid #2/3 starter as they push for the playoffs again in 2018. -

Danchat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was very confident in early 2016 that Park was going to pan out... it wasn't quite like the Nishioka experiment in its glorious and colossal failure, but it was once again another blemish on TR's record. Hopefully the Twins will recoup that $6.5M they owe him. -
Article: Twins Add Three Players To 40 Man Roster
Danchat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I find it fascinating how different some people's opinions on Diaz are. Some are absolutely sure that he'll get claimed and stashed because he's such a good prospect and many believe that nobody will want to keep a single A 1B who didn't even hit that well in 2017 on the roster.- 127 replies

Article: Twins Add Three Players To 40 Man Roster
Danchat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting, I was expecting more names to get added. I think the three names added are good adds. I think the guys left off the list will be fine - I think we tend to overreact about losing our own guys. Maybe one of them will get claimed (maybe Reed or Bard?) but I don't think it's anything to worry about.- 127 replies

Article: What's Next For Kennys Vargas?
Danchat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they can find a better DH option in free agency, I would approve and they could move on from Vargas. But if they can't find a deal they like, I think they could try Vargas for one more season and see if things work out. It's just so frustrating how he bounces between a good hitter and one who whiffs every other pitch.
