  1. Really interesting piece. Molitor was a savant at figuring out tells from the dugout. Certainly technology has to have taken this to a whole new level. In Morris case, the three fastball variations he throws the most don’t require much of a hand change so that probably is not it. My guess is he has gotten too predictable and batters are just waiting on a certain pitch in a certain location. As noted above, young players usually go through this as the league makes adjustments after the video guys have enough tape on them. If they can adjust, they make it. If they can’t they will be out of the league.
  2. It’s a variation of Ferme’s (Linus) Paradox. There is no credible evidence of life within most of these left handed hitting outfielders but there are just so darn many of them someone out there one of them has to be good.
  3. I think that is wise. I’m not trying to be an obnoxious but, for me, the quality of the writing doesn’t merit significant payment. If there was a tier that was more “donation” level I would do that just to have access to the user posts and comments.
  4. I generally like the site. My only technical complaint is that when scrolling the ads throw you to a different part of the page which is annoying. To really improve the site would require better writing. Less hyperbole and click bait articles and more in depth articles. I would rather have fewer more in depth articles than higher quantity of surface level writing.
  5. Raise your hand if you think the Twins made a credible offer. I don’t.
  6. Whatever year it was when Josh Willingham was in LF and Hunter was in RF and some defensive metric rated Willingham as the better defender. It was a joke.
  7. I e got a simpler way to state your argument. They are wedging in Caratini at first base against lefties. It’s ridiculous.
  8. Taj is close to being an elite pitcher. He just needs to be a little more efficient with his pitches. Defense was not good. Keaschall lets a catchable ball drop and then overthrows the cutoff man, which he has done multiple times in the last week. Kreidler three hopped a relay throw from behind second base - a good throw and the runner is out. His supposed elite defense is overblown in my book and he can’t hit a lick. Buck has to go on the IL - he is a shadow of himself.
  9. I’m with Doc. The Twins need difference makers wherever we can find them. If one of them is available at DH then do it. Otherwise leave it open. Josh Bell is a slightly above average hitter - that’s fine if you are a slick fielding second baseman - DH, not so much
  10. Completely disagree. It shouldn’t matter at all if they make or miss the playoffs - making it or not making it doesn’t change who they are as a team. They are in transition and if anything this silly pretending we are something more will just delay the progress that needs to be made.
  11. We just need better hitters period. I don’t care which box they stand in. A lot of talk about running the same guys back next year - I don’t get it. We are a below 500 club for a while now. We need better players not more Larnach, Martin and Bell. I want a legit middle of the order bat or two. For that matter that bat can be at first or third as well.
  12. I thought there was a distinct possibility that someone on the other side of the Red River might have an opinion on this topic 😀. I believe for #5 you mean left handed pitching.
  13. I reject the notion that prior to analytics baseball people were blind to player performance. The reason why the list is surprising is that defensive metrics are unreliable. I like the concept however - it’s an interesting balance. Or as Casey Stengel once said “I don’t like those guys that drive in three and let in two”. I think Luke could be passable in LF where his speed could be an asset. He’s never going to throw particularly well because he has really poor throwing mechanics.
  14. I guess it depends on how picky we want to be. Falvey put together good pitching staffs but more from trades than drafting and developing. Part of this is due to his early philosophy of not using high draft picks on pitchers. The advantage of developing home grown talent is it’s free - you don’t have to trade anything for it. Due to this draft drought they didn’t have much to show for a long time. Recent drafts have been better and the good prospects were higher picks. I also think that, while it’s valid to question development, it’s also pretty clear they really helped Ryan and Lopez thrive even though they traded for them.
  15. The play in the hole last night was fun. KC went in the hole smoothly, backhanded the ball perfectly and threw an absolute laser to first. That dude has a rocket.
  16. This was tough. 32 games left and the Twins need to win at least 20. can’t let games like this slip away.
  17. He’s fine but I believe there must be something like a familiarity bias. We get comfortable with players and start valuing them inordinately. He’s a league average bat, maybe a little better, that’s it.
  18. Regression is a bitch. It’s difficult to be really good for 162. The guys that can do it make a lot of money.
  19. People kind of overlook that Prielipp has had control issues his entire career (I think his whip was 1.5 last year in AAA). This is who he is at this point - good stuff but will struggle to locate his pitches. Since he has relatively few innings pitched we can hope that he will improve his control going forward
  20. Sorry. My response was saltier than needed. I do think the last 6 weeks will be critical information for making decisions this off season
  21. My suggestion would be to enjoy the rest of this season at least as long as they are in it. We have all winter to argue about roster construction
  22. Love the arm and that he takes a hack at the plate - he’s the anti Lee in that regard. I would like to caution everyone that has Houston penciled in at SS next year. He needs to finish this year strong, hit in AAA and finally the bigs. I’m hopeful but it is far from given.
