I believe Tom Kelly came up with a similar system to analyze a hitter’s effectiveness. I wish I could remember the details but it was pretty simple as it was done manually but quite effective. It had something to do with the hitter advancing himself or others without making outs. It may not have been TK it might have been Mauch.
I like Caratini as a catcher. I dislike Caratini as a first baseman or DH. Obvious opportunities to improve the lineup at first, DH and left field are just not pursued by this club.
The talent is there - I don’t think anybody would argue with that. He’s now throwing enough quality strikes to really turn the tables. Hopefully he keeps it up as he has the potential to be pretty dominant.
Correct in my view. First of all it’s normal for prospects to fail, even good ones. But when you look back on some of the draft selections the Twins have made, their overall physical abilities appear to have been more limited.
It will be interesting to see if that aspect of roster construction will change under Zoll. If it was Falvey, Roden would be cooling his heels in St Paul for a while.
In thinking about the start of the season I thought of a couple bright spots.
1 Austin Martin is getting on base. His OBP is .615.
2 Jeffers appears very adept using the ABS challenge (other than the one he missed last night that could have got Ryan out of that jam).
Feel free to add on any others. And yes everyone understands the sample size.
I understand your point. This team has plenty of problems beside Larnach. For me the frustration is the Twins had obvious opportunities to improve the roster at first base, DH and left field. They did nothing. So I think This frustration is displayed by some posters as harsh criticism of Larnach. For me I don’t want Bell or Larnach on the roster nor do I want Caratini playing first or Clemens starting- I want better players but the Twins just keep fiddling around. For some Larnach represents that fiddling around and it frustrates them.
I had actually forgotten about Leopoldo being a minority owner. What I don’t know about marketing would fill Target Field but the Wild have a positive public persona and have connected with fans. As Cris E points out above, the Pohlads basically just BS their fans and assume they don’t know any better.
The attendance question is a tough nut to crack. Mainly because it’s been brewing for a while and is probably the result of a bunch of different things. For sure winning baseball would help but something else is needed. They ought to call the Wild - they seemed to have tapped into something.
Many people are concerned about Lees eventual position. If he hits, they will find a spot for him. But if he keeps hitting like this he simply won’t be in the big leagues.
I don’t think anything has changed. His stuff is tantalizingly. The question is can he locate it effectively which has always been the question. At first I wasn’t sure about this deal because there is definite risk they he never figures out his control but if he does, the upside is huge.
They actually shouldn’t have him on the roster much less playing in the field. First base, DH and left field were three golden opportunities for the Twins to remake the roster and they simply didn’t do it.
