    That would make sense. Fingers crossed it facilitates a trade for a good starter.

    Has MLB stated when the amount will be determined and when the clubs will be notified? If they don’t specifics before the deadline it won’t do much good for this year.

    I think you are spot on. Martin and Julien in particular are contributing next to nothing and should be optioned to see if they can gain some confidence with the bat. I predicted some strong regression for Julien as his babip last year was not sustainable and his unique approach was certainly going to be adjusted to but the guy has just cratered. I would give Lee a little more run but he has to get a few hits somewhere along the line. I think the chances of Farmer or Margot getting cut are almost nil.

    Because he can get the qualifying offer the return will have to exceed that value. That would be something like Keaschall or better. That’s a lot for 10 starts. The time to add a starter was last winter and the Twins made a mess of that.

    Correct. We will know after it happens. At that point we judge them by their actions and not their words.

    Nope. I’m not his biggest fan but I feel bad for him. He’s really struggling - he probably needs to go back to St Paul to see if can gain some confidence.

    Yea Lee hasn’t been lighting it up but at least has a chance and can play a couple positions.

    I’m not arguing because I haven’t followed him closely. Didn’t he take this contract because he couldn’t get a long term deal last year? He has been hurt this year and a little up and down so I wouldn’t think things would change that much from a contract standpoint but I could easily be wrong as free agency can be funny. I’m still highly doubtful the Twins would take that chance. Which isn’t an endorsement on my part just my assessment of the payroll situation.

    Interesting. Do you say that because he will try to land a long term deal or he thinks he can get more than $30 million next year?

    He’s not gonna pass on the $30 million option next year right? I highly doubt the Twins will have an appetite for that.

    Here’s the thing. It seems the focus on Paddack relates to injury concerns which are true. My take is the guy isn’t that good. He is not the kind of starter that you wait around for because the production is worth the wait. Go get a starter and worry about Paddack later.

    I’m on the fence on this one. I think enough other teams are going to be interested that some team will give a decent prospect for him. Think Tanner Schobel level. I don’t like the walks and the injury history but if we get another injury to a starter it might mean missing the playoffs. And no I don’t think Varland or Festa are the answer now. So if I’m Falvey and I know I’m going after a better starter then I pass. If not I’m calling the Dodgers.
